2001 S-10 ZR2 4X4, JBA, High flow stainless cat,Raven 2.5 Duals with split O2 sensors, Granetteli MAF, airaid intake, 58mm throttle body,TBA 1 inch intake spacer, 8% underdrive pulleys, heads decked, polished, ported and flow benched by RCR racing, stock 3:73 front /rear diff, re-mapped shift points and rpm limiter, accel digital high fire ignition and coil with hypertech chip for fuel mapping and air mixture...
all for about 7500.00 less than the 2002 R/T extra cab I had purchased......but it would STILL hold its own against any STOCK R/T or moderately modified Dakata or durango...BEFORE it was modified...objectively the dodge V-8 is underpwered and seriously lacking in performance..as car and driver shows as well as road and track, the R/T is WAY overpriced and UNDER performing...it is still the prettiest truck rolling off any assembly line anywhere...even if my wife did pick the PURPLE color scheme...My S10 is a "work truck" that I modified since it was cheaper than building a Custom harley.....still get better MPG than my stock r/t...with the ladder rack and tol boxes full........

NO lets do the math........My 2001 ZR2 Listed at 26100.00 , I purchased it at 22500.00, the mods were 5300.00, that equals 27800.00...
my 2002 R/T Dakota ext cab was stickered at:
36900.00 + tax tags, ect, bone stock....i had the mods done after i had about 29000 miles and the dakota had 4500miles... Road and track list the 4.3 Vee at 225 HP at the rear wheels, so does GM...Dodge list on my invoice/window sticker as:
5.9 liter High performance magnum V8 at 250hp, Road and track says it is 234 at the rear wheels with 3:73 gears....and 11/13 mpg highway...the 4.3 gets 17/19 high way the R/T weighs in at 873 pounds heavier than my FOUR WHEEL DRIVE S10.. in the real world I'm lucky to get TEN mpg in the R/T
driving conservatively and until last month it felt sluggish for all the DODGE hype....so in went a Powerdyne 8psi intercooled supercharger and NOW it FINALLY feels and drives like it COST and can eat most street stock rides including stock S10's and ANY stock or modified ford ranger or F series up except for the lightings which here in NC, run in the mid to high FORTIES for new supercharged versions...but with the mods to the S10 it has embarrassed all would be stop light racers, including several R/T's (my own super charged R/T) and my wife was driving the S10...but as for ANY stock dakota with no mods, I have never seen or heard of any strip write ups in any reputable mags for the validity of time cards in the quarter or eighth mile runs that were quicker or faster than the stock s10 4.3 times for the past three years, in fact C/D and R/T as well as hot truck, hot rod, chevy hipo mag and Mopar performance have stated that to get performance from the dakota in any configuration, including 5.9 r/t or "318"it requires CONSIDERABLE modification, available at you MOPAR performance dealers and goes on to list crank, cams intakes injectors, heads, plugs and wires with the part numbers and then it would onty run low tens and high nines when hooked up well....what i can't figure is why dodge screwedwith the 318 motor design..I own a stock 70 'cuda convertible with a 727 torqueflight and 3:73 gears that outweighs my dakota r/t by about 750 pounds and it is insanely, scary, wicked,"get- you-dead" in a hurry quick and fast...it is a show car but still embarrases with awesome consistentcy...even if it is the ugly lime green and white color sceme and it will still make past any gas station without trying to turn in like a bug to a night light.....

um... you must have one hell of a dog of an r/t to be running 14's at 8psi.(i hope you used felpros with new bolts or youll be blowing gaskets left and right at that psi.) with 8psi you should run mid 12's. furthor more i have never had a naturaly asperated or supercharged s10 run with me when i was stock. you must be smokin some good stuff.

Now the R/t will run respectable low tens high nines...RCR did the head work and installed arp racing head bolts and it runs fine...it was A HELL of alot of money for the go fast to be where it should have before the mods to the r/t...this has never been an emotional thing for me...I just like speed, and the fact are for alot less money you can go alot faster with th 4.3...if any one could PROVE different like say a legit article from a mag or auto /truck show where a stock dakota run a stock s10, or stock R/T runs a stock syclone/typhoon and beats it...with equally qualified professional drivers I would be impressed, but I made the mistake of believing the hype instead of checking the facts.....so I spent 36 grand for a very pretty but disapointing perfomer

I think your propensity for hyperbole is comendable; "Road and track list the 4.3 Vee at 225 HP at the rear wheels, so does GM." That would be 190 at the crank.
R/t's don't come with 3.73 gears.
Stock rc 2wd 4.3 S-10's run low 16's, Although they do show considerable improvemrnt with mods. Conservatively, R/T's run low 15's.
...soo I think you better run along your Cap'n Crunch is getting soggy.

NO offense but you are a complete idiot to spend 37,000 on an R/T. I would definitly buy a lightning over an R/T at that price!( I am Dodge fan don't get me wrong!) If you are in the midwest I would be more than happy to run your "Modded" S-10 I will eat it up and spit it out.

36 grand for a R/T huh. Maybe you have more money then brains. No a s10 extreme or regular 4.3 will not outrun a stock 4.7 for all I know. I doubt it will out run a 5.9 either. Also if your complaining that your running 11's with a truck that's pretty damn fast pal. The lightening runs like mid 12's right?

Weird... The son wouldn't know the difference between the trucks if they ran over him, and yet, he knows so much about mods!!!
I think somebody realized they made a big mistake (first by paying too much for the truck, second by talking without knowledge) and now is trying to save face...
Just my 3 cents...

you boy's ain't talking about a fair fight. Why don't you put one of those pissy 3.9 against the 4.3? You all need to get some real power under you and get you a V-8 S-10.Mine runs 8.38 in the quarter and is street legal(barely). But if you want to find out for your self come on down to NC and look at my tail lights there very pretty. And for you 1/8 mile guys I'm turning 5.14,But those Dakota's are pretty good, I ate one yesterday.
