with regular cams, how is that true. the torque rating is the same, but at 300 or 400 rpms higher. i know my 5.2 gets peak torque at 3200 rpms. someone clarify this....

jayb - to clarify, the 4.7 makes almost as much power as the 5.2 at low rpms; and much better power at the higher rpms.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

I have never driven a 4.7, but I know that my 318 seems to kind of take off more towards the top end than the low then. About 3rd gear is when it starts to run.
One thing you have to take into thought when compairing these two engines is the difference in years. New tech. comes out every year allowing engine builders to add more power. Its not really fair to compair an engine built around 95 to an engine built today.

Although they still MAKE the 350 I believe. And the newer 4.8/5.3/6.0 all seem to be built off the similar design granted the intake design is different, etc but still same small block pattern where our new V8's are very disimilar to the 5.2/5.9, etc.

What the fukk is a Serria? Is that some Korean made truck GM is importing? Or is that some kind of STD that's a combination between syphillis and ghonerhia?

Hope you got a good deal on it considering GM is pretty much tossing money down the drain. Anyone want the employee discount?

I just took advantage of the "employee discount" and got a $36K Sierra for $26K. LESS than I paid for my Dakota QC 5 years ago! Really the savings was only about $1500. more from what I almost paid a year/half ago for a Sierra after some dickering. It was perfect timing.....My Dakota fell apart (actually I think it was falling apart since it left the assembly line!) right when GM started their sale. Since I've had a good history with GMC, and not so good with Dodge, the choice to fix or get rid of was clear.

Oh, and with the new all alluminum 310HP 5.3, it beats the pants off of my Dakotas 4.7L. Even with the extra size, weight and 3.42 gears.
