For only $27,700, you can own a Honda RT (really!). It looks like Honda followed the concept of the Ford Explorer/Sportrack with the Pilot/Ridgeline: just hack the roof and walls off behind the doors. If the bed ain't separate, don't call it a PICKUP...

My entire point.

It isn't a truck.

hmmm, I've done some mods, but don't recall how much over stock, if any i may sit right now. As I've added some mods, I've also added more WEIGHT!
Right now I've always got the truck box with gear in it INCLUDING a large deep cycle battery to run my two amps and computer stuff.
The 2 inch lift may not have helped but seems to be no different other than that I can really haul some a$$ through most dips and speed bumps now.

I need some 4.10 gears to take advantage of what I've done.
Got to wait until summer to spend any more on my truck. and right now my wife is expecting me to do a few other things with $$$ this summer.
Why do wive's have to RUIN things for us???

Chevy 5.7 vs Dakota stock. Chevy 210 Hp, 310Torque, Dakota 235hp (Actual about 250), 295 torque. With a 3.92 rearend mine pulls much better and more stable than the 350 did. My Chevy weighed 5800lbs vs 4000 for the Dakota too. You couldn't stop that sucker either. It'd slide all over the place too. I hated the brakes and they were antilocks.

Your truck weighs more than 4000 doesn't it?
I think my QC 4X4 is supposed to be over 4500 Lbs.

So what's with the Dakota HP rating when you say more like 250. Do you think they should have rated it better especially after changing the TB and intake after the first 2 years?

The guys that have posted Dyno's here show 200 plus RWHP. That yeilds about 250 at the crank. Yours is probably much higher than that with your mods. Ya, I do believe they're underrated too. Origially to sell 5.9's in the RT and Rams. The O3 and up have the better intake and some other things too as I recall, yet they never changed the ratings. KRC noted RWHP for the 2000 4.7's stock at around 180 RWHP, so the recent Dyno's guys have posted indicate a 20HP pickup since then. Texas Todd was showing around 219RWGO set up about like yours. It doesn't much matter to me. It'll pull the hell out of both my trailers and goes quick when push the little peddle on the floor.

Mines a RC not a quad. You add about 400 lbs worth of cab and length between yours and mine. By the way, I talked with a body guy about frames and strength. He swore the Dakota had a stronger frame than the big rams. Made me feel better about towing bigger stuff.

Well, I do a lot of whitewater rafting. Moderate to-heavy payloads, sometimes towing a trailer, sometimes gnarly roads. I bought a '97 Dakota CC because I thought it was the right size and it had a V8 for the power I needed (when I needed it). It was.

I just got an '05 Club Cab about a month ago. Lookswise, not as elegant as the Gen II/III, but an acquired taste I'm starting to like. I see a few around town, another guy at my work as an '05 Quad.

Basically, I got a truck because I needed a full sized bed, V8 power and the ability to tow/haul my stuff over bumpy dirt roads, and didn't really need a fullsize. Pretty simple, the Dakota is STILL the right solution to those simple requirements, and the Ridgeline/Sport-Trac type vehicles just aren't.

My only other possibility was a Frontier, but they're expensive, no V8 and from what I hear, have more than their share of problems.

the truck I had before my 01 QC 4x4 4.7 was a 98 reg cab short bed z71 5spd with a 350. That truck would spank my little Dakota any day. That was a real truck compared to my toy truck body sitting on a car chasis I have now. I bought the Dak purely for its looks-about the only thing it has going for it.

That's pretty damn cool if true.

I've taken my Dak up some steep and rocky hills balls to the wall and through creek crossings and have the videos to prove it. Most people say straight out they wouldn't drive their trucks like I was in them videos. That frame does seem tough. I no longer do that sh*t to my Dak though because I'm sure no matter who's name is on the tailgate, it can still be broken!

I still need some gears for my Dak to compliment my mods. But it still does good for how it sits.

You should have seen my K&N air filters i cleaned yesterday. Holy Sh*t I had no idea they were so clogged with dirt and off-road grime!I'll post pics in another thread to not change the subject here! Check it out.

I was only using a figure of speech when I said it was a car chassis. (is that spelling better blakels?). I never said that the truck had a unibody, where did that assumption come from? I just meant that it is too light duty for my taste to be called a truck and might as well be a four door car. The use of a truck is measured differently by different people. I prefer a truck to have power and durability in heavy every day use. If I am showing ignorance according to Scott1981, then ask your buddy to chain your two trucks up and see which one drags to other one all over the road. No comparison between full size and mid size. If you are comparing quarter mile times or how fast a truck is, then naturally a smaller lighter truck is going to have the advantage. The Dakota is the weakest (truck?) I've ever owned and am sorry that I sold my real truck.

I can't use a full size truck in the turn around area in my barn plus the Dakota handles and drives so much better than a full size. There really isn't much comparison. It is my full time farm vehicle not a city oommuter. Most 1500 short beds won't haul 1850lbs in the bed and the tow capacity is only marginally greater. THe only reason I'd get a big truck would be for heavy towing ON A REGULAR BASIS(over 10000lbs). 99% of the time a big truck is just a pain. I pull a three horse trailer and a 16'flat bed frequently hauling horses and hay up to the 8 to 10k lb range (short haul). As a all around utility vehical the Dakota is great for 55000 trouble free miles so far.

You bought a midsize truck for its looks, and then complain its less powerful than a fullsize?
