Jay,

NO offense, but I'm siding with Kowalski on this one.

My 01, 4.7, yadda, yadda, IS trouble free. I don't know if you have been in a 4.7 Dak much. More low end grunt, from the 5.2?

Oh yea, and JOe, just how much extra do you think you're getting from your SuperChip 4.7?
Yes I have one, I've accurately dynoed it also.

I'm using part #3715 and I think its should be about 45 HP at the and more than 40ftbls toruqe.

I might even by a chip for my GMC.

MY REPLY ----- yea - it's a diesel turbo and it's got a better resell and repair record than my dakota

why doesn't dodge put out a small diesel turbo?????

Tonight I was driving home in my work vehicle. It's got the 6.0 Vortech.
Some guy in a Silverado was halling a$$ so I followed along side him. When he took off from a stop so did I. I actually had to let OFF from passing him! He probably has a 5.0 or 5.7 vortech.
At the stop signs he punched it. Got me for a about 100 ft then the top end of the 6.0 really pulls form 30 and up. My work van wanted to pass him by 50 MPH.
What's funny is he's in a ext cab 1/2 ton, I'm driving a 1 TON van loaded with tools and parts!
The new vortechs would be FUN in a Camero with 4.10 gears. But they are kind of lagging from a dead stop in these trucks and vans.
My Dakota rips right from the get go, But doesn't rip a$$ from 3k RPM's and up like the Vortech does. must be different tuning (of the intake tract) and cams or something.
I still think the 4.7 is a better engine when towing than the 4.8. I drove one of them for a while too. No low end at all in the 4.8/6.0. But the upper RPM BOOST feeling is kind of cool once you get going.

I was talking about power from the not the wheels..

Also.. your right GraphiteDAk

From 500-2000 revs I can fell a bit more power comming out from my dakota without the chip.. But thats about it when the power in my GMC really takes on.. I think they both have flat toruqe curves.

Super bee..

I think Dodge might have option for half ton trucks.. I remember reading an artical from Trucktrend about a test near the Chrysler proven grounds somewhere up in michagan.. They tested out a 5.5L V8 Cummins turbo diesal (experimental)and one powerd by a smaller 4.0L I6 version.

Also theres plans for a baby Duramax diesal for the 1500 series Silverado/Serria truck line up..

@Joe.C

tell me out you got going to the wheels whenever you put it to the dyno.

Also a superchip could really add some better towing power for your GMC.. Actuely the 4.8L can put out some pretty good toruqe numbers with the right type of tools.

What I ment was..... Powerform the shaft not the rear wheels.. I surpose that what you thought I was refering to.

I'm sure its about 45 more hp to the along with a 30%increase in toruqe..

I can understand what you saying about the very bullet proof I6 Cummins B motor.. But For a 1500 series truck it would be a better idea to save some weight. Also you can do that with even a larger displacement engine.. I subscribe to the magazine that STS was talking about.. I think read that it was either a 5.8L V8 Cummins or a smaller detroit engine..

@STS

Yes, I'm sure that I could sqeeze out some good numbers on the dyno with my Vortech 4800. Its already got the HP advantage over my 4.7L mopar but its just needs some lowend grunt.

a detroit is not a good truck engine. it lasts forever, but you need to peg the rpm's to get any balls out of it.

I know thats right.. Even with the popular 12.7L diesal you have to all ways rev it up when pulling a half loaded 48FT trailor.. also Fightliners are not good trucks.. Volvo is the way to go.

1)the Cummins engine is not a truck engine, the cummins 5.9 is an engine built for basicly ANYTHING
its not a "dodge truck engine" so its adaptable to almost anything

2)no it would not be a good idea to put a 1000 lbs cummins 5.9 I-6 into a half ton truck IMO

3) a V8 Cummins, they have made them before, we have one where i work, it is not in a truck anyway, its not even mobile, its the backup fire sprinkler pump incase the electrical one is non-operational, that thing is LOUD and puts out some SERIOUS tourque, granted it was made in the 70's (78 i think, mfg. in England) i think the thing said 180 hp@3000 rpm, but like 1700 ft/lbs of tourque, it must take alot of tourque to move 1000+ gpm :)

4) i have always been partial to the looks and performance of a Peterbuilt truck, they look FABULOUS and i beleive they have a CAT I-6, maybe I-8, but im not totaly sure, i think I-6. They are my favorite truck out of frieghtliner/volvo/any other truck

Joe,

When I did the math, using an 18% loss, (manual tranny), I think I was something like 267hp, and 366ft lbs of torque, at the crank. That's with a few other mods, mainly HO cams and intake, no belt driven fan,..I did not use any sort belts to bypass things like a/c, alternator, etc.

My post with my graphs is gone, I guess b/c someone wanted server space or something, they did it for me, I e=mailed it to them.

With no s/c's, reg gas, 3.55 rear end, 4th gear on the manual, I was 218RWHP.

You know the RAm 1500 is already a heavy dog to begin with.. So why add more weight.. Also I think it was a 5.8L (352cid?) V8 Diesal that Dodge was testing also with other diesal manufactors like Detroit..

SuperBee,

Yes I've seen some of the Marine motors you talking about.. Also there are some yatchs near by with a 7 litre V8 Cummins engines.. And they do smoke.

WEll Superbee, yours must be fully loaded with everything including a bathtub.. I think the PowerRam tips the scales at about 6500 pounds.

So,

Thats the reason why I took a trip to my GM dealer and bought a Seirra that tips the scales at 4700lbs. And my Dakota QC 4x4 tips the scales at about 4800 lbs.

@ texas tod.

Yes, I added some bolt-ons myself like a Magnaflow exuast system-and tubular headers. And just like you ;no belt driven fan me either. Mine is a 02 modle... Also I got 3.92 gears,NV 3500HD transmission. So I guess there would be more power to the wheels for me than just 218Hp... and diffently higher toruqe ratings with those 3.92's.

Yes the chip really makes a diffence as soon as I poped it in.

So with all that I'm guessing from the - 290HP/350ftlbs TQ.
