I have a 2002 Dakota Quad Cab Metallic Blue in color. Im looking for a Leer or other brand shell in the Los Angeles CA or Orange County area to pick up. Color does not have to match but would be nice. Leer Style Model 122 i would prefer as my intention is to cover two speedway motorcycles on the www.icespeedway.com tour this winter. I just got an A.R.E. fiber glass shell for my 2003 quadcab. I'm wondering if anyone knows the shell would interfere with the mopar fold out bed extender. I have a chance to buy a used one from a guy who's selling his dakota.

jared, just the clamps might hit. if it is a newer LS2 cover it has the small flat plastic clamps and should not interfere. you can also notch the extenders brackets it will not flip out you would have to lift it out and turn it around to use it in the extended position.

Thanks for the reply. It's not a tonneau cover, like the LS2, it's a cap... the Z series. By a visual inspection, it looks like it'd be ok, I just haven't take a real close at it, or taken any measurements.

i appologize i was not reading carefully enough, the Z series is a GREAT looking cap.Still might hit clamps but no big deal.I have been an A.R.E. dealer for many years and the products are EXCELLENT.

Check autotrader. That is how I found mine. I wasn't too picky at the time. I just called everyone within a reasonable driving radius that was selling a Dak with a camper top. Found one at a car dealer, and he agreed to sell the cap on its own for $200 or so. Worked out pretty well for me.
By the way, the GenIII trucks were never offered with a long bed. Only the GenII trucks had an option for an 8ft bed with a standard cab. Otherwise you have a 6 1/2 ft bed. A GenII cap will also fit a GenIII with no problems. I know one guy who did that to his 97 as well.
