Does anybody on the board have any experience with the Raven exhaust from Midas? How does it compare with the other aftermarket cat-backs etc.
Any info appreciated,

I have a Ravin' on my 99 5.2L V8, and I think it sounds great compared to the Flowmasters and other exhaust products.

Plus, Midas gives you a "lifetime" warranty as well... which to me was important since I plan on keepin' my truck for a long, long time.

However, I don't really know what they would sound like on V6. But on my V8 it is nice and throaty... really mean sounding! (I'm sure my neighbors really love me too!)

Anyways, I like the Ravin', however I can't vouch for what it will be like on a V6.

a friend of mine has raven on his F-150 ( i wont get into the merits, or lack thereof as far as fords go) and to be honest it sounds awesome. and it did a lot for the performance (power and mileage) of his truck. he is very happy with it as far as i know. how expensive is it looking anyway (if you dont mind my asking), ill ask what he spent.

good luck

Hey Trip...

Another benefit of letting Midas do this is that aside from having the "lifetime guarantee", they will make sure that it is installed correctly...without any rattles or "unusual" noise.

I had them install dual outs on my Dak, and they actually welded the pipes together versus just clamping them. They also installed reinforcement straps to my pipes and they don't move or wiggle at all... rock solid.

Remember... when you buy a Ravin' from Midas, you are also paying for the installation of it as well. Yeah, you can get a decent flowmaster for about $65 but you either have to install it yourself or pay someone to do that for you. W

Where I live, winters are kinda harsh and the salt and chemicals they use on the roads will eat that muffler alive in a few years... Of course since mine is "lifetime guaranteed" all I gotta worry about is paying the labor for having a new one installed.

Just do what you feel is right... Good luck man.

Hey DarkFury,
thanks for the input. I have read a few posts that indicate that the Ravin exhaust performs as well as any of the other aftermarket products. Mostly it appears that it is just more expensive than the others, but if I get a good price on it then all other things being equal I suppose it is a good exhaust. I listened to a Durango RT with the Ravin system and it did sound GOOD on the V8. Thanks again for the advice,
Trip

I had run a Ravin muffler on my truck as a test when they first came out at Midas...no improvement over the Flowmaster I had. Performance vs. the Cost isn't worth it.

Here's some options for you with the Flowmaster:

Flowmaster 50-Series SUV: 525552 (2.5" IN/Dual 2.25"OUT)
Flowmaster 50-Series SUV: 52555 (Single 2.5" IN/OUT)
Flowmaster 50-Series Performance: 425502 (2.5" IN/Dual 2.0" OUT)
Flowmaster 40-Series Performance: 42540 (Single 2.5" IN/OUT)
Flowmaster "Delta-Force" Series: 425509 (Single 2.5" IN/OUT)

How is your truck getting called a V-6 a compliment?? I woud be offended if someone said my truck sounded like a V-6. Or a Ferrari with half the cylinders. Not a very good way to promote Flowmaster. I prefer Spintech, but that's what I have so of course I'm goint o like it.

Ok then... if you were drunk (and I TRULY believe that since you compared a Ranger to a Dakota) then I guess I will let this one go. Peace.

My preference is Flowmaster, been using their exhaust for over 10 years and 7 vehicles(Changed what I was driving like my shorts... until I bought my first Dakota, but that is another story). I have been nothing but happy with the reliability, peformance and better than factory fit of their American Designed and Manufactured exhaust. I know nothing of Raven, but if it sounds like Flowmaster as Bernd said and is made from stainless not that aluminized crap with proven Dyno results, then thumbs up! I will not put down any product I have not tried myself just because of my product preference. FLOWMASTER=:)

Andrew, I know Bernd, and I know he knows a lot, but not all about these trucks. I own a 5.9, so I know what my truck can do, and what I need to do to get the performance out of it. He owns a 3.9 V-6, and has gotten his to run good. No, I havn't been on this list long, but have had my R/T long enough, and been on a few other board long enough to know what MY truck can do. Even after his V-6 get's "revamped" I won't be skeered at all, because I will be running low 13's at least. And I will have a lot less oney into my engine, and my reliability will be better cause I won't be tryin to force as much performance out of my engine as he is with ihs V-6. And I have learned never to argue with Bernd, not because he knows his shyte, but because he doesn't want to hear that someone else might have a different opinion, that works just as good if not better, than his on the performance of the Dakota.

You think that the V6's is all I know? I mainly deal with the 5.2/5.9L crowd. Cost wise, the modifications to the V6 are identical in price to the 5.2/5.9L as the parts are the same. (Internal parts being identical to the 5.2L.)

If someone installs the same (or close to same) modifications on their V8 as I did on the V6, cost is the same but the performance level...well, I increased the times on my truck from a factory 17.4 to a 14.9. Just think what that would do to a factory 15.5-15.8 second R/T! (And the only thing you'd have to do is change the head gaskets and factory head bolts on the 5.2/5.9L to handle the higher boost pressure.)

Yeah, everyone has their own opinions and I'll never claim to be a "guru" or "know everything". There's always room to learn more on these trucks...and there's always someone faster than you. :)
