For all of you who have done this, you are useing a dremel tool right? So how did you get it smooth, i dont mean polished glass like smooth i mean no divits from that tiny little sanding drum. Or did you? I am going to attempt this and i was curious if you got them all Out. I have done alot of work on wood with it but i used a sanding block ;ater to get it smooth. A sanding block jst doesnt exactly fit down is there. Any help would ne much appreciated.

I'd spend the bucks to take the TB off the engine and send it to a machine shop and have them do it. It couldn't cost all that much I wouldn't think.

Look at old posts a few weeks ago, from CW mainly, he's given real good, clear instructions on self porting the TB.

That or I will just cut and paste again. lol

The key to porting the throttle body is to not remove any material from around the throttle blade when it is closed. Remove the lip that is in front of the throttle blade so that it is the size of the throttle blade. It is quite a narrowing compared to the size of the throttle blade. I used a dremel with sanding drums at 60 grit so as not to remove to much material to quickly. I didn't remove the throttle blade or anyting. Just removed the throttle body from the engine. I didn't bother to polish it as to no HP gain. Just makes it look better.

Sorry no pics due to the lack of a digital camera.

Use a 2" round X 1" tall coated abrasive flap wheel with a 1/4" shank in a drill press or vert. mill with an adjustable stop. Set the stop just before the throttle blades.

The wheels come in different grits 60/80/120/180
www.jlindustrial.com has them. These things work great because 2"= 50.8mm and the flap wheel design itself will compress a little in the 50mm hole.

Happy porting!

CW did you use just the dremel or the wand that comes with some of the dremels? How long did this take you? and does it make any difference in the sound (exhaust) ?

Sound, no difference there. Just used the regular dremel. Took about a hour to do, including taking off the throttle body.

TPS is just for some more throttle response. Can be found at speed tweaks under the tips and tricks section.

One more quick Q. What is the cable on the left side of the TB and how do you get it of ? Not the accelerator cable the other little one that goes around to a round thing in the fenderwell? And after looking at it closely, is the metal on the bottom side of the TB not going to be a little thin after a little grinding?

B- that other cable is the cruise control cable. The round thing on the fender is the cruise control module.

The metal may be thinner, but what do you need it to do? It's only a tube with air going thru it. It's not really structural. It will take a lot to make it collapse (like taking a hammer to it).

O.K. its the cruise control cable. How do you get it off? and i know i asked this earlier, about changing the sound of the exhaust but i took of the little curved, funny looking, funnel thing in front of the air box once before and my truck didnt seem to have the back pressure it had before. It seemed like when i let off the gas it took a few seconds for the RPMs to start slowing the truck. I down shift alot cause im mainly from redlight to redlight to work and back. so this kinda bothers me. Will the port&polish make it do the same thing?

sorry this is late, I just used a slotted screw driver and firmly pushed it off. It looks like it could be easy to break so don't get to rough.

Sorry to leave you hanging, B. I was out of office yesterday. Pull on the plastic cable mount towards the FRONT of the truck. It will take a little effort, but it should pull right off. It is like a ball joint type thing. Just don't break the plastic. Pull forward towrads the front of the truck!
