Anyone out there having trouble with their rotors warping? I found that there are alot of Dodge Dakotas warping anywhere from 5k to 15k miles. Is this the same with Dakotas?

Im believe im having the same problem its been shaking me to death sincearound 15000 miles is there a recall if so what year models fall into it. I assumed it could have been from them getting hot and water getting on them so i just lived with it because ill just ride through the water again. Id appreciate any help anyone can provide i dont want to shake all the bolts loose on my truck

Yes, I've had the same problem. Get powerslot rotors with Hawk pads and your problem will be solved.

ScojoDak is correct. I am putting those on my 98 after hearing a lot of good about them. Saw them on the show Two Guys Garage. They were putting them on a crappy explorer, but they recommended them for trucks! We have a 2001 Dodge Dakota. Bought it with 8k miles. Have had rotors turned twice, replaced those with cross drilled rotors only to have had those turned twice along with rear drums turned. Still having problems with the shaking and cannot get a "logical" answer. Dealership "Technicians" says, "that's normal." "B.S." So, does that mean I have to spend $230.00 every two to three months to have rotors and reardrums "inspected" and turned or replaced?

I replaced my rotors in early August on my '00 Dak with about 34,0000 miles. In October my Dak began to shudder, brake pedal pulsate and steering wheel vibrate while braking. I drive an average of 300 miles per week, mainly highway miles and when I get in town and go from light to light it sucked big time. Anyway, I had them replaced again at 50,000 miles and while picking up my truck I mentioned to the mechanic about driving backwards and hitting the brake in order to adjust the rear brakes. The mechanic suggested work the E brake by pressing it in while holding the release lever about 20 times then get in the habit of setting my E brake each time I parked and this would adjust the rear brakes.

Who offers a true brake "upgrade" for the R/T? I don't want a replacement rotor. I want to replace the current rotors/calipers/drums with a real set of LARGER rotors and calipers on all 4 corners. Going to the power slots is a quick-fix. These stock rotors are tiny! They look rediculous on my R/T. There's like 4" between the caliper and the inside edge of the rim. These things would be inadequate for a YUGO much less a 4100lb CC R/T.

Hey guys good news!

I was just talking with a company yesterday that can make custom "Big Break Kits" for any vehickle, and they acually called me personaly and told me about a kit they can make that would replace the stock rotors and calipers with a big break kit.

Only fall back, its kinda exspensive. Becuase its a custom kit and something they dont make everyday, its about 1600 for the stock 15" rims, and if you have upgraded to 18" Rims its about 2100. If anyone is interested let me know. Maybe if we get enough people involved the kits might come down in price. Who knows...

But for a entire Big Brake Kit I'm getting it. No other company even makes it for the dakotas...

Vibration during braking can be caused by a number of things. Most commonly is warped rotors, but there are others. If you have the discs turned, and the problem does not go away, look somewhere else! Have you checked run out? Don't start "fixing" things until you've actually found the problem. Most of us are actually pretty bad guessers.

My '01 QC 4x4 has 47,000 miles on it. I checked the run out a couple months ago during a tire rotation. It was well within specs, both inside and outside surfaces.

My 2002 SLT RC saw very little street action. I lived in the country and my job was at the edge of the city limits. I never had to even stop on my way to work except to park it in the parking lot. I put a lot of interstate miles on that truck going from Arkansas to Virginia and back. Over half of the 16,000 miles on that truck were from the 4 trips I made to Virginia and North Carolina. You don't hit the brakes nuch on the interstate. My rotors warped by the time it had 8,000 miles on it. I compression braked everytime I got off the interstate going home from work. That truck will nearly come to a complete stop from 70mph in 500ft using the gears. THE BRAKES SUCK!!! Admit it. I've owned a lot of cars and none of them had brakes that sucked this bad.

Everyone seems to lose sight of the fact that the rotors warp not just because they are "too small", "too thin". Those are just factors of the problem. Those factors help the problem of excessive heat buildup, which then will warp the rotors. A cheaper fix if on a limited budget is after turning the rotors nice and true, replace the pads with something that is softer. The OEM pads are very hard, generate tons of heat because they are so hard, but last very long time. Heck, 89000 miles and I am still on all original with lots of life left. When I have the brakes worked on around 100000 miles I am going to have the MOPAR value line pads installed instead. Softer pads will mean more brakedust, I can live with it as they won't generate as much heat which translates into longer rotor life and better stopping power. Why you ask DC would use pads that will cause problems?? Maybe because too many pansies in focus groups complain about breakdust. Unfortunately MOST major auto manufacturers are manufacturing poor quality rotors but with a little bit of thinking instead of complaining solutions can be found. Good luck everyone

I live in the mid-south. THERE ARE NO CURVES!! All the interstates here are staight. I set the cruise and I don't touch the brakes. Dodge has the wonderful CANCEL button for the cruise control. So I never hit my brakes except to pull in my drive way at home and the drive way at work. When I do drive in town it's OK. The rotors only vibrate after I've driven on the interstate at speeds over 60mph for more than 5 miles. The longer I drive it the worse it gets. Once the rotors cool off the problem goes away.

On Jeep Grand Cherokee's warped front rotors are a well known plague that most owners have been complaining about since at least 1999 when the new WJ came out. I have also heard lots of complaints from ZJ owners. Mopar came out with a TSB in 2002 that replaced all rotors and all calipers with upgraded parts to try and fix the problem. I would say that many problems were fixed but my Jeep continued to eat rotors. The problem seems to be that the factory rotors are made of two separate castings that are then pressed together. These separate pieces expand and contract at slightly differnet rates and warp after only a few months of use. So the trick is to find replacement rotors that are made from a single casting.

After trying every aftermarket direct replacement rotor including raybestos and wagner, the only rotors that I Have found that have not failed turned out to be the cheapest ones available. They are made in China and take a lot of punishment, including towing with large trailers, down big hills.

Same here. The best service I've had from aftermarket rotors were from China. I have not replaced the ones on my R/T yet. The Dakotas I had prior to the R/T all had the rotors replace several times.

My first Dakota was a 1992 model and I returned it to the dealer the day I bought it. The right front rotor was warped on that truck and it only had 35 miles on it. They replaced it for free. They told me that rotor was defective. It had over .060" run out from the factory. The service manager came to me and told me they were going to turn the right front rotor. I WENT OFF!! I said not no, but HELL NO! This is a brand new truck and your going to put brand new parts on it. They installed the new right front rotor.

please tell me how I abused my rotors. 99% of my weekly driving in on an interstate highway. I'm now on my third set with 52,000 miles on my truck. I drove S-10's begining in 1982 when they first came out until 1997 for a total of five trucks of which four were 4x4's and put over 200,000 miles on each of them WITHOUT every changing or turning the rotors. So PLEASE ennlighten me as to my abuse to Dodge rotors.
