Subject: timing problem???
IP: Logged

Message:
ok heres my continuing problem with a misfiring 3.9 replaced plugs wires cap and rotor button again and still missing soo i checked the timing by aligning #1 cylinder at tdc and the rotor isn't qiet centerd on #1 plug on distr. cap but also noticed it's not aligned at all with the camshaft positioning sensor alignment mark under the distr. cap.. anyone else had this problem?? or should the sensor alignment mark even be inline with the #1 plug??

I'm not sure how that stuff should line up at tdc, infact your engine is probably set up to fire at around 10 degrees btdc. So the rotor won't line up with #1 right at tdc. Can't you just put a timing light on it??

i have a manual on the dakota and in 1 section it says that the camshaft position sensor alignment mark has to be lined with rotor on tdc and then in another section on the timing it says that on tdc rotor needs to be inline with #1.... i'm not sure either well taking it to a dealer that i know and trust tom to have the whole engine checked .. i'll post the problem/fix when i find out just incase someone runs into this problem

ok i worked till 3 a.m. this morning on the timing and found that it can't be set with the distributor (on a 2000 model anyways) has to be done at the dealership on their computer but i did manage to get the camshaft sensor under the cap in time i took the truck to the dealer and had it put on the diagnostics test $45 and found that 1 tank of gas ruined 1 injector on #6 cylinder replaced it $75 also had a brand new autolite 3923 plug with less than 100 miles on it bad around the top.. in all with the labor it costed me $180 for 1 bad tank of gas and still have to replace the other 5 injectors.. any ideas on where to get injectors cheaper than the dealer??? checked autozone and advance but they say they can't get them ;(

ok thanks for the help finding injectors...
$198 for all 6 from fiveomotorsports is alot better than the dealer's $75 each lol i think buying a new truck would be cheaper than buying all the parts from the dealer

ICEMAN

make sure you get the right ones, if you have a 2000 Dak check to see if your injectors are "RED" if they are these are 21# injectors not 19# you will down size if your get the wrong FMS ones

k thanks anyways.. i wish you better luck out of them than what i got.. they are a pain in the @ss to work on.. theres something funny about having 2 injectors sucking air around them (the seals are there but not completely tight) now though... i mean i worked on it late last night and no stores open to get new seals for them soo i just put them in just to make it to town to get the seals and with them leaking air it's hard to keep the truck at a conastant speed -->>> seems to be sucking alot of air around them from the intake and making better power

What a moron... :0)

Just what, pray tell, makes a Carburator more 'American' than a fuel injector?

I have never seen a carbuerated car run near as good as any fuel injected car. I use to be all into the all-american muscle cars with carbs, but thats a thing of the past.

I have 2000 Dakota QC 3.9 L and the problem is when I check the timing with the timing light in the #1 spark plug I cannot see the line that should align at the TDC mark. But when I check at the #4 spark plug the line show up. Is this a big problem? And also when I start the engine in the first try,it doesn't start but it always start on the second try. Can you help me on this problem.
