Hey just go spend $12 and get a locking gas cap.

OK change a motor in a new cadilak with the
northstar system and than tell me about poor
enginering 60,000 miles dead on road oh ya
it had a knock sensor

On my V6 I am glad I don't have a knock sensor it
would make things dificult.

The only reason they use them is for dumb A$$ like
you that don't know there own A$$ from a hole in
the ground and would distroy there motor by doing
dumb things you think will make you vehicle faster

whereever I go, I leave a little something behind. It could a few drops of engine oil, somtimes some transmission fluid and once in a while some antifreeze.
Currently I'm leaving some trans and antifreeze and it's a 99. Ain't that old
Bet they still use the cork gaskets

Hummm lets compare the original list of complaints to my 1988 Yugo
1 standard with a locking gas cap
2 distributor is held on with 2 spring clips
3 no plastic battery cover
4 distributor is up front and very easy to get to
5 the Yugo radiator is well protected
6 the radiator over flow bottle is very easy to remove
7 no cable holders to break, all wires in a wire loom
8 humm well it does have a sturdy steel oil pan
9 uses 4.8 qts of oil with a change
10 actually my Yugo's engine, although a little cold natured, runs like a sewing machine, and not much more power than one either!
11 again with 89 or higher octane no pinging
12 headlights are very easy to remove

There you have it by the original standards listed my yugo is in the top 10 for great engineering!!

LOL

The Yugo is fun to drive though, feels like driving a go-cart at 70 mph! Yeah I really got it up to 70!

I guess I must have a dak look-alike then since my tranny has never leaked... nor have I leaked coolant, oil, gas, water, windshield washer fluid, brake fluid, and the list goes on...

You say it shows that you bought a dak instead of a tundra. I am a dak owner and a toyota technician so lets compare.

>>1. no locking gas cover
Why would you want one?

>>2. distributor cap has hex bolts but not enough >>room around them for a socket.
Tundra has no distributor, i never had a problem getting my daks dist cap off though.

>>3. they put a plastic cover over the battery >>that you throw away when you replace the >>battery
Tundra has a foam one, you should put it back on your new battery, it protects it from heat.

>>4. distributor is jammed between engine and >>fire wall.
see #2

>>5. radiator with no protection in front of it.
Tundra has no protection either

>>6. you have to remove bumper to replace >>radiator overflow bottle
Ever replace a tundra washer solvent bottle?

>>7. cable holders that you have to break to open
??

>>8. steel oil pan not aluminum/magnesium
Tundra is steel

>>9. only four quarts of oil for a V6
I agree with you there, but it's more like 4.8

>>10. noisey squelling/knocking engine
Tundra piston slap like crazy when there cold

>>11. pinging when running
So do Tundras

A dak is one of the easiest vehicles around to work on if you have the right tools, try working on a front wheel drive V6 car. You can't see most of the parts, you have to know where they are and unbolt them just by feel. You only have 2 inches clearance all around to try and remove the engine without breaking anything.

Plus the dak is a midsize truck, and the tundra is a fullsize truck. You should really compare it to a Tacoma.

'99 V6 cc auto 2wd: (one of the very cleanest on the street, I sware)

I bought it new and I take care of it to almost an obsessive amount (ask my wife!)

It has NEVER leaked ANYWHERE and still runs better than new (it better after all the mods).

People that do the bare minimum or less to maintain their sh#t, and then wonder why they have problems make me laugh!

An ounce of prevention, is worth a pound of cure.

God did I just say that???....... My mom would be proud!

3. they put a plastic cover over the battery that you throw away when you replace the battery

Maybe you throw it away, I think most people keep it on the new battery.

5. radiator with no protection in front of it.

Not many 'protected' radiators are protected enough to withstand front impact to begin with. No point.

6. you have to remove bumper to replace radiator overflow bottle

I had an '84 Pontiac Fiero and you had to remove the engine to replace the belts.

7. cable holders that you have to break to open

Umm...maybe you have to break them... I never have, most people I know never have...

10. noisey squelling/knocking engine
11. pinging when running

I had a '95 Suzuki Sidekick that sounded like a diesel big rig when it was cold, and pinged like a mofo the rest of the time, regardless of the octane used. Somehow it managed to last over 250,000 miles with bare minimum maintenance (regular oil, plugs when I got around to it.) The point being that sound has little to do with the function of an engine.

Most engines ping or chatter like crazy. You generally don't hear it because many automakers dampen the sound, or run sound reversals/white noise in the engine to cancel it out.

12. little holes to remove headlight bulbs

Get smaller fingers, ham fist.

this is on a 1993 dodge dakota 3.9L v6 with a standard trans. whats wrong with the C.M.C. dak division they made the right side cylinder head hang over the c.p.s. mounting bolts. to change a $60 part you have to pull the head. had they moved the c.p.s. 1/2 an inch in either direction and you could pop that thing in and out very easy.

just bought a distrubutor cap and rotor for the wife's Honda. Darn but it's well made with steel bushings and a rubber gasket.
Dodge has gotten better. I stopped buying american cars way back because I knew how the rattle traps were built.
Dodge now does have sound buffers in the dash but they still have a long way to go.

spotty: yes the seals are still cork, but mine has a 112000 miles and doens't leak a drop anywhere.

As far as radiator protection (i'm assuming from rocks etc) get a piece of aluminium screen for a screen door and paint it black. Works great for me.

I can realate to the 70mph in a go cart. I had my aspire to 90mph down a hill, maxes at 85 on flat ground, not too bad for a 1.3-4

God I wish Honda would make a middle size pick up. Daks are a high maintence item. Always something breakin or leakin
