I've never had a chance to race a v6 ranger or s10, but I have raced a 4 banger ranger. The way the guy talks about his truck, you would think it was a top fueler. He led me to believe that it would be a good race and bet me 5 dollars he would win. WOW, I kicked his ass bad. Now I brag to him every day at school.

well it seems like you guys are all about the damn Dakota. Well I will give you guys some input... 4.3 votec is a better motor then any of the dakotas.. it comes with 180 hp 250 lb ... 98 % of sonoma's and s-10's have a damn 4 banger 120 hp motor and itz slow as #(&*^... you can't tell the engine it has unless you ask them... So next time you pank somone think to your self i just beat a 2.2 litter engine. By the way the 4.3 runs like mid 15's in the 1/4 mile. With some work you can get them down to about low 14's
... Torque wins races not hp

Vortec 4300 V6 with 180 horsepower @ 4400 RPM and 245 lb ft torque @ 2800

I certainly wouldn't use the phrase "any dakotas"

Allow me to list a few numbers as you have...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

4.7L V8: 235hp @ 4800RPM, 295ft-lb @ 3200RPM
5.9L V8: 250hp @ 4400RPM, 345ft-lb @ 3200RPM

So again I wouldn't say "any" of the Dakota engines. One would have to prove to me that a 4.3L Vortec is better than those before I'd beleive its better than "any" of the Dakota engines. ;)

3645lbs(auto) 3398lbs(5 speed)
175hp@4800 rpms 225 lb/ft tq@3200rpms

4.3 is less efficient but has more low end.
hitting peak power faster and having more total i dont see how a dakota could be faster when it weighs more
of course the V8s are faster!!!

you would also have to look at the powerband to see where it makes most of its power... those are just peak numbers... who racing keeps there vehicle at 2800 rpms?

my guess is around 3600-3700 lbs soaking wet... dont really know. Right now the front bumper is off and the fenders and a lot of other crap. WEIGHT REDUCTION!!

15 sec quarters for stock xtreme! not possible. i know this kid who has the 4.3 rc 5speed with intake, stage 2 chip, injectors, plugs and wires, electric fan, with aftermarket gears (not sure what they are)and he barely gets into the 15's.

Oh yeah, the 3.0 rangers have impressive power! Thats bull. I've raced my buddy's with my 3.9 and raped and reamed him. He has the 3.73 gears with a 5 speed and I have 3.21. Uphill was even more embarrassing (for him). At 40, we both punched it, in 2nd to 3rd, and I started to walk away from him right away. He traded for a 2000 mustang Gt, so he gets all of the laughs now.

HONESTLY GUYS THE VORTEC 4.3 GM MOTOR STOCK IS NOT IN ANY WAY A HOT STREET MOTOR, AND NEITHER THE 3.9 MAGNUM. I DRIVE A 99 3.9 STD CAB DAKOTA. mY BEST FRIEND DRIVES A 2002 GMC SONOMA 4.3 (5 SPD, AS IS MINE) XTND CAB AND HE HAS YET TO BEAT ME, WE BOTH HAVE MODERATE UPGRADES BUT IN THE END BOTH ENGINES ARE CLOSE TO EQUAL!

Hmmm seems to me someone keeps to forget the S-DIME has only a 160 hp Vortec and the Blazer get the 190 hp Engine. Rod my money would go on the Ford with 4.0l

I just wanna know what makes an Extreme S10 so special. I see they are lowered but that's about it. Do they have 4.10 posi rearends? The one I saw under the hood had Throttle Body Injection. That kinda made me wonder about how fast these shivies are. Prolly not too fast.

If that is the case, I know my 92 will beat his @$$. He swore to me that they came with a 4.10 posi. His truck is a completely stock 2000. I should have raced him and won some money, cause more than a few people were betting on it if it were to happen. My mods: Mopar PCM,V8 tb,FMS Injectors,K&N,Flowmaster,Tps mod,3.92 open, and a few others.

ALl you people driving dodges make me sick. None of you seem to know what you are talking about. I drive a 94 s-10 4x4 extended cab, and guess what, i took down one of your 5.9 Rams, yea thats right. Also, i witnessed my buddy who drives a 2001 s-10 2x4 extended cab, take a 2x4 standard cab Ram with a 318 out behind the wood shed for a beating. Also in 94 Chevy made a high-output version of the 4.3 that came with 195 hp and 265 lb ft of torque. Better do your hp/ci calculations again.

Yeah yeah, I just felt like putting that down...I know they make em for Ford and Dodge just as well. Anyway, I prefer Dakotas, but I really don't have anything against Fords or Chevrolets. I do, however, want to mention that last I knew the Dodge Ram was not created as a 'race' truck. Sure some may modify the hell out of em and race em, but I believe they were designed more for power NOT speed. Another thing you may want to take into consideration is the fact that a Ram weighs A LOT more than an S-10. That makes a HUGE difference as well.

Um hay chevy dude. Learn your trucks before you tare them eppart. I have beaten a 5.9L ram in my dakota with no mods on my truck. I have you ever thought about how much that thoese things weigh. I also raced a newer looking S-10 extreme and I was not very impressed. I thought it would be faster, yes he tore ma a new ass hole but he was only ahead of me by about a car length. And I had his ass up to around 30 or 40. So just try racing something in your weight class next time and you may just get a challenge.
