All this talk of rangers and s 10s. I used to drive a 3.0 ranger with a 5 speed and it was kinda quick. I would say just as fast if not a lil slower than the v6 dak, the dak has more torque and horsepower but is a lil heavier. Off the line the dakota is much faster and overall i say the dakota would rape a ranger. As for the s 10s I had a gmc ext cab 4.3 sonoma. It was pretty quick but I only noticed the power in the low end of the power band. Off the line the truck was very impressive, but top end wise I would say it is close to the 3.9 dakota. So my two cents is these trucks are all pretty damn close so no one has any room to talk like they are a top fuel drag racer. It all boils down to whos got the most mods/money.

ok well i had a 93 Z28 camaro with some minor mods...but that just got sold. I am lookin into buyin a 99 ranger 4.0L 4x4 or a 97-00 S-10 ZR2.I'm not sure on what i want. I guess it all comes down to if its got balls when i step on the pedal. I am gonna be towing a boat around sometimes too which is another concern. Which one is gonna tow better ?? Which one is gonna get better gas mileage ? well it seems you guys know quite a bit about v-6 trucks...hope you can help me out with my dicision.
P.S.--- Dodge is out of the question ! !

Dude my best friend has a 98 Ford Ranger 5spd...it is the biggest peice of trash. I think everything on the truck has broken and it only has like 50k miles on it. The rearend just blew out the other night on the highway when he was crusing back to school.

I prefer Dodge's myself, but since you don't want a Dodge, I'd say go with the S-10 ZR2. I don't have a problem with Rangers, but I personally think the ZR2's have some kickass looks! Now if you're deciding between a normal S-10 and a normal Ranger I'd say go for the Ranger.

My buddy has a '95 Ranger with a 2.3 liter in it and it has wooped a bunch of S-10's with V-6s' in them. Heck he has even wooped a V-6 Mustang, a 1994 Chevy Full-Size truck with a 5.7 liter Vortec. Now my other friend who has a '94 GMC Sonoma with a 4.3 liter Vortec, has wooped everybody that he has raced (V8 Dakotas, V6 Camaros, V6 Mustang, V8 Chevy Truck) and all he did was lower it and put skinny tires on the front. So guess what fuc dakotas. I probably would own one but the 5.9's dont come with 5-speeds and they weigh about 5000 pounds. Oh and my little Suzuki Samuari could woop yalls Dakotas any days, and that is all to the help of a 4.3 liter Votec sooped up to about 250 horses and about 400 lbs. ft. torque. So beat that.

WOW RICHARD!!!!you have to be the most un educated mechanicaly ignorant person to ever open his mouth and speak.so many faults in your statement,like the 2.3 ranger beating a 5.7 vortec,the only way that could happen is if the chevy was racing your friend on his rotors.and as far as the 4.3 vortec beating the dakotas,i dont see that happening either.they are fast but i my self have beaten a 2002 4.3 vortec automatic.he was fast but didnt beat me.and im not even gonna talk about your slowzuki.

its simple, the 4.0 is a good MPG motor good for toating small loads (hins the truck being light and small) The 4.3 is good for high revs and draging, and the 3.9 is sweet for toating a load..
Got a 3.9 you want to make run faster.... okay bore it, no need to stroke, votec the pistons heads.... Then you have a sweet 3.9.... okay now cam it just a lil, port it, lalalalalala ZOOM!

In case you guys didnt know trucks are for towing, hauling crap, and work. Who cares about who is faster. my 87 4x4 dakota can go anywhere, haul anything, and do everything that my friends 2001 4.0 edge ranger can do. Plus his door panels are already rusting out and my truck is spotless. If you wanna go fast buy a car.

we've used both of our trucks to pull my friends ski boat...about 3000 lbs. They both did very well, and i'd have to say it was even. I like my truck more then his, but it is embarassing that my bigger truck has less power.

I totally agree with whatatruckis4!! I didnt buy my truck for speed like he said cars are for. I use it to haul, tow, hunt and about anything that i need to do. Yeah some of the stock rangers may be quicker then these dakotas but hook the damn things up and see what they will do. If thats not enough get a 24 valve cummins turbo diesel to take out the trash.

i love how one minute u guys are like "daks can kill any chevy" then eveyone is like "no they are weaker" then the first guy is like "well they can tow more" big fucking deal. nobody who is serious about towing or racing buys a V6 pickup truck...i cant wait to hear u guys bitch when that 200+ hp vortec I5 comes out... that should be a good laugh...props to dodge on the SRT-4 though...its putting us SE-Rs in our place. (till the 05 turbo Spec V :D)
anyways...come crash thevboard.com we could use some truck people.

well the biggest idea about the SRT-4 is that its the fastest car for under $20k. I dont think nissan can beat that even with a turbo... theirs will cost more.

SE-Rs base price is around 17,000...u don't think they could turbo it for $3000?? maybe if u get a sunroof, abs and the rockford stereo it would be over 20...but the spec V already handles quite a bit better then the neon (skidpad is .88 vs neons .84-.85), it has LSD and it has six speed. also the QR25 is a more powerful engine NA then neons 2.4...people are turboing spec Vs and getting ~240whp with stock internals @ 7-9 psi. thats already faster then the neon...with internal mods we're talkin like 450whp in a 2700lb car

more than likely it will have more than just a turbo bolted on.
The SRT-4 cost like $4000-5000 more than the Neon RT and like $7000 more than the SXT.
Besides all the motor upgrades and engine controls to support the turbo, it will probably have a better suspension, wheel package and everything... they're gonna want to seperate that car from the rest.
