not that anyone cares, but im passing the slow tourch along.im giving my 2002 r/t up to my dad.

200rwhp on the dyno isnt exciting enough anymore.
15 second quarter miles just dont do the trick.
that top speed of 115mph aint too great either.

its just not worth the money or hassle to make it "fast",so in two weeks im taking delivery on a 2001 6-speed SS camaro.i wish you all luck with your dakotas, and maybe some of you with deep pockets can hang with a STOCK SS,but mine wont be stock anyway.it will be good to get away from having trucks and ricers hound after me.and who cares if they do now, they wont be able to hang with this car like they do with my R/T.its embarassing having high 15sec cars hang at my fender, well, not anymore!!!!!!

I hear you there. I love my r/t, but as soon as I graduate high school, I plan on buying either a Lancer Evo or an LS-1 F-body, I love those things!!!! I test drove a 1998 Z-28 and OH MY GOD!!! Those things are quick!! I'd love to have one, but for now, I'm stuck with my r/t. Oh well, at least I'm not driving some riced out Honda or an old beater Olds Cutlass:)

Hell yeah LS1s are bad ass cars. As long as you dont need a truck. Like for towing/hauling things in the bed. And your insurance is gonna go up a lot also.

Sounds like you have little or no mods to dyno 200hp at the wheels OR something is wrong with it.

my insurance is only going up about $20 a month.and i was being sarcastic about the dyno numbers.i just feel stupid,i paid $17,500 for a mid 15sec truck when i could have found an SS for that and run low 13sec times stock.it would take alot of money to get my R/T down to even hang with an SS.thats what i get for being impatient!the SS was my first choice a year ago,and i settled for second.oh well, you live you learn.

I also paid $17 for my r/t. Ive got it running 13.50s. Not blazing fast but not too bad for having around 3K in mods. Stock cam/heads/bottom and trans.
I know what you mean because Id like a Viper,Cobra,Syclone,Lightning,SRT-10 etc...But I owe less than 8K on the r/t and its fun. The only way to really go fast in an r/t(12s and lower) is to supercharge or stroke it. The biggest problem is the fact that they weigh sooooo damn much for a compact truck. Gotta be the heaviest of all compact trucks...Especially a cc. My r/t with me in it weighs around 3930. I figured that if I could drop the weight down to stang GT weight(about 3400) there would be an easy .5 sec diff in quarter times! Instead of running mid 13s I would be knocking on 12s door. Thats where our problems lie...

I see a recurring problem on here. Do you want a truck which is used for hauling stuff? Or, do you want a sports car which is very fast?

You don't get both in the same vehicle. Period.

ive had both in one before, thought i could again.before the r/t i had a 72 chevy sw that ran mid 12s.i sold the truck because my buddys parents were selling his SS that they bought him,so i sold my truck for it.it was all kinds of badass, but at the bank when he handed the title over to my loan officer she saw that it had a "reconditioned" title so she wouldnt loan on it.i saw this r/t at the local dealership and thought i would try to have another fast truck.my mistake.and mine was about $17,500 including TTL,its a 2002 CC that had only 6200 miles on it.i talked them down from $19,988 on the sticker.i got a good deal.

im just going through the slow process of selling my dads toyota so i can go pick up the SS.

Your saying you had a 72 chevy that ran mid 12s. Which is a stock 16-17 second truck. And you thought you could get it again. Well you can, you just have to spend money to do it just like you did on the 72 chevy.

Yeah I can imagine your dilemma. I dont know what mods you have done but a 2002 cc would be pretty heavy first and second it has what, 3 cats or something? My '99 had 1. If you havent replaced the stock exhuast yet, there is another BIG problem with going faster. Ive heard that a single 3" system works great and is less expensive than others. Go check out www.dakotart.com at Delphi forums and you may want to keep that thing. There are plenty of n/a cc's running 13s and some blowers/strokers running 12s/11s. Good luck!

ok,the chevy, straight bodied good paint good running 402,cost me about $2500.about $3000 later i was running mid 12s,$5500 total, very reliable truck too.if i put $3000 into this $17,500 R/T i will probably run high 13s.its alot cheaper to hot rod old school cars and trucks.the parts for r/ts are especially expensive.and not worth the price.i will be happy to get my SS next week.sure most of the parts are kinda expensive for these, but you realy get what you pay for.

i figure it will cost at least 10k to have an r/t run 12s and still be reliable, not worth it to me.

Well youre probably right about spending $3K and running high 13s(in a cc). And yes buying an older car is usually cheaper along with most(not all) mods. I have a good friend that built his '86 stang GT from 302f.i. to a stroked 408 and after putting about $7-8K in it he now runs low 11sn/a with the stock tremic 5-speed! He paid $6K for it several years ago. So, hes got around $15 total.
But you gotta do what you gotta do and hey, we all are into performance anyway! Im not a close-minded fool that is brand-particular so come back and let me know how it turns out! Is the SS stock?

Yeah, I'm still laughing at all the people that think these things (Dakotas) are race cars. I'm mean com'on 4,000lb race car. Just not realistic to think that it's a good race vehicle.
Sure with a turbo or whatever it will go fast. But, cars are soooo much better vehicles to begin with. Just because they weigh soooo much less. Not to mention the cornering advatage.
Personally, I would not buy a Camaro. They make good race cars and all. But, just not my style.
I'm a big fan of 300ZXTT and Supras for all out performance. But, I love my 280z and am building a turbo engine for it. I just want to do 12s. I'm doing mid to low 14s with the engine I have in there now. It's fun just the way it is. But, you never get tired of more power. Do ya?
Anyway, enjoy your new ride!

I think people are missing the point, if we all just wanted to go fast we would buy supras or corvettes or something along those lines. Guess what numb-nutts some of us actually like trucks and enjoy driving them, whats wrong with wanting the vehicle you enjoy to perform the way you want it. I'm quite sick and tired of pansy a$$es coming on here just to tell us to go buy some stupid camaro.

Here is a brainstorm for you Columbo, if we had wanted camaros we'd have the mind to go and fcking buy a camaro. It's quite obvious from the plethora of posts that there are quite a few people who bought trucks so that they can have fun with them in whatever capacity they choose.

Hey, 00 RT/BC

Not LuvmeR/T nor any other person on this thread has said anything to the effect of you need to go out and buy a camaro, or any other car for that matter. luvmer/t was only telling you and every one else that he is selling his 2002 R/T CC, so he can get an SS. guess what jack he likes his truck to and enjoys driving it thats why he sold it to his dad, that way if hes in the mood for an afternoon in the R/T he can have one.

385CI,
i though you where a chevy guy, why are you talkin sh!t about the LS1/Camaros ? get a clue, i swear you will talk sh!t about anything

Comments like the following cause me to disagree with you.

"I see a recurring problem on here. Do you want a truck which is used for hauling stuff? Or, do you want a sports car which is very fast?

Hello????"

Also I wont quote everything he said but RAMDAKOTA also made it clear that he thought it was foolish to put money into these vehicles.

There are plenty of other threads in the forum that have the same or similar tone. I've just had enough of reading it.

dakotas are nice trucks. but if you are looking for "FAST" they are not the best choice, that said they have plenty of other of high points. in there stock state there great, but when you start adding the money & performance parts to them it hits a point of diminishing returns where it is no longer worth the time or money spent just to be "slightly quick" low 14.s high 13.s

i like the dakota if i were to buy a newer truck it would be a dakota R/T (not to big, no to small) and very sporty, but i, like luvmer/t want (and have) an all out ground pounder able to beat most any challenge that comes in front of us
