Subject: Anyone run a Dynomax Super Turbo??
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 3" in/out UltraFlo 6" round muffler on my 3.9 right now, and it sounds really good, but I get WAY too much interior resonance with it. I am considering getting the Super Turbo and going with a stock size 2.5 pipe. Can anyone tell me how these mufflers resonate inside the cab? Ive done some research, and I know a lot of people on here run the 17748 Dynomax. Any comments, or complaints, about the Super Turbo? Im not looking for something as quiet as stock, but I wouldnt mind something closer to it than the saw mill I currently have to listen to when Im driving above 2000rpm. If youre running one of these mufflers, please leave your opinion!
Thanks guys!

I personally LOVE my DynoMax turbo! Outside it has a nice rumble at idle, subtle, but its there. But on the inside, its VERY close to stock, you can hardly hear it... I too used to run a 9" straight through, what a pain on the highways that was!

Anyways, hope that helps.

the 17748 i had for three days sukced A$$. it made no noise and was almost quieter than stock. i got the flowmaster 40 series and am very happy with it. it makes good noise and is quiet on the highway when it needs to be. overall a good buy and would recommend to anyone wanting to hear there stuff and have it quiet when they want that too. lata

Hmmm... 40 series and quiet NEVER belong in the same sentance! I think its safe to say we all know that.

The Flowmaster 40 DOES make a nice rumble, but it drones like a mofo at highway speeds.

I know a lot of people have brand loyalty on here, but I dont want to hear the "oh just get a flowmaster" line. If you want a flowmaster, go right ahead, but I dont want one. Thats why I went with Dynomax to begin with. Thanks MaDgamEr for the info. Anyone else have anything to say about the Super Turbo?

I had a Super Turbo for about 2 weeks, not loud enough. Tried a 50 series delta flow, as I had heard the same complaint about the 40 series. Again, not loud enough. So I said screw it, bought MBRP ss single in dual out cat back. Awesome sound! Nice rumble at idle, pretty loud in the upper RPM (I have a 5-speed), really quiet at cruising RPM. I have the 4.7 though, listened to a few sound clips before I bought it, not sure how it would sound on a 3.9

Most of you are saying that its too quiet. To me, thats not a complaint! The UltraFlo is TOO loud. If you want loud, I recommend it. Any other complaints though about the Super Turbo? Does it resonate a lot? Thanks for the replys!

like i said before you can't hear it in the cab if you want something the person next to you might be able to hear go with the super turbo if not go with the flow

personaly i like the ultra flow 6". Thats what i run, but i guess that im still young enough where i dont mind the rumble. There is also the intemidation factor that comes with these mufflers under hard acceleration. i love it- have you looked into spintech? I hear of a lot guys runin these, never heard them though

I have the super turbo on my dodge van, 3in in and out. I seems louder at idle then quiets down as rpm's get higher. at cruise it is noticable but not loud at all. Unless you go in a tunnel or over pass then it rumbles. great medium noise muffler.

I have a 2.5" in/out 17748 on my 4.7 QC. Slightly louder than stock, but by no means obnoxious. You always know it's there, but you don't have a headache after driving 12 hours. I don't have any cab resonance. A V-6 might sound a bit different than a V-8, though.

Exocet, it sounds about the same in my 5.2. You know its there, but you can also drive 8+ hrs on the highway with no headaches.

I bought and installed the Dynomax Super Turbo today. 2.5" in\out, ran a new 2.5 tail pipe. Really quieter than the 3" UltraFlo, but it still lets you know its there. It in no way resonates like the UltraFlo, and sound quite a bit deeper. It still sounds great at idle, and its very quiet while driving. Some people say they are too quiet, but you can hear it no matter what RPM youre turning. If youre questioning how loud you want the exhaust, and worried about how loud it will be in the cab, I recommend the Super Turbo. I believe Im the only one on here that has run both on their truck, so take my word that the Super Turbo is a lot quieter. I have tons of torque back, as compared to the UltraFlo. There again, I wouldnt recommend the UltraFlo unless you want it REALLY loud.

i dont think u lost the tq beucase of the ultra flow, i think its cuz u ran a 3 inch on your truck. i have ran 4 diffrent types of exhaust on my 3.9. no muffler, flowmaster 40 series 2 inch, 40 sereis 2 1/2 inch, dynomax super turbo. im about to swap over to a bigger exhaust tho, 3 inch for myself in hopes that all my mods will make up for the lowend loss. ill b testing 2 new mufflers, hooker aerochamber and a flowmaster single chamber. let ya know how it goes. and my superturbo droned just as much as my flowmaster..could have been the turn down tho

Hey Cyalume I'm almost in the same situation you were. Part of
that resonance problem was the 3" pipe running off the back of
the cat, I'm sure the muffler wasn't helping you any either. In
my case I'm running an old 9" length flowmaster with a 3" and it
resonates pretty bad on the highway. Glad to see someone else
out there buys something other than blowmaster. I just picked
up a Dynomax with a 2 1/2" offset in and 2 1/2" center out
Super Turbo, I'll be replacing my intermediary pipe for a smaller
size also and am looking forward to some more quiet in the cab.

When I had my high flow cat put on, I had him run a 2.5" from the cat all the way to the muffler, then I used a short adapter to pipe into the 3" muffler. It didnt help me much at all for the noise, and in fact, the high flow cat made it even louder. Just proves that the high flow cat works I guess. Anyway, youll be very happy with that new muffler.

I was thinkin about runnin the whole Dynomax Super Turbo cat-back system on my 4.7, it sounded deep on their site but not too loud and obnoxious. I also saw that Dynomax has a high flow cat, anyone used that at all?

i am running a dynomax ultra flo welded muffler on my stock exhaust in my 04. there is no better sound than at idle, sounds beautiful. the only problem is droning at highway speeds. horrible!! kinda have regrets now.also it feels like it kinda loses a little bit of low end torque now but i cant prove that.

Thats the exact same problem I had, and it got to where I just couldnt take it anymore. As for the high flow cat, Im using a Magnaflow, which is the same as the Carsound. I couldnt be happier, and it didnt throw a code. Of course, neither did a gutted cat. Who knows. Anyway, youll like the high flow cat on top of the exhaust. Putting a better muffler with the stock cat wont help that much, since the stock cat flows horrible. Besides, the stock cat will just fall apart after a few thousand miles anyway, might as well get a better one. Check eBay for the high flow cats, you can get good deals on them. Thats where I bought mine from, and I have no complaints.
