Oh yeah check this out, I have a 99 Dakota SLT 3.9 5 -Speed that I bought with 3 miles on it in April of 1999. As of today I have 127,739 miles on it. All I have replaced was the water pump, hoses and belt. Of course I’ve done the tune-ups and oil changes and the preventive maintenance. Clutch still has a lot left on it too.

I have a 95 3.9L v6 with 156,000 miles on it. I had some overheating problems when I first bought it about 6 months ago, but that was it. So far, so good.

On average, that good ole 3.9 will run 200k without any major work. Best I've seen was a 95 with a 3.9 that had 320,000 on it and it still started up and ran like the day it rolled off the factory.

That 3.9, along with the 5.9 are some of the BEST engines ever made by chrysler when put into term of longevity.

Mr. Sleepy:

Why did u not include the 5.2 in this? 3.9/5.2/5.9 all the same motor. I believe the 3.9 was created from the 360 if I remember correctly. However the 3.9 has same amount as cubes per cylindar as the 318, just under 40:

6 x 40 = 240 (239ci)
8 x 40 = 320 (318ci)

I got yall beat by country mile my old 88 Dakota had 400,000 last may when she regretfully had to go to the bone yard.Yeh some minor stuff had been replaced but other than the frame rails being held together with channel iron and a few very long bolts that old 4x4 3.9 stick still ran like a champ. That,s back when they were TRUCKS not cars jacked up to look like trucks. Oh one more thing it still managed to pull my 92 toyota 4-runner 10 miles new england hills and all after the stock clutch let go. OLD MOPARS RULE
