If you know the answer then go ahead answer. You just came across very strong and seemed to home in on Bernd (very popular guy as you can tell). The V-6 is virtually the same as the v-8, same head flow ratings and intake and exhaust port size as well as intake design. Just like a smaller clone. V-6 or V-8 they pretty much respond the same as for mods.

Eric: My exhaust has a single side exit mandral bent 3" tail pipe and I think 50 series flowmaster muffler. It is pretty quiet but deep and throaty, very nice mellow tone I think. It is the system off of my 97' 4x4 only needed a 5" extension to fit. Brand new muffler and tail pipe off the truck sitting in my back yard.

You have to come across strong otherwise people will try to walk all over you. Just wanted to point out that Bernd doesn't know all, and it all started with a littel ribbing back and forth between me and Bernd that someone else commented on, and blew up from there.

Well, Chicago Joe, I'm glad you spoke up with your wise mature words of wisdom, and I'm sure the rest of the members of this boar thank you and appreciate you eloquent way with words!! You can place all the money you want on Bernds truck, but that won't make it faster then mine. I sense a little jealosy in a displacement challenged Dakota owner. I've contributed a lot of productive information in the short time I've been posting on this list. A lot more than I have ever seen you post. So go back to lurking and soaking up others knowledge until you have something productive to contribute other than you masterful grip on the English laguage.

Whoa people...while I appreciate the comments, it's not necessary to go after HSKR on this. I have no problems with him and he has posted a few tips as well.

Yes, I drive a V6 but most V8 owners underestimate them. Just remember, on the street or on the track..."run what ya brung". ;)

Just remember guys that this all started with playful ribbing between the two. HSKR didnt come to this post to be an antagonist. You guys provoked him. Yes Bernd is great at what he does and he deserves our respect but im sure he'll even tell you that theres no need to be bowing at his feet. Happy Thanksgiving Guys.

I thought it all started with a simple post about a Ravin exhaust that I did not even know how to spell correctly? Good thing nobody challenged me on that...

Well yes it ALL started with your post about the exhaust but that was lost long ago and it became childsplay thereafter. I hope you find what youre looking for. I have a flowmaster delta flow 50 series on my V6. It sounds good on acceleration but at cruising it just sounds like i need a new muffler. Not a good tone.

It appears that Ravin lists only a 3" in/out for my 3.9 V6. Of all the posts I have read a 2.5" in/out is the best for performance. Is this indeed the case and if so does anyone know what 2.5" Ravin muffler to use? Furthermore, I am being told that the Z33 (which is the small muffler) is the best for the 3.9; at least in a 3" system application. Ravin seems to show the Z55 or Z77 as being for most trucks...the delimma continues. So if anyone (Bernd) has any specific Ravin info for me that would be cool. By the way I am doing a trade-out for the muffler and install so it is not really costing me any $ for the upgrade.

You can use whichever Ravin you want... they all have the same "flow rating", however the difference as I was told by the Midas rep I worked with that the main difference was the fact that the Z33 was "loud", the Z55 was "medium" and the Z77 was "quiet".

You just have to decide which one has the "sound" that you like.

That is pretty much what I thought. My main concern is that I get the best diameter pipe on the back end of the system. I have been directed to put an expansion to a 3" pipe on the intake side and then continue out back with 3". Is this the "best" setup for "Street" performance? (ie not just higher RPM etc.) I have been led to believe from this site that a 2.5" system is the best all-around and I do not want to sacrifice mid-range for top-end.

I just thought I owed the group a follow-up to this thread...
I have a friend that runs the local Midas and he installed a Z-55 Ravin muffler on my stock pipe. It is a 2.5" in/out. So far I am very pleased with the sound, which is pretty mellow, but with just enough grunt to let you know it is not at all stock. More importantly it has seemed to smooth the power delivery most of the way through the power band and by seat of the pants it feels a bit stronger. Mind you I do not have an intake system yet, so I know that will help. I suppose I am going in reverse but what the hell. I cannot comment on price since I chose this exhaust due to my "connection." ( I traded a $200 motorcycle helmet for said muffler, installation of same, rotation, oil & filter change, brake bleed and refil, and general inspection plus home pick-up and delivery!) Otherwise I would recommend it to anyone interested. ;)

Hee hee... "lifetime" is a pretty long time by my standards.

I drive em till the "dayuum doors fall off"... and when the muffler falls off, I'll be up in there askin' for a new one. LOL.

Now for some shocks... I gotta bounce. :)
