Yes you can but be sure you plug the lines.

Some trucks will get a slight hesitation when you
remove the pump but its more like you just know
its there rather than being an announce

All the pumps do is add air to the exhaust system
for polution control

That is the only effect I have ever seen when
removing the smog pump

Hey nick I have had a rebuilt carb put on the carb has 30,000 on it. The truck use to belong to my grandpa but he past it down to me. It's a great big ball of fire too. This truck will pull the hat of your head. About every other week I take it on a road trip and it hangs with the other cars like a peace of cake. I enjoy this truck and my girlfriend does too! She says it drives better than her 1998 Nissan maxima! The truck has had a new water pump, fuel pump, carb, battery, but I have never had any other major problems with the truck!

P.S. I whould like to hear more about your Dakota!!

Yeah the same here, i rebuilt the carb myself, It was draging, and didnt give me the acceleration that i wanted so i pulled it off and rebuilt it. All in one day!!!! It was a long day. but it has worked great evere since. I have always like my truck, i put an accel cap and rotor and a coil. I just ordered some accel wires for it. My other ones are crap. I am planing on taking the smog pump out and putting a glaspack where the cat it and then getting an exhaust system. Dynomax makes a custom fit catback for our truck, with their superflow muffler. I will get you the # if you want. I also have an edelbrock air cleaner, helped a lot. Havent really replaced anything major except tires, got the alternator rebuilt, (it went out on me), replaced fuel filter.

Other wise my truck keeps up with everyone. I love it because it is so torky, I have a lot of get up off the line. Going 100 is another story!!! Still looking for that mod that will make it that much better. OH, onother thing is i am going to get a flex a lite fan for it. I am sick of the stock fan.

Have you done any exterior mods to your truck? Is it 4x4?

More later

Nick

I'm planning on getting a new paint job on it. It's three tone blue and the paint on the hood and roof is pealing off. otherwise the rest of the truck is good except for some minor scratches. My truck is a 4x2 long bed what about yours. I use a bed cover when me and my girlfriend go on road trips.

Mine is 2wd too. The paint on mine is OK, very faded and starting to chip a little, I just waxed it the other day and it looked a lot better. But i think i need to do it a couple of more times.

I have two rust spots, on on the Driver front fender and driver rear fender, i have sanded and grinded them down and primed them to keep them under control just havent gotten around to takin it to a shop to get em fixed. I am a student so i am low on money.

I have a roll on bed liner that i bought at a local auto store, I think its called hurculiner, worked great and improved the looks.

I HATE the interior though, i have the two tone red and white. Interior is red and its all faded and the headliner is falling off, so i really want to get it all fixed but again no money!!!

oh well

Nick, I am a student too!!! what I did about my headliner was just stapled it but it came loose after a while, My girlfriend was getting ageravated with it, so we took it loose and hot glued it back, and it worked!!! I have also bought a $5 steering wheel cover, I installed my own head rests(I bought a $22 seat cover that had slots for head rests. So I took two small couch pillows and put them in the slots and now I have head rests to make long distance trips better!!!) but if you don't have small couch pillows take a regular pillow and cut it in half, put it in the slots and you have head rests.

P.S. If you have any questions about any thing else please let me know

Hey, where did you get that seat cover? I have been looking for one all over, but i want one with a spot for the middle arm rest. All that i have found you can't use that. You have to keep it up. Yeah i think i am going to take the headliner off and do something with it.

How did you take it off? just ripped it down or did you take down the trim by the door?

I got the seat covers from autozone but it didn't have a slot for the arm rest so I cut a hole in it and Tara( my girlfriend) glued the peice that I cut out back on top of the arm rest. My interior is blue on blue and it looks almost new except for the minnor crack above the cupholder I keep it shiny with armor all wipes. I removed my headliner by taking it out by the edges. I wouldn't have done all of this if it wasn't for Tara( she's a BIG HELP!) thats why we are getting married after I get my master's

Good for you about you and your girlfriend, i wish my GF would help me work on my truck :( oh well, feel lucky!!!!

Hey do you know what your idle speed is set at? I am working on mine trying to tune it up.

Another question...when in second gear and accelerating very hard, my engine limits at 3,000 RPM's and wont go any higher i am trying to figure out whats going on...

All of this i am asuming that you have a tach hooked up on your truck!!!

I am curious to see what you truck looks like, you have any pictures to trade of your truck???

I have the auto, so it shifts at 4500, and 4350 or close to it. I know doing someplace around 110, it starts to viberate, quite a bit. =\

Hey nick my idle rpm is set at 1,000 in park and neutral. here the deal with the low rpm in second gear, When the truck(automatic) gets to a speed of 40mph there's a lock up clutch inside the torque converter ( it a feature designed to save gas) and when it locks up it locks the engine directly to the trans without the slipage of regular driving. This usally happens when you are not accelerating hard when it locks up it slows the engine down. TRUST ME, IT SAVE YOU MONEY WHEN IT COMES TO HIGHWAY DRIVING!!! I will have some pictures put on the web in a couple of days.No I don't have a tach hooked up on my truck but I have it tested on a computer device and it was running at 1,003Rpm. Do you have any pictures of your truck? Sorry about responding so late but I had to study for one of my tests
