Gear change is way to expensive for what it would do. Truck already has 3.50's in it. those push it along pretty decent. As far as the cold air intake idea, Truck never came with an "air box" it has the round style element on top which i am working on a little concoction for that one. Sorry guys I am out of ideas for a way to bring up the mpg. I've been thinking about a different set of injectors but I dont want to drop 210 bucks and be in the same boat i am now.

I have to jump in the gear swap discussion.

I have a 2002 4X4 QC with the 3.9 v6
I used to have 3.55s and swapped to 4.10s
On the highway if i hit a wind i couldnt use overdrive and on straights it would have the peddle down farther then it would if i kept it out of overdrive.

I used to get 13.2mpg with the 3.55s i now get 13.5mpg and the occassional low 14mpg with the 4.10s. I gained overdrive and sometimes it will take small hills with out a down shift.

Dont feel to bad my lowest recorded was 7mpg with the 3.55s.

I blame my over all poor mpg on the start up cycle being way to rich since it will once in a blue moon flood it self during the cranking cycle and at one point i pulled the plugs to find that a quick turn over would soak the plugs. (injectors are not leaking either)

Just Looking, you definately have some serious issues with that kind of mileage. Other than that maybe QC's just weren't meant to have a v6 in them.

I think my problem is an injector problem for the most part. I just dont have the money to fix it right now, but you definetely have a different problem if you get that. did you try your injector sync? that helps burn the fuel more efficently because it promotes scavenging pulling the fuel mixture into the combustion chamber earlier and keeping it atomized.

Yep i tryed the injector sync. Seen Larrys instructions and followed it then varied left an right after every fill up until i found a position that worked the best an reflected it in mpg numbers.

The truth is my trucks been nothing but a money pit. It had the flooding out problem since brand new. It has gotten better with miles put on it but no one can figure it out other then the pcm is telling it to fire to much fuel at a start cycle and in lower rpms. Dodge played with it under warrenty and made it run worse with some flashes. They even thought it was a good idea to richen the start up mixture more even though it was flooding out. I couldnt get them to remove the flashes either.

It went from spinning the tires to no end in gravel to barely spinning them at all even with the 4.10s. On hot days i can gas it and watch the rpms rise then drop, sputter an gargle then catch and slowly accel up to 2500 rpm after i hit that rpm it rockets off.

I really wish i knew what kind of flashes they did.
I believe something really is wrong with this truck since i have a 460 v8 that gets 13-14 also running with 4.10s in a full size truck

Just Looking, see if you can find another computer for the same year and setup as yours. Swap the computers and see if it makes a difference.

Does your truck run better when it is cold outside or from a cold start and then get worse as it warms up?

Yes and yes.
When its cold an i tromp it, it rockets off.
Yet when it gets warmed up and is hot outside it looses half its power.

Ive replaced: pre-O2, map, an tps.
I used to have an iat adjuster but it had no effect on the condition.

Ill see what i can do about a computer. My area has almost no dakotas so it will be a challenge to say the least.

Runs good cold, which it would do in open loop. Runs poorly when it warms up, gets poor gas mileage, which it might do if it never gets into closed loop.

An IAT adjuster would make that situation worse if used to make the computer think it is colder than it really is. Turning it in the opposite direct could actually help put it into closed loop.

I dont use the iat adjuster anymore since it was annoying adjusting it all the time.
So im still going off of the one in the manifold and thats reading 100+F most of the time.

Unless theres a way for the engine temp sensor to be dead yet the gauge show proper temp without triping a code. Ive only found one engine temp sensor so i assume its working.

Ill be out of town for a week but hopefully i can put this problem to a rest when i check back here. Thanks in advance :)

I had a similar problem with my 99 cc 3.9. The truck wouldnt run in open loop but unless you held you foot on the accelerator and kept the idle up sounds wierd but it was the coolant temp sensor. I replaced it and NO problems since. I thought at first that it would have had to be the TPS but the computer reads the TPS all the time in closed loop and open loop. Just a thought. The sensor MAY be available at NAPA, I got it from the dealership. Here is a hint, if you go through the dealership you can tell them the part is for re-sale and they have to sell it to you at wholesale. GOOD LUCK!

I believe there are three temp sensors, one on the intake, one on the coolant and one on the transmission. All three have to be working correctly in order for the PCM to go into closed loop.

Ill have to take a look at the tranny temp sensor...

I do get this occassional lope at idle that happens after i let it idle for a bit when i first start it.
When i was out of town i went through 3in of water at crawl speeds. I encountered a similar lopey idle that went lower and lower and when i gave it gas it poped in the intake like mad and rpms wouldnt rise. Yet when i floored it it ran fine then id let it idle and it would occassionaly get low enough to stall. I restart it and it would run fine for a little then do it all over again restart etc...(thats how i limped it home) I know its not water being sucked up into the engine since filter and all of the upper engine compartment was dry.
The fact it ran great when i floored it and when i restarted it is enough for me to think i have something going out.

My question is why didnt i get these codes under my warrenty!!!

Actually what could be the cause of this so i may repair it?
Thanks
