Hey Knobby, did you ever get the Rhino Liner on your bumper? I'm curious how it turned out.

This is an age old thread but since it has some really good history (and shows the age of this issue REALLY well) I thought I'd spark it up again. Anyone out there interested in getting a good, quality custom rear bumper for their Dakota? I'm looking at having one made up and once the first one is made (getting beyond the prototype to have a template) it just gets easier and less expensive for everyone thereafter. I'm curious to know who might be interested so I can offer up more justification for the fabricator. Just reply to this post with your comments & questions.

The rear bumper should have some Hi lift jacking points on each side. After my unfortunate double tire blow last weekend that is what we could have used.
Also I think it should be wide enough to stand on with no problems.

Hope Wayne helps you out.

ForeXFour - .. The bumper it self can be used as a hi-lift point you can put the hi-lift in the reciever hitch if you want to lift the whole back end up .. or towards one side or the other if you only want to lift up one side.

I've done it a few times like that.

Hey knobby,
I checked the custom rear bumper you put on
your truck, and I have to say - there really isn't
much to it. It's not that appealing. I read
through all the comments on the work, time
and money that has been put into your project,
and it seems I would've expected more for the
money you spent. I know this sounds mean,
but I couldn't take hearing all the praise
anymore!

But honestly, who cares what I think. I must
say - your truck does look pretty sharp overall.

I've been avoiding getting a factory
replacement rear bumper for my dakota
because we all know how costly they are.
Besides, as was mentioned before, they're
nothing but weak pieces of metal! I've always
been a fan of the way ARB designed their front
bumpers - I would like to see as much detail
go into a rear bumper design as well. So until
I can find an aftermarket that actually looks as
good as it performs, I'll have to sway towards
factory. Besides, it's not like I'll be thrashin' my
ride through the thick forest any time soon.

Take care.

PS If there is anyone who wants to get rid of
their dak factory rear bumper from 2001 or
newer let me know by responding to this entry.

DodgeIt - Your right.. I really don't care what you say.

I never said the bumper was awesome or that it was the best.. I just said I made a new rear bumper. And people started wanting to make one like it so I posted the information I had. Also if people e-mail I gave many suggested changes as I think I did with "db4thrill".

DodgeIt - One thing I will always remember that my mother told me is... (I'm sure most of you have already thought it..)

If you don't have anything nice to say.. KEEP YOUR D@MN MOUTH SHUT!

I think that would apply to your last statement. I never did anything to do you wrong and the first time I see your name it's a paragraph knocking me.. What's up with that? I'm just here to help you guys out I don't have my truck anymore so I'm not getting anything out of these forums. I'm here for YOU!

So anyways-

My point directed to the people reading these
entries is - even if one may think they're getting
a reasonable deal, they may cease to look
around for the best deal due to their
eagerness to get the job done.

As for knobbyhead, you need to learn to take
constructive criticism. I bet you didn't even
read past the first paragraph to see the part
where I actually complimented the overall look
of your truck. And trust me, I do appreciate your
input. So, sorry for the harsh words.

Oh yeah, one other thing, do you kiss your
mother with that mouth?

Good Deal? My insurance paid for it... I wouldn't care if it was $.50 or $500.

I honistly didn't care much about looks of the bumper as I did with quailty and strength.

Everyone I've talked to I've given my ideas on how to make it look better.. be stronger & more functional.

True I didn't put to much thought into mine but I was on a deadline and didn't have the time to work on it that I wanted.

As we've all heard said before:
"Why can't we all just get along?"
Ok, now back to business. As for the rear bumper, I'm still working with a shop to get the Dakota rear bumper going. I spoke to them today and as noted previously, it isn't going to happen overnight. This place is loaded with requests and we're just one of the many. I will follow-up with them again in a few weeks to see how much progress has been made. Will get back here to update you.
Hey Cowboy, I also have a damaged rear bumper and I'd much rather sink $500+ into a real bumper over a factory bumper any day. How quick do you need a replacement? Where do you live, what state?
