Thanks for the diagram. Hopefully I will be able to get a set cut soon (will save me a small fortune on shipping, and since I am in canada exchange rate too).

I have posted the pdf forexfour sent me at:

Protection from the front crossmember in front of the front differential to the crossmember behind the transfer case. Everything in between. About 6' of coverage.

Pro's: Mudd cleans off with a spray of water.
Oil drains through the hole not on the plates.
Strength. Protection!

Con's: Weight 96Lbs. 1/4" material so they wont buckle. I am sure with enough force you can do some damage. Due to the overall length thinner material will buckle with a good high center.

I am sure others have some con's but I think peace of mind is best to have the protection.

Knobby if you look at my prfile you can see the red bolt heads and the silver washers in the front. That is where they mount in front.

I am looking into having a plate made to hook the bumper and mount at the skid plate mounting points. That radiator stack is still exposed and could be damaged.

Thanks for the drawings forexfour! I'm having them made here in Maryland. I got them in 3/16" steel figuring if I bend them enough to break anything above, I shouldn't be there! Only alot of mudding to do here so just need em for hittin' the ruts. I'm assuming you got reg steel for these. How did you paint/treat these before install? I'm thinking a layer of paint then some spray undercoating?! Sorry for the long post.

So would I just take the drawings to a machinist or metal worker and have him make them up? Also, I take it that hole in the middle is for oil to come out of? Anyone else with the factory skid plate group find out the oil misses the hole? Pissed me off lemme tell you! Thanks for the info!

Greg, I took my drawings in and got plates made for $225 CDN ($145 US) It would have been cheaper with 3/16th steel.

Enjoy

A fabricator with some good equipt. I have found that they can be difficult to work with at times.

They all miss the hole I think!!!

I had my skid plates powder coated for about $60. Of couse nothing will withstand hard rock hits, but so far they've held up real well against sand, gravely dirt, brush, and branches.

The plates FXF sold me were sheared and punched (or were they laser cut?). Any welding shop with a plasma cutter and heavy duty brake can cut the patterns and make the bends no problem. Hold 'em to those drawings if they don't fit just right.

Keep swingin'

I got my skid plates the other day! $159 for 3/16". I sprayed em with undercoating and am getting ready to put em on. I got the fram suredrain to get the oil down past the skid plate and put it on at my 3,000 change. I have a question though. . . Does someone have pics or instructions on order of assembly of hardware? I'm tryin to figure out how the U-Nut, Bolt and washers are to be assembled?! Any tips/tricks for installing? Frontmost(?) nuts look to be tricky to hold in place. I will steal my roomate's dig. camera and snap pics as I go.
