Subject: Beat by a S10.

My friend and I finally raced the other night on the express way. We got on the express way and waited for traffic to clear then lined em up. He's running a 1997 S10 SS with the HO 4.3L, cone air filter, three inch straight pipe, factory limited slip. My Dakota is a RC 2wd 3.9L 5spd Flowmaster cat back, cool air intake, and lakewood traction bars. Well we lined them up and my girl Friend counted us down. We were side by side until I hit 3rd and he started pulling away. The funny part is that he doesn't realize the potential of his truck and doesn't realize how much faster it can be. I do know the potential of my truck and I'll be faster. Oh yeah he beat me by a car and half length.

My truck has 3:55 gears, but I don't know what his has. I'm ordering a 180 thermostat, powertrax posi unit,Hotchkis leaf springs, rollpan, headers and high flow cat in a couple of weeks. It'll be three inch pipe from the y pipe back. I should be able to take hime then. Can I go to a dodge dealer and order a R/T tail pipe? I was told that it's a 3 inch mandrel bent pipe and flowmaster won't sell me just the tail pipe.

you can order just the tailpipe from the dealer for an R/T just expect to pay over $200 bucks for just the tailpipe. also expect to lose some of your low end torque by running such a large diameter pipe.

Is the superchips thing mentioned above the programmer directly from superchips? Also what NO2 kit. NOS or Nitrous Express?

you can run it with all of them... but probably shouldnt run the superchips with a big amount of nitrous 75 or 100 shot. The superchips advances the timing a bit and that is a big no no with nitrous. I used a 75 shot with my jet stage II module i use to own (advances timing, too). It worked alright on my truck but i sold it when i went to the 100 shot.

Hey Intense, Could I use it up to a 50 shot? How hard is it, time consuming, to switch the nitrous jets to a bigger shot? I race every once in a while and I'd like to be able to run the programmer on the performance setting and maybe a 50 shot of nitrous, mostly for those stop light races. Then when someone wants to race I could switch back to the 87 octane or stock program and put in the bigger jet. Would this possible or not really worth my time. Please help.
Thanks:)

well i used the jet chip up to a 75 shot.

but here is the deal

a 50 shot is cool.. but very not worth the price of the nitrous kit. Now the big difference is the 50-75 shot change. That change has more effect than having no shot to 50 shot. It feels very good. Now if you are questioning weather you should use the 50 shot with the programmer or just the 75 shot by itself..

ummmm..

more nitrous will always be more power than that programmer.

honestly, i wouldnt waste my money on the superchips if i was gonna run nitrous oxide. I am not saying the superchips is bad, just you are trying to go two different routes. Nitrous oxide is very addictive; medicinal or automotive. Once you try it, you are gonna want more and i bet it wont be long before you are trying the 75 and 100 shot pills.

i ran a 13.52 1/4 with mine. That was with a 3.55 peg leg (so there was room for improvement)

another guy (dodgeboy) ran a 13.4x with a pretty good amount of mods.

Are you intentionally trying to make your truck slower???

Putting a 3" system on a 3.9 is going to kill your low end even more. You WILL be sorry after installing it unless you plan on supercharging. You're just gonna make that engine more of a dog than it already is. You may also go crazy from all the resonance that pipe size will make in your cab.

Actually I was thinking about superchargering my truck but nitrous is so much cheaper I'm just going that rout. I wanted the R/T tail pipe because it's all mandrel bent not crush bent. Mandrel=more power. But since I'm not going to supercharge it I'm gonna stick with 2 1/2inch pipe. I have a three inch crush bent pipe with a 40 series flowmaster and I love the way it sounds, but power is more important so I'm switching back this summer. Also would cutting the cat off make a difference?
Thanks:)
