I think EFI started in 1990. I cant find that documented in my stuff right now but I will check on it. My truck is a 90 and it has EFI stuff all over it.

All '87 Dakotas had a carb, There is no such thing as an '86 Dakota, '88 - 91 are TBI (non Magnum) '92 and up are Magnum SMPI engines

OK, My 1990 V6 Dak. Non mag 2wd. On my throttle body, how many injectors do I have? Some people say 6, 1 for each cylinder or 2 injectors/ both in TB. Whats the deal?

You have 2 injectors sitting on top of your carb. If you start the engine, take off the air intake box, you can watch the injectors spraying fuel into the intake manifold right before your eyes.

If you take off the throttle body, you will be left with the intake manifold only - in other words, no fuel injection to spray. Just remove your air intake box if stock, or your whole air intake. Takes about 30 seconds. Then start the truck and you can watch the injectors spraying. I have replaced my injectors more than once, takes about 5 minutes. They are easy to find, and easy to maintenance.

TigerDak, I have been told to buy injectors that have a larger opening and flow to get more fuel into the air that is injested. This person said that with my K&N intake/headers/free exhaust, my engine is running lean of fuel. I have been told to increase from 55pph to 65pph injectors which were in the V8s. Where can I get these? And how much? I thought about going to a junk yard and getting a set from a late 80 early 90s TB Dodge truck. Cleaning them and using em. But it might be better to just buy new. Thanks for the advice and help.

I have heard of guys going to junkyards and finding a Gen I 5.2L or maybe a Gen II also??? I would just go that route first, see if they even fit and work, before I bought new. If you get a set and they work OK, get them cleaned out and they will work like new, for about half the price. Let me know if you are successful as I'd like to try this too.

Tiger, I am going to Michigan in about 4 days for a month. For some reason, they have tons of junk yards up there where here in Fla, we dont have many. So i am going to do some junken up there for these injectors, some small sport mirrors from GenI daks, and possibly a few other things. So I will get back back to the Fla area about July mid time and tell you how it goes. Thanks for the info. What type of price should I look for in these used injectors? Just for an idea.

Just a question. I have a '92 3.9L Magnum. I love the engine performance and power.
I would like to know if it is possible to switch this over to a carb (get rid of that #%$@ computer). Any suggestions?

And above, a guy said he has an 1986 Dak. No, you bought a new model 1987 Dak in mid 86'. There were no 86' daks.

Hey dude, so whatcha worken on now? That is with your ride? Just curious to know what my fellow Gen I ers are doing. I am about to move for university reasons but recently I have put a night bar on my roll bar with 2 6in & 2 5.5in lights. I also but a new steering wheel in. So are you saying that dodge actually meant to produce a 86 dak but did not go through the proper channels to notify people of it. So to correct it, they have generally spoke of 1987-now as the dak history? Fill me in.

Sorry about the yelling, i have very poor eye sight is why i use capitals... it's very nice there is some gen-1 owners on this sight.. Hi joe, way i understand it RE: 86 daks , i'll try to find info about dodge failure to notify other companies about new model or classification in time for release of new model, I was told this by the salesman when i bought mine in 1986. .

Hey by the way. Some of us Gen I and II guys are trying to get this place called speedhut.com to make some custom gauge faceplates for us. You can have any color, decals, font, indiglo, etc. you want. We need 20 orders and have 5 now. How about it? Im doing it for sure!!! Only 20 Daks in the country will have this custom stuff. I like that!
