The only wany to propery "time" these OBDII trucks is to go to a mechanic (or dealer) that has a scanner to check the distributor indexing.

Don't move the distributor by hand because you could get the system all outta whack.

Settings of 0 to +3 work best.

I did not do any mods on my 2000 Dakota QC 3.9L but when I checked the timing with my AutoXray OBDII and the timing is Adv. 16.0 degrees. Is this the OEM setting or not? I ask this question because some of the guys that doing mods are trying to reach from 11 to 15 degrees Adv.

The base timing is set by the crank sensor telling
the computer where the crank is after that its
 controled completly by the comp.

Even if you do the mod and read it with a scanner
it will tell you the same thing. but you will
actualy be 3 to 4 degrees more.

Turning the dist only changes when the injectors
 pulse not timing.
