I have a 2002 QC with the 4.7 liter auto. Does anyone know if a camper shell will slow it down much, or would it be pretty much unoticeable?

the only difference I could tell on my CC was that it handles a little better on wet roads.

Just got my Leer topper on Friday, Love the look! As far as slowing it down.....I havent noticed anything yet- still accelerates like a bat outta hell! I LOVE my 4.7L engine!

There is a web site where a college student did a study as his engineering final.
He did wind tunnel tests of a pickup pickup truck without a cap, with tonneau cover, with cap and some other variations.
BOTTOM LINE: The MPG is better with a cap than without one.
Of course... the xtra weight of the cap does have a negitive effect on accelleration to some degree. (and increases traction in the snow.)
I have a cap and LOVE it. Coupled with a rubber bedmat, there is no better way to go. The rubber bedmat keeps cargo from sliding around and can be pulled out and hosed off any time it gets dirty.
(Thoses silly plastic bathtubs they call bedliners have too many negitives such as explosion hazzard, slippery for cargo and wears the paint off the bed so it rusts.)

I have a Glasstite topper on mine. Flush with the top of the cab and a spray in bedliner.
Only drawback is backing up in parking lots after dark. Hard to see out the back at night due to the tinted windows on mine.

the cheepest way to find one is to find a used one on a truck at a dealer and buy it from them thats what i did and painted it my self the paint only costs like 70 bucks
