My cat back is louder than an R/T's stock exaust BHRT and with cleared off decals they know I am game. Don't forget also that the 250 HP R/T is with an allready better flowing exaust than a stock 4.7 Sport. With my only mod so far being a 3" custom cat the HP is probably very close now and I still maintain the weight advantage. I am not going to do this B.S debate anyomre I know what I have and have little fear of any stock or near stock R/T.

OK, Now lets be honest. I own a 00 4.7L cc auto.

My entire reason for my interest in the Dakota was because one day, my younger brother called me while I was still away @ college and said "wait until you see the new Dakota r/t". With great excitement, he proceeded to tell me all he had heard and seen on the r/t. I was very interested to see what this truck looked and performed like. To my great pleasure, it was mean and tough looking, with those 17x9's and rumbling (stock) exhaust but to my disappointment, (after many test runs) the truck did not live up to the 5.9 pasted so nicely on the side.

Once I had heard about this new 4.7L V8, that may be coming out in the Dakota’s, my interest was immediately evoked. What more to ask for, a V8 with almost the same hp as the 5.9 less the crap fuel econ (my best 18Mpg city 22mpg hwy). Plus the difference in hp won't make any difference. There has also been some talk about torque in the r/t; I don't know what the hell you r/t'ers care about torque when all you can tow is your mothers’ groceries (200lb as opposed to 6700lb).

To sum it up, the r/t looks the best but with it's out dated engine, it's time to put it to rest.

If you r/t'ers are arguing on who is faster (stock), go to www.trucktrend.com and check out what they say about the 300lb heavier 4.7L quad cab, beating the 5.9L in the 0-60. I rest my case.

p.s
With all the hype the 5.9 produces, it is embarrassing when compared to a real sport truck like the Lightening (and I hate FORD with a passion).

I'd rather have my 5 speed 4.7 3.92 LS for light to light and long haul. I don't agree with KIPP that the 5.9 R/T's lack of torque is why it can only tow 1/3 rd the weight of the Sport however. I think he's just joking. It's because the R/T's suspention wasn't desingned for use as a pratical truck. The 5.9 if in a Sport should be able pull a more weight than a 4.7 OHC. It's a very powerfull engine just no really designed (as a stock engine) for quick acceleration down the track or highway like the 4.7 is.

I just bought a 2001 Dak CC 4X4 4.7, Definitely a BIG improvement in power from my 98 Dak CC 4X4 3.9. My uncle has a 99 CC R/T and there are two entirely different feels between my new truck and his. His R/T feels like it is kicking a**, and my truck just feels like it is pulling real strong. I like his R/T for the feel of in the seat acceleration, but I like my 4.7 because it just feels stronger overall.

just some food for thought. i just took the regular fan off of 2001 dak and hard wired the electric ac fan the comes on strictly for the ac. i gained roughly 10-15 hp just from that and i wired the fan directly to my ignition so that the fan comes on all the time. it cools my truck better than the clutch fan and the ac fan ever did. i also compared the cfm to my buddies perma cool that flowed 2950 cfm and my stock electric fan had every bit as much power. just thought that i would let you all know of my adventures.

I did a test at the drag strip by removing the fan on my truck. I've repeated the test on 3 different occasions and came up with the same answer each time. Running the belt driven fan costs exactly .05 of a second, or roughly 5 horsepower. I sure wish it was 10-15 hp! The fan may actually cost 10-15 hp if the viscous part is engaged, but since it generally just freewheels, it's not really costing all that much.

Forget the 5.9, it's soon to be history. Just wait till the 350hp and over 400 lbs./Ft. of torque of a 5.7 Hemi is offered in a R/T. Now thats some thing to talk about. Why are you all bashing Mopar engines, we're all in the same boat.

If you want an easy to work on engine, the 5.9L is the one. Less complicated parts to upgrade, less parts to break, long run history, more cubes to work with. I wouldn't take just one article from trucktrend.com to be the bible of reviews.

There are too many variances to compare the SLT 4.7L to the R/T. They where not tested at the same time, was the same gas used, was the correct gas used, was the weather the same or the location, same diver, how many miles did the SLT have vs the R/T? Etc. There is always some irregularly fast trucks out of the bunch and there are sure some dog slow ones too!

The new Hemi will not have over 400lb's of Torque. 354 Horsepower and 354 ft lb's are the numbers. The Hemi really doesn't offer much torque gain over the 5.9L. Of course WHY would you need more torque than that motor has? The reason the Hemi will be so bad is because it has more ponies than the LS-1 Vette engine. Even with the Hemi Dodge will have to tinker a little more with the R/T to get it to hang with the Lightning. The new 2001 Lightning put down 340 rwhp STOCK. If you use the conventional 20% drivetrain lose theory then the Lightning is STILL underrated and should be around the 400 h.p mark at the crank. The Lightning is also setup to run with it's 18's and good suspension. The R/T's suspension is ok but the 255/55/17's won't cut it. The R/T will definitly drop in the 5's 0-60 and will be in the 13's in the 1/4. But the 2001 Lightning pulled a 5.1 0-60 and can pull a 13.5 in the 1/4. I just don't know if the R/T can do that. I guess It mainly depends on it the Hemi's turn out to be underated. The R/T does have one thing heavily in it's favor though. An RC r/t Weighs a good 700-800 lb's less than a Lightning. Will be interesting to see. I hope Motor trend puts them head-to-head.

Your right about the tq! 354lbs is a monster.
Just today I smoked my tires with my 2001 R/T with only 3900miles on the clock. Yea I only have 335tq due to the three cats Arggg! I got a stock R/T an just an hour ago I had to cross the street to go the direction that I needed, so I floored it! Boy thoose tires lit up and I was gone! There was so much torque the rear end shagged down on the right the front left lefted and when I hit second gear that baby cherp at nearly 40mph on dry pavement! Boy I can't what to add some mods!

Its the truck of choice and i think the r/t can take any truck out there besides the ford lightning. Any problems?? W/B
