Hey,
Have 99 3.9l 2wd
MSD Coil, wires, Air R. CAI
Just installed a 48mm F&B TB
Runs awesome! Highly recomend.
But now after 40 miles or so the check engine light went on.
I think it came on at the same time as the low fuel light.
Any thoughts people?

There is no reason for tb install to throw a code. Most all, if not all, problems are traced to bad install or some unrelated problem. Failure to connect or correctly install sensors are the most frequent problem.
Letting us know what the code is will help a great deal.

put only 30$ in, see what happens next gas light.
Itll cost me 100$ to check the code, thinking Ill wait a sec and get a superchips.

could have been the gas cap wasn't tight. that would explain why it's out now after you put gas. oh, 100 bucks to check a code? you guys don't have autozone or someone like that up there? autozone and a couple of other here in the states read codes for free. for 120 bucks or less you could buy a code reader.

You can buy an OBD2 scanner for like 85 bucks and never worry again.

Around here people just stop by Auto Zone and they read the codes for nothing. Check around. If you have ever considered a Superchips, it also reads codes.

Up here we dont have squat.
No autozone, but napa, mopac, etc.
To check a code gota pay 100$ or buy something for your self (prob. getting a superchips)
Like 200$ to go stap up to the dyno...

On/off trick works on early-mid 90's+...except for 98 Dakotas...dunno wtf they changed but it doesn't work on them. I think either 99 or 00+ it gives certain codes, but they're limited to certain ones...I think. No clue if the trick works for the new generation of Dakotas or not.

Happened again...
Low fuel light on, little later chk engine came on.
will put gas in tonight see if it shuts it off again.
Any further ideas?
with out chking codes...

Good even be a bad gas cap... not sure. Go out to your truck, put the keys in and turn the ignition on (but do not start), off, on, off, on (and leave it on). The check engine light should blink so many times, pause, blink some more, etc...let us know what it does and we can check to see what code it's throwing. I think that trick should work on your 99...doesn't on my 98 unfortunately...lol

How much is a new gas cap? I would try that first, I know how much it costs for a scan, I am a canuck too! I had them adjust my speedo cause I changed to a bigger tire... 10 minutes work, $50.00 later. By the way, I had the check engine light come on too and it was a loose gas cap.

New gas caps are pretty cheap I'd imagine...never had to buy one so I really can't even give you a rough estimate. Wow...I can definitely see the perks for Canadians buying a Superchips tuner since it can read codes, calibrate for tire sizes, etc. Superchips should increase their advertising in Canada. Just using it for diagnostic issues, it would prolly pay for itself in a couple years tops...less if your truck is always breaking something. lol
