Of course with the Mopar performance Computer I need to buy 93 octane, so it costs more per gallon.

Do you have a homebrew/K&N intake? Other than that put a manual tranny and drop the 4 wheel drive. I have a 97, RC, 3.9, standard trans with homebrew intake with K&N cone filter(hooked up to the vacated rubber flap by the radiator), V8 TB, relocated new IAT(with 20K resistance in series), 180 t-stat, new TPS(set to .715VDC), MAP, IAC. Hi-flow cat and flowmaster 40 muffler(2.5" factory pipe. I tried the 3" but the loss of back pressure was REALLY noticable) I get 19-21 MPG city and 25-27 MPG hwy. The only "cheap" things i haven't done yet is change the O2 sensors(99K and i have noticed a drop in MPG)and install the double roller timing chain.

no way i would ever drop the 4wd. I would never own one without it. I use it probably at least 20 times a year. The standard trans I have wished I had for a long time, but that would be too costly of a change, would be more cost effective to switch trucks. as for the intake, no i havent made one yet but i have been making some plans to produce one. kinda short on tools right now(in a temp location for a few months).

93dak4x4-
stock airbox is way too restrictive, especially with the V8 tb. All you have to do is remove the snorkel and cut a bigger hole in the box (4"-5" diameter). For best mpg just let it suck hot engine compartment air. I was getting 22-23mpg @65mph with the front flap cut out - replaced flap (was trying to improve winter mpg, left it in for summer) last 2400 mile round trip in June got 24-25mpg and no noticeable performance loss.

CC auto, 3.55 LSD, 30x9.50x15s, V8 tb, 180 stat, modded airbox with stock paper filter, synthetic in engine and diff, Bosch plats (the regular ones)

93dak4x4, have you considered a gear change? some on here have noticed an increase in mileage going from 3.55's to 4.10's. granted those were v8's but it would probably help the lil 6'er as well. especially with an auto tranny. my '00 QC 3.9 5speed manual gets about 17 in town and as much as 22 hwy with 3.55's and 235/75/15's.

Yea the V6 has come in quite handy right now. I am getting between 21-23 mpg city and as high as 27 highway mpg. Not too many mods done to the truck either. K&N homebrew intake, 8.5mm MSD wires, new platinum plugs, new coil, and flowmaster 40 single in/dual out. Next thing to come is new throttle body and computer. I love my dakota. wouldn't ask for anything else.

21-23mpg city and 27 highway?????????

No frickin way. Not yesterday, not today, and not tomorrow.....No way. EVER, EVER, EVER.

I have a '99 v6 cc 2wd that I drive 90% highway @ 65mph. I have all the motor mods, and then some (lowered, tonneau, tire's @ 40 psi)......I only get 17.5-19mpg...Thats ALL, EVER.

The best mpg I ever got was going to Vegas with no traffic, no stops, and getting run over by going 65mph........I got a whooping 22mpg.

YOU ARE NOT CALCULATING YOUR MPG CORRECTLY

The Gen II Dakotas are atleast 500lbs lighter than there Gen III equivilants, makes a big difference.

Daddio,
You said the gas mileage got better when switching to the 4.10's? I currently have the slow off the line 3.23 rear, but have a L/S 3.92 rear waiting to be installed. think that will improve mileage?

i didn't say it. i read it. i have 3.55's in my '00 QC 3.9 w/ 5spd and if i had the cash lying around i would change to 3.92's or 4.10's. search for some post by kowalski and someone else in the V8 forum. they claimed mileage gains when going to 4.10's. try here http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/per/12228.html

4.10 gears are ok for city driving but you will not get better mileage on the freeway. You get better mileage in town because you accelerate quicker with less throttle and thus get up to speed quicker.

Better mileage going from 3:23-4:10? Not possible.
More rpm= more fuel. Why do you think OD was built? BTW I once had a Ram 50(Mitsu crap) 2.0
with a 5-speed and the best I ever did was 22mpg.
