Dang! I thought they lasted forever.

Question you should ask: what is the purpose of the truck? That'll help you chose.
Bigger engine is only the start of modificating you will face.
How much can you do yourself?
Can you afford the time to do it yourself?
How long can you do without it?
Etc.

yeah i have no idea how this happened...

i was just driving and came to a stoplight, ran a little rough then stalled out... i tried to start her again and it took a little turning over to get fired up and when it was running it was really rough and shook the truck as if it was only running off a few cylinders then i try again after it shut off and now she's stuck..

i took it to a shop and the mechanic couldnt even turn the engine manually...

the oil was fine

the purpose of the truck is for me (a teenager) to ENJOY and drive around and what not.. ill probably be getting a little 4 cyl. neon for a daily driver so i can do whatever to my dakota and not have to worry about gas mileage.

im going to go with building up the 3.9 and probably gonna have verything by a professional because i sure as hell do not want to have another mishap with my baby! haha and i have another vehicle to use so the time isnt a problem unless were talking months

now i need help with what to buy for the 3.9 build up... i know Larry from J and J auto knows exactly what i need so hopefully he can tell me soon so i can get started

thanks for your help guys!

your oil pump must of stopped picking up oil. did you guys change the oil every 3000miles? were you running it hard right before it died?

{i would go with}
harland sharp 1.6rr and a cam
underdrive pulleys
headers
M1 intake
do some porting on the heads
build up the bottom end

i think i would make it so i could rev the motor up to 6500-7000rpm

if you have the time and funds you could put together a helluva stroker motor like larry of j & j. i think larry's is displacing somewhere aroung 280c.i. talk to the guys at Hughes Engines or KRC and get their input too.

yeah probably toolfan i really dont know, shes sitting at my cousins shop as we speak =/

toolfan - theres an M1 intake for the 3.9??

i was thinking about the stroker but how much more money would that be versus buying a refurbished block from anywhere? or having the crank rebuilt?

yeah i need to do some homework before starting this...

thanks again guys

i think larry mentioned he had about 8g's in his stroker. 300 rwhp though.

there is no M1 for the 3.9.

i saw your post on larry's build up thread. i think he said they were going to try to stay around 1g for that.

200 rwhp is reasonable and will remain very reliable. i know what you mean about the 130rwhp. i've got an '00 QC 3.9 5spd. it's slow but it serves it's purpose. i'm not in to fast trucks. i have seriously considered putting 3.92:1 or 4.10:1 gears but funds do not permit that right now.

Jasper engines lists a remanufactured 3.9L for my '00 at $2345. So for less than 2k I'd be guessing your gonna be rebuilding what you have or finding a junkyard motor.

my bad i was getting a little carried away.

200 at the wheels would probably put you in the 14s or really close to it.

how many miles did you have on the engine?

at least you got the rearend already to go with the 4.10s and a LSD. if you go through with fixing up you truck, don't forget about the trans.
