Yes Greg the 5% variance and 4.13's is because of the smaller tire See the below.

Just something to break up the bland 4.7L color.

Here is a picture from about 5 minute ago of the Instrument Cluster with the trip Mileage (I reset ever fuel up) and the gas gage. I know you will try to find a way to claim BullSh!t on it, but it isn't. I will do the math for you right quick 'cause I don't want you to hurt yourself.

Fuel tank 22 gallons minus the almost, but not quite 3/8ths of a tank 8.25 gallons equals 13.75 still in tank. The number for our concern is the 8.25 Gallons

the mileage on the trip is 167.2 minus the 5% Speedo variance (because of the Shorter tires) of 8.36 equals 158.84. The number here of our concern is 158.84.

So 158.84 miles divided by fuel used (approximate) 8.25 Gallons equals 19.2533 all mileage so far this tank is City. On the High end of Normal, but the temps haven't gotten above 76 degrees here for the past few days, which helps my City Mileage.

Nope not on front also, I was running the BFG 265/50-16s until the bead broke on one and I couldn't get a replacement for 2 months, so I went to the Bridgestone Potenza 225/60-16s. Same height as the 265/50-16s (26.5" tall) but much narrower. I will run these till I can get that New BFG in so I can look normal again. I have not tried the 295s up front, but with them being shorter I don't see any problem running them.

I believe you old fool. I have a 2003 4x4 auto with the 4.7 and 4.10s and 31" tires. Cruising on the Highway at 70 I get about 19-20 mpg. I have the true flow intake, 68mm fastman, HO manifold, HO cams, no clutch fan, and magnaflow exhaust.

i believe ya Lynn... just wondering if you were getting better than you thought.

I say my stock durango gets 20 MPG highway but when i bought it used with 62K miles, it got 18. I did it's first oil change a few weeks ago and put in Mobil 1 10w30 and got the 20 MPG. Soon i will be putting on some little stuff to get a few more miles out of it. Not bad when this thing is listed weighing in at 6050 lbs.

...but it's more like 5500 lbs.

On my V6 i got 25 mpg Highway with the following mods:

Mopar Cold Air Intake
MSD 6a Blaster
MSD 8.5 Wires
MSD Blaster 2 Coil
JBA Headers
Flowmaster 40 Series
JET Stage 2 Module
Crower 1.7 Roller Rockers
Modified Stock V6 TB
Black Maxx Tonneau Cover

while i said i got 25 mpg via the odometer, i was running on 30" tires and really got 27 mpg (drove further than computer said, taller tires).

greyDak,
no doubt you are getting good mileage, i just wanted you to understand that's not the way to do it. Try this:

* fill up tank
* reset tripmeter
* drive till you need to fill again
* fill and record how many gallons you got
* check your tripmeter
* divide trip miles by gallons used.

that's gonna be the most accurate way you can measure. These dodge gauges just dont work that accurately to be using them as i noted with my durango.

Old Fool: You fit your name, you cant base your milage by the posistion of the needle on the gauge. My truck does the same thing by time you run the entire tank down they even out. I have a Buick LeSabre that will show about 110 miles before the needle moves off of full. Maybe I am the one who doesn't know how to figure milage.
Lets see, 22 gal tank needle has not moved off of full, but it must have used 1 gal, so we have 110 miles on 1 gal of gas x 22 gal= 2420 miles per tank, man I feel a lot better about my milage now!

The last road trip I took was down to Texas from Colorado. I went 471 miles on the tripometer. Less 5% is 447 miles actual. I filled my truck and stacked the fuel tight. It held 19.1 gallons. So the milage was 23.426. That is 23+ and the Speed Limit here in Colorado is 75, so I set my cruise at 84 mph. Once in Texas where the Speed limit is 70 I set the cruise on 76 mph and yielded 24.6 mpg. And yes my name fits me 'cause I'm an old fool sitting here arguing with a bonified fool that doesn't know his @ss from a hole in the ground, Good Day. And I will continue with this Dash picture and pump pic when I fill up this tank. When I take my truck to the track and run it on Fridays I fill before I get to the track. I turn about 11 to 17 runs drive home and refill for the week and get 18+ mpg for my trip.

No fool like an old fool. And I don't know what a bonified fool is, but I see a bona fide fool. If you don't top off your tank every time and divide actual miles driven by actual gasoline used, you cannot even get close to a real reading. And anything over 20 mpg at 84 mph is bull$hit.

I still don't understand why no one believes him. I can get 19-20 cruising at 70. I have and auto and a 4x4! He has a 4x2 and a stick. Its quite a bit lighter and has a more efficient drivetrain. When i switched to my 4.10 gears my mpg went up. I beleive its due to the engine not working as hard to maintain speed. Old fool has an intake, throttle body, headers and true duals. These mods a all help to make the engine more efficient. Plus he is using cruise control which also helps him.

Really, what difference does it mean if you mileage is less/more than anyone elses? $10 in gas is still $10 in gas. I go the local Esso and pick up $40 of fuel and hope to heck that it makes it to the full mark (from half way). I do this about once every 3 weeks or so. I am concerned about the cost per litre, but the real limit is $40 that I am willing to shell out. If I can get about 3 weeks of driving on $40, I feel pretty good about that.
If someone else can get 4 weeks, good for them, and if they get less, too bad, try harder. Big deal!
I am happy with what I have, and I think Old Fool is too (actually your ride is friggin awsome and now I have something to use as a guide - any more photos?). With that said, anyone who is arguing mileage, whats the point? Its like the old saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so each of us has an opinion - the way it should be. Mine is different than yours, its the American (and Canadian) way.

that is just my 2 cents (3 cents Canadian)

all i am gonna say is i hope old fool is getting that kind of mileage. Since my land barge is getting 20, i hope a smaller, lighter truck with a tonno cover, full exhaust, cold air intake, aftermarket throttle body, etc etc etc ---- is gonna get better gas mileage.

man, i went to florida a couple weeks ago and the people that took us bought a brand new H2 Hummer.... 11 mpg was the best the beast could muster on the highway.

there... that should make some of yall feel better.
