im thinkin about cuttin off my muffler just a few inches infront of it, and running tailpipes out each side just infront of the rear wheels, ill keep my muffler incase it needs to go back on, but any idea how loud it will be? im doing it for a few reasons(looks, sound, bit of power)but i dont want a ticket and i cant afford a whole new exhaust system

so if i cut off the muffler will it be really loud and get me tickets or shouldnt i worry? its a 01 sport, v6 3.9l, no serious engine mods

it will probably be loud as hell and you WILL lose power on the lower RPM end. at the least get a $15 cherry bomb super turbo muffler from A/Z. beats straight pipes.

Why not go with a decent sounding single in/dual out muffler? Since it's a V6, it's gonna sound like ass straight-piped or even running glass packs, cherry bombs, etc.

You'll lose a lot of low end torque...I believe due to the lack of scavenging affect, which is often confused with lack of back-pressure, or something like that.

Regardless...you're gonna lose low-end and it's gonna sound like ass (but it'll probably look good). Simple as that.

Run duals off a muffler...then it'll look AND sound good.

well i think i will run duals off a muffler since i found sum cheap 1s, but will i still lose power even with the new muffler? if ima lose power, then 4get it

friend once told me, most cars are all show and no "go", thats not what i want, i dont want a fast nice lookin vehicle that just puts along

but if i add a cherrybomb or sumtin and do dual tailpipes, will i still lose power?

for a good performance muffler to replace that stock muffler a lot of guys here have used the Dynomax 17748 which i think you can get at O'reilly's. it shouold be pretty much a stock fit with a good sound and freer flowing than the stock for about 70 bucks.

if you go with something single in/dual out use the stock size 2.5" inlet and probably 2" maybe 2.25" dual outlet. that shouldn't hurt perfromance any. especially 2" dual out.

The gas tank is right in front of the axel on the left side. The exhaust pipe will have to run right next to it. Won't the heat from the exhaust be an issue?

bump i guess
if i get a new muffler, like a cherrybomb, will it make a difference from the stock 1? or should i keep the stock muffler?

will the new 1 sound better? louder?
if i dont need a new muffler because it will sound the same as the stock, then i wont waste my money

hm, never thought of that, will it be an issue? maybe instead of that far back, ill have it come out at the front of the bed, right behind the driver door(just a 2seater)

Stock inlet on a V6 is 3", outlet is 2.5, it flows half way decent, as one other said get a good performance dual outlet muffler.
less than the cost and hassle of a ticket. You'll be under the truck anyway, do it right.

I just replaced my exhaust from the Y-pipe back with stock replacement parts, around $260.

And, yes, the V6 with its odd firing order will sound like crap with straight pipes.

Cherry bomb 2.5 In/2.5 out to a "Y" pipe and into 2 inch tailpipes will work really good for what you are trying to do. If your gonna spent the $$ for the muffler and the "Y" pipe and two tailpipes your spending alot of extra $$. Just remove your stock muffler and replace it with a Dynomax 17748,and use the stock tailpipe and it'll sound great and perform great for the least amount of cash.
