Wow, I get that good of mileage with my a/c hooked up and running. Your throttle body spacer isn't doing you a damnn bit of good. You would have gotten better mileage putting that money in you gas tank.

There's only one sure way to increase MPG.

Watch your heavy foot on the throttle!!!

Other than that, I'm not sure why someone would buy a truck, knowing the mileage, then bother with things like TB spacers for magical mileage improvements. Of course you should keep things tuned up and what not, tire pressure, etc.
But forget them Spacers, Tornado's, etc!

01, how do you figure that? if your talking about the brake booster, there should be a check valve in there to keep vacuum under acceleration or WOT. just curious.

I agree partly; GraphiteDak,

The throttle body spacers are useless on fuel injected cars.

However, when I bought my truck in October of 2004, gas was a dollar or more cheaper per gallon than it is now!!!!!

I can still afford for the most part to put gas in the truck, but the oil companies are making record profits right now and I don't like to be a customer of theres unless I absolutely must. I heard on the news the other day that the four largest oil companies here in the USA made over 33 billion dollars in profit, and guess what, that was just in the first quarter of this year!!!!!! The freaking CEO of Exxon/Mobil, pulled in a cool 300 million dollars last year in pay.

And beyond that, I've always liked to tinker with my vehicles to make them the most efficient. Some people want to go fast; well, I want to see how far I can go on one tank of gas. I know it would be cool and everything to be able to say that I have a 10 second Dakota, but I'd rather be saying that I've got a V8 Dakota that gets 20 miles per gallon in the city.

I know it does cost money and in the overall scheme of things, the money I save on gas will almost never pay for whatever gas mileage mods I do, but it is fun.

And I was just ecstatic when I topped off the truck with gas this morning,my 60 dollar air cleaner modification gave me one full mile per gallon in city driving.

I just did a little calculating...

Going on if I were to start filling up at 250 miles, that extra 1mpg will save me $2.80 per fillup. Going from the current price of gas at
$2.69 a gallon US.

lol and further on, I actually will have that air cleaner mod paid for in less than a year.

A full header back custom exhaust is next with a three inch catalytic converter and equally large piping. I feel I can safely estimate around onne point five to two more miles per gallon off that mod. I hope so anyway.

I love hearing the fairytales about huge oil profits and how much CEO's make.

"The freaking CEO of Exxon/Mobil, pulled in a cool 300 million dollars last year in pay."

In 2004, Lee R. Raymond raked in $38,076,382 in total compensation including stock option grants from Exxon Mobil Corp. This is about one third the amount that Yahoo CEO, Terry S. Semel, raked in last year.

One is a CEO of a company producing nothing and the other a CEO of a company producing a product you can't live without. Now who is gouging who here? I guess talk show host was just a bit loose with the decimal place.

Last month Exxon had a whopping 10.01% profit margin. Personally, I like to see a 15% profit margin. Revenues, not profit, not even gross profit was less than 300B for the year.

Oil company execs are screwing their stockholders for sure, but until recently the price of oil and gas has had little effect on consumption and vehicle purchasing decisions. It's true that gas is a necessity for many people, but there are choices involved in how much we consume. Cheap gas is not a God-given right that we are automatically entitled to. Prices are free market, supply/demand driven.
If you haul stuff for a living then you have a right to complain, but blame the consumer driving a truck only because it looks cool, not the corporation that's legally maximizing their profits, because guess what? - that's what big corporations do.

I hate to post this, but I'm goona anyway. Why do people by trucks, with V8's, and then want to know how to get better gas mileage? You bought a truck, not a hybrid toyota echo. I get it all the time (and now more than ever with the new gas prices) when people ask me what I drive and I tell them a Dakota with a 4.7L V8 they start ranting on and on about the gas and how its a pig and I must be broke and blah blah blah...if gas were 5 cents a gallon you'd be getting these mods for other reasons. Drive your truck and drive it fast, cuz when your smilin' who gives a $hit how much it costs....

Hey Travis_22,

Somehow, somewhere, someone will read your post and accuse you of beating baby seals. Just watch.

Good post though, I agree. I have a v-8, I know the mileage is not like a little 4 banger, and if I can't afford to put gas in it, I'm to blame. But I'm not paying companies to haul stuff that I purchase, i.e., mulch, appliances, firewood, etc. Plus it's great for putting the cooler, grill and bikes in when going to the park with the kids. And...(you'll like this one) it's great for putting a plastic tarp in, filling with water and holding a wet t-shirt contest while tailgaiting at a college football game. Yep, I'm a stupid owner of a big engine truck.

Everyone is different. I bought my truck new in 1992. Gas was cheap even back then. With gas prices having risen about $1/gal over the last year, it is starting to hit a lot of people in the wallet. Times change, and people have to adapt. Having to pay double or even 1/3 more for gas than you used to can make it difficult for a lot of people.

Yeah Sneezer you're right but I hate when people get on my a$s just because I own a 4.7/V-8. I too bought it when gas was cheaper. People who say we are using more fuel and that's the reason the price is so high aren't looking at it realistically. The demand for gas has always been high. The price is going thru the roof because oil companies are using any disaster and the war as their excuses. No war and no natural disasters and the price would not have increased so much.

Now I will say this. Anyone driving a Hummer as their everyday vehicle are just doing it for status, unless you are in the military. You agree?

Oh, why didn't you say so. I'm sure he is a lot more accurate than the information that Exxon files with the SEC. I guess even the WSJ could learn something from Billy Boy.

Study this and see if it agrees with what Billy Boy said.

Gentz, I had to join Dak crew. I bought the 05 Dak Quad Cab, 6 speed, V8. When I bought it I was getting, off the lot, 15MPG. 5000 miles later I average 12.2 MPG on highway AND in the city. I don't punch it if I dont have to. I took it into a Dodge Dealer and they tell me "It's normal". Are they right?
