I have looked a Larry's Suggested Mods and I have purchased all parts, or have in place the things to tweak, except the intake portion, and only Magnaflow cat back. Thanks for your time and input with this Forum by the way Larry.

My Question is, Will the stock valve covers need any mods for the Rockers to fit without hitting?

Alright, Thanks, didn't want to tear it down just to do it over again. Everyday driver so trying to get all facts down before I start on it.

The stock valve covers work fine with the H-S rockers - no mod required.

Here's some good stuff for you. Complete instructions are at: www.pavementsucks.com/tech/rollerrocker.php

Go to this one for some additional tips from when I put mine on last fall: http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/v6/14058.html

TuckerLdlow, how do those Roller rockers affect your performance and gas milage? I was thinkin of getting some if it helps well with mpg, since summer driving season is coming, and so are higher gas prices again.

Thanks for the input Tucker, I plan on tearing the whole top down minus the intake, I have new injectors and TB, so all that will be out of my way. I'm just waiting on a weekend off to get started.

Tucker, I was wondering about push rods myself, reading to pavementsucks install pages, after all I spent already, it really isn't all that much more to replace em with the ones they used.

Any suggestions on that issue anyone?

Alec, Problem Child - I have to say that the 1.7s have probably been the best mod that I've done. The throttle body helped, and the superchips helped - but after I put the roller rockers in, the truck will spin a tire from a dead stop and it wouldn't do that before.

The thing that I immediately noticed is that the noise under the hood quieted down right off the bat - the truck just runs smoother.

It's also helped the mileage. If I keep my foot out of it and run 60-65, I get in excess of 22.5 on the road. That last trip down from WV, I got 23.9. Town mileage improved a bit, too - used to get 15-16, and now it's almost always better than 17.

If I had it to do again, I definitely would change out my pushrods for something a little stouter. The stock ones just seem flimsy, and I can recall seeing more than one post where somebody found one bent or splitting.

It seems that there are a couple-three of you who are looking for HS 1.7s, so why don't one of you talk to Mercedes at SoutheastRT about a group buy? He told me last year that he'd do a group buy if 3 or more people were interested. That gets your cost down a little more.

The HS part number for the HS 1.7s for the 3.9L is S70047; at Summit, it's CSP-S70047 (and today's price is 300.69). I don't know what the part number is at SoutheastRT, but I think you just use the HS part number.

John Mercedes is a good guy...contacting him about a group buy wouldn't be a bad idea at all. But before you guys do so, make sure you got enough people who are committed to it before contacting him. If I find out what's going on with my truck soon, I'd be interested...but as it stands, I'm looking to get a V8, so if all goes as planned, I'd need a kit for a V8.

We had a Reflexxion cowl induction hood group buy going on another site that I got involved in...they needed like 10-15 people in order to do it and communications got mixed up and only like 3 people were actually committed to it and contacted him (including myself). He was willing to give us the group buy price anyway (STEEL Reflexxion cowl induction hood for $400 shipped), but due to the guy who initially contacted him leaving him to take the fall with Reflexxion since he'd told them they had 15 people committed to buying, he told me he was gonna be a lil more hesitant before setting up another group buy like that anytime soon.

I already have mine, still waiting on my weekend off to tear the top off the thing and GET R DONE.
I also decided to replace the pushrods, just to make me feel better. I chose the Comp Cams, HI TECH 7933-1, bought them direct and saved almost 4 bucks per rod over Summit. Ordered em yesterday, and where waiting at the back door for me tonight. Now that is service.

If only my F&B back order TB would get here

The harlands are a true bolt in no cover mods
needed and the stock push rods work just fine

warm your engine a little first it will help
the lifters bleed better

when the covers are off rotate engine clockwise
watch the #1 cyl intake valve open and close than
got to TDC keep going to the V6 mark at 0 on
timming cover use a good light to see this

this is the position where none of the valves
will be fully open

Use blue locktight torque to 21 22 foot pounds
alow the lifters to bleed for 20 min

now start truck it may miss a little run 1 min
shut off let bleed for 10 min repete this 3 or
4 times they will self adjust and be already to
rock and roll

A bigger throttle body and the 1.7's will increase
torque and gas mileage as long as you keep your
foot out of it

after around 200 miles the comp will adjust to
the new flow and run great

1 thing here be sure your o2 is good so it will
pickup the new flow and add the fuel if its
in question go to ngk.com and get a new one

60 to 80,000 miles recomended replaced

The harlands are also rated for 8,000 rpm

off idle low end will increase and a very
noticeable increase from 1800 rpm to redline

I am getting 24.5 just yesterday all the bolt ons
and mods jet 2 chip 92 motor 95 4x4 120,000 miles

New ngk o2 and the halo plugs, reg staht 195
running 183 185

the org 195 thermo is a metered flow design the
full flow 180's will run cold unless you live
where it never goes below 30 40 degress don't
use the 180 thermos get the reg stant 195
