i remember reading an article in Fast Fords magazine... they compared a 2002 SS to a 2003 Cobra. Not a bad comparison really. With the editors of the Ford magazine running the cars... the Cobra only beat the SS by like 2 tenths in the 1/4, less than 1 tenth in the road course and the SS stopped faster than the Cobra. Now compare the 325 hp output to the 390 and you think the Cobra would be just whoppin' the crap out of it.

now price tags...

SS = $25k to $27K
Cobra = $35K plus dealer mark up

They even said how much they like the SS and had a full page of gripe about the Cobra. It was a fun article to read. I think i bought the magazine and will look for it.

it's kinda amusing how you guys can say that Cobras are putting a whoopin' on the vipers and such... not stock they are.

It doesnt take a genious to make a car go fast... simple. Do as my brother did, by a GenII camaro for $800... invest about $4000 in the engine and run 11's at the track.

Sure the Viper will stomp cobras all day long but who the hell can afford one. It pisses me off that dodge can't create an affordable muscle car to compete with the stang.

i wish i could afford one, know a few people with em,and ive ridden in one.definately the coolest f@cking thing ive ever cruised in!kinda curious about it,what did they make the viper to compete with?it seems to me that vettes just "caught up" with it a few years ago,so its always sat between a corvette and maybe ferarris?and youre right, they are too expensive.are there any cars in its price range to compete with it?

oh and great article in carcraft or hotrod, they compared the 2004 mustang cobra to the 2004 subaru wrx STI,and the STI edged the cobra in damn near every category, and from what i find on dealer sites, the cost an average of 6k less.i know its taboo to want a "euro",but i think id rather have one of those.they arent the prettiest things in the world but i think theres alot more potential in one of those, than the baddazz cobra.

Again, what does Dodge have to compete with the Cobra? We are not talking about exotics in this discussion but we are talking about an affordable performing car to run with the Cobra. Dodge has nothing to fit that bill.

I also read the issue where the STI vs the Cobra. What is failed to be mentioned is that while the et's were nearly identical, the trap speeds showed the Cobra was having problems hooking up and it also showed it would stomp a mud hole in just about anything with that speed. For the performance of this car coupled with its price, it does have alot of bang for the buck.

geez... not every car company tries to compete in every market!

Vipers are not exotic. The mustang GT500 or whatever it is called is an exotic. Ford doesnt have anything to compete with the viper and dodge doesnt have anything to compete with the cobra... big frokin' deal.

Ford doesnt have anything to compete with the Dodge Caravan also.. its the number one selling minivan. Ford doesnt have a midsized truck to compete with the Dakota. Dodge doesnt have a a mini truck to compete with the ranger. Ford doesnt have any compact sedan to compete with the SRT-4... you catchin' on yet?

and in the end... chevy is killin' everyone in the SUV market.

and what do you drive tom47?a v6 dak you think is fast?or a 4.7 or 5.2 slt with penis envy that you think will "smoke" R/Ts because you have a k&n and a muffler?and i know im gonna catch crap for sayin that, but i have a slightly modded R/T and i havent been impressed with any daks ive raced, thats just been my experience,so please no bitchin from you 4.7 boys!

and im only curious if there is any car, foreign or domestic that has a car in the vipers price range that has roughly the same performance.and in the end,the car market is just a big competition.usually, every car maker has an answer to another carmakers product, even if it isnt as good.ford has been selling vans, they just arent good.and the viper was obviosly made to target one market or the other, which one is it?it has to have some sort of competition somewhere!

But Trucks also have traction Problems...

It's not a car, I know. That's even more a reason that the Cobra is a POS. What's a Cobra cost? $35,000 to $40,000? SRT-10 cost $40-45,000.00. COBRA LOOSES!!!

People, lets be realistic. A s/c Cobra will be the victor when racing the almighty SRT-10 provided the Ford driver has some skill. The hp and trq figures are rather conservatively rated and it has a substantial weight advantage over the truck. It takes more than putting a Viper engine into the engine bay of the truck to make it a super performing truck. It won't run with Cobras or ZO6s unless a total tool is in the drivers seat. Have all the blinded brand loyalty you want but lets keep some sense.

A Cobra beating a SRT-10 Viper? You have got to be kidding!!

Lets see....
The Viper weighs 3300lbs and has 500hp and 505ft/lbs of torque with tires 14"wide and the Viper has 51% of its weight on the rear wheels.

The Cobra weighs about 3300lbs. It has about 400hp
(Lightning Engine). Only has 11" wide tires in the back and only 45% of it's weight over the rear axle.

Sorry Ford Loyalist, but there is no way a Cobra will beat a Viper SRT-10. I believe the SRT-10 Viper was named the quickest American car ever manufactured and now the SRT-10 Ram has been named the quickest truck ever manufactured. The SRT-10 RAM would beat a Cobra.

Powere to weight ratios:
Viper..........6.6lbs/hp
Cobra Mustang..8.7lbs/hp
SRT-10 Ram.....8.8lbs/hp

The Cobra now has the Lightning engine? When did this happen? Overnight?

If I missed it, I doubt anyone said stock for stock that a Cobra would beat a Viper. Lightly modded versus stock is more like it. Now to top it off, a s/c Cobra can't even beat a SRT-10? It seems as if the comedy will never end!
