Well, just put some 35's on my truck! Ive got BFG 35x12.5 on American racing (rock crawler lookalikes) 15x8 rims. My truck; a measly 3" Body lift and a 1.5" torsion bar lift! I did a bunch of cutting (not really, took like 10mins to cut a couple inches of the plastic wheel liner) and i only get rubbing at completely full lock. So, for all you guys who said it wasnt possible, enjoy your 33's, my truck looks sick. :) lol, anyway ill have pics pretty soon, its dark out right now, i should have them up by thursday/friday.

Yeah, ill try and get up there, im REALLY busy this summer though, have a meet in azusa again and ill be sure to come. We somewhat tested articulation today and i have zero rubbing. Like i said the only rubbing i get is at full lock, i have yet to wheel it hard or anything yet though. The rear didnt need any modification at all, the tires fit perfectly with about an inch, maybe a little less on each side. The rims have 5" of BS which is perfect for tires this big, and i went with 15x8 to help keep them as close to stock as possible. On the front we trimed the wheel liner about 4" front and back, and i ended up cutting a little on the fender flare but its at the bottom so you cant even see it. the overall look of them is awesome, cant wait to see how they do off pavement.

jimbo, your running a bigger lift than me though arnt you? Anyway, ive got some rubbing on the front when wheelin it hard, it will just take a tiny bit more cutting. The right rear rubs at full articulation because after my BL, the bed isnt absolutly perfect, im talkin like 2-3mm off and it wasnt enough to clear them so ill have to realign my bed just a tad. Thats basiclly all of it, turing radius is smaller cause the tires rub on the frame at FULL lock, just dont crank it all the way and its fine. Overall its well worth it, i love the look, i love the lift it gives, i love how they sound, i cant even imagine 33's now that ive got these on. Hope that helps, ill get some more pics to try and show you guys whats going on during full articulation etc.

I was pretty sure it could be done without doing a total hack job of the fenders.

Do you have any close-up shots of your trimming job?

aight heres some more pics. I took some close-ups of the cutting i did. To answer your question, i dont think you HAVE to cut the flares but you may ended up rippen em off if you flex the suspension and your wheels are turning. I got some shots of how the wheels sit in the wheel wells too, theres plenty of room. Anyway, here they are:

I'd like to see no rubbin(other than frame at full lock) with your set-up and only trimming fender liner and some flare. I have another 3" and you wouldn't see me doing any serious off-road flexing, vid's on forexfour's website showing this feat would be nice to give me some hope to not have to swap to 33's for off-roading everytime like I have been doing.

Truck looks great though V8.

Yeah 2thextrm. Though i noticed, it was only people with 3" suspension lifts that were telling me i shouldnt do it, though with a body lift, all you have is extra clearence without any extra flex, make sence? So the tires arnt gonna be going to far up in the wheel well. I will admit that the turning radius is much smaller do to the rubbing on the frame, and i do have slight rubbing (rear right tire due to misangled bed) and a little on the front that needs to be trimmed, but all in all i like the way they work. I will say that 33's are for most people, but if you wanna go with 35's they can be made to work, and imo look awesome. Thanks for all the compliments everyone, made my day lol :)

Lum,

Nice work. I do not doubt the 35's fit and will work for you. I still think at full flex you may be in some trouble. I hope you can wheel it as you like with no problems. I want to hook up with you again sometime to check it out and see it flex. This will help me understand the clearance. I still think the 35's are gonna be a costly route for anyone but only time will tell.

Have you been to Gorman before? I would like to check that place out sometime.

Let me know if you can plan a trip.

Hey V8

Do you think those 589 Eagle wheels with 3.63 backspacing on 15x8 or 15x10 would help with the rubbing at full lock since it would push the wheel out further from the frame?

thanks.. and let me know what you think

I didn't see anything about the backspacing on your rims. I had planned on 33s but after seeing your truck with the 35s I am starting to rethink my purchase.

The issue with rims with that little BS is your tires are so far out from the frame that they will now rub the outer part of the fenders. It will be worse than Frame rub.
Example, I ran 32x11.5x15 MT's borrowed from a friend, they were on AE 589's a BS of 3.5". I could not run these with out rubbing on every driveway or sharp turn. They rubbed hard on the Flares and metal. This was after I put on the 3" rancho lift.

Just FYI. I think the best BS to use would be 4.5" if you can find them. But I am no expert! I have only ran about every size tire possible to find the best for my purposes.

I completely agree with you and I would like to think that if you did find a rim that has right around 4.5 backspacing that you shouldn't see any rubbing. Now this is really making me think because the Center Line rims that I plan to buy have a 4.5 backspacing.

Thanks for the insight.

Do you have some Pictures or a link to those rims?

I guess you realize you need more lift for those 35's. I think you spoke of getting the Rancho.

I would like to know how those rims work out.

Also remember Lum is a 98. Different lift. The new spindles for the Rancho 00-03 lift creates a new BS issue with the relocation of the upper Ball joints. I am running 15x7 Gen II rims with 5" of BS with 33x10.5x15 MT's, Ball joint clearance is about .5" maybe but prolly less.
I am not sure how the 97-99 lift works.

2thextrm is the only 00' that I know of running 35's with the setup of Rancho and PA 6" of total lift. BUt he has to run 33's to wheel as far as I understand.

My wheels have 5" of BS, on a 15x8. I agree with Chris that it may solve the frame rubbing issue, but it will make the tire completely hit the fender and tear it right off. Like i said, i have already tested full articulation (one wheel was in the air) so i know exactly what rubs and my truck is perfectly "wheelable" as it sits right now. Im going to the Dodge Truck World cali meet so if anyone wnats to see it just come by and say whats up. L8rz

I guess I missed the point about the difference between the pre 2000 dak's suspension. Is it really that different than my 01 that I won't be able to run 35s with just a body lift?

As for the rims they are definitely not cheap but I figure this will be the last set I buy for a while. Besides I have a friend that manages the local Discount Tire store here so I am getting a pretty good deal.

Here is a pic of the rims and tires from desertrat.com

Here is a list of the available backspacing:

I am not an expert here nor do I claim to be, so you know. Those rims look to be the right ones but I have not run anything other than stock rims. I just dont care for the custom rims, prolly cause it is hard to imagine them on the truck and they are just to Chromed out shiny for me.

You may want to talk to 2thextrm about running 35's on 00 and newer. He is doing it with soem success. If my memeory serves me correctly in our e-mail comm and as he states here he has to run 33's to wheel. I am not sure if he is aware that Lum is a 98.

I as well am not sure of the Rancho differences from the pre '00 and the post '00. That is why I want to hook up with Lum again.

Lum you say a Dodgetruckworld group meet. I will have to see where and when.

The Pismo meet8-23-24 would be great, half way for both of us.

We'll see what happens.

I thought that V8Lum only has a body lift? Did I missing something else? I know my day has been pretty bad here at work but man I must be reading the wrong post, lol. from V8Lum's original post he states that all he has is a 3" body lift. If that is the case I would like to think that I could run 35s just like him. I have my t-bars cranked to level out the truck and I'm not afraid of a little trimming.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right that is what he said!

I thought in previous Comm he stated he got a Sus lift. I really am in doubt about the 35's now.

Perpetrate from here is someone I wheel with allot! In fact we were together this weekend, Anyway he is a '99 3" body lift only. He had to use my knife to clear the 33"s on stock rims.
I have some great upclose video that I have not been able to process of him running the articulation washout at Hollister. This video clearly shows how close the 33's are to fitting. I will get it posted soon.

Lum is the man though! He has it on and running so who am I to doubt it!

I am not sure if you are awarebut I was one of the few to run 33x12.5x15 MT's on stock. NO lift. I was limited to moderate wheeln. But it worked. I still do not see stuffin a 35 but I will never run anything that big.

Thanks for all the great info. I think I am going to call my friend at Discount Tire and see what their policies are if I decide to buy the 35s and see what they will do for me if they don't work out. If they let me put a couple miles on them just to test them out then I will order that size. If they don't then I will buy some 33s. I would love to have the first dak in my area to run such a big tire. That would be sweet. Also I really don't do that much offroading so this truck would basically stay on the pavement.

Thanks for the great info and if anyone else has any additional input let me know especially V8Lum since this was actually his post. LOL

Even at 6' tall, i find it hard to get in my truck now lol. I would get some more shots of it wheelin, but ive got some AC issues now so shes in the shop, ill be sure to post em up as soon as i take em though. Ok, heres what i think.... i went today and dug out my stock 16x8 and took them to a local tire place today in hopes of buying my 35's, but when i got down there, they had a almost new set of 305/75/16 MT/R's for sell. i paid 150.00$ and they were on in no time. i could easily clear 35's or 315/75/16's on these stock rims. actually im not sure but i think 315's may be just a hair smaller than 35's. but ive heard too that they are the same. anyways, for anyone out there wondering, yes you can fit 315/75/16's under youre 2001 dakota. all i have is a 3 inch body lift and TB's cranked about 2 inches or whatever it is to level out the truck. by the way, those MT/R's SUCK BIG TIME!!!! it feels like im riding on a tractor or something now. i wouldnt recommend them for the road. but they do dang good in the dirt. im selling them to a friend 2morrow and hopefully ill have these 315's on there by 2morrow or the next day sometime. ill keep yall posted. c-ya!
