It doesn't look like any of you have checked out my replies in this thread.

I am pretty confident that my experience is the EXACT same thing you are dealing with, but it doesn't sound like anyone has explored that possibility.

It is easy to look for, and I am willing to bet it is THE answer to the majority of these posts.

Well if that is a REAL TSB it did not work. I dried out the carpet and drove it for a week with no rain or washings and whatdo know the water returned. Taking it back to the dealer next week. We'll see what they say!

I had the same problem(s) with my truck. The water problem on the passenger floor comes from either the heater core or evaporator coil.

If it smells like anti-freeze, the heater core is leaking. If it is just water, the A/C drain hose is plugged. It is a REAL PAIN to replace the coils because you have to rip the entire dashboard apart.

I had a similar problem. '00 4.7 Water was being retained in the fan box by the evaporator blocking the flow to the vent line. You could hear the fan "swimming" in the collected pool of water. When it was full the water would go to the floor. Fix was to replace the evaporator(due to collected "stuff" in the fins) and reposition the evaporator to provide clearance at rthe bottom of the box for water to flow out.

Hello..
well I just finished reading the entire post on "water on the passenger floorboard" because for over 2 years I have been dealing with this issue and do not know where to turn.
I have a '99 Dakota Sport in excellent condition...except for a water leak on the passenger side. I recently lifted up the carpet on the passenger side b/c of torential downpours we've had in the area and found over a gallon's worth of water..
My solution for over two years has been just to cover the vehicle..but this doesn't work when driving in the rain! And, more importantly, I now see thick rust veins in the floor board! I am not a mechanic or very mechanically inclined (for example, I don't even know where the AC drain hose is, how to check the firewall sealing, windsheild, etc.) but don't know where to turn to get this fixed as I'm thinking it's out of warranty. (I bought this used -- it does have less than 60k miles). Additonally, I don't have lots of $$$ to spend on this! Any advice from y'all to someone in my shoes?

2003 Durango, gets driven a whopping 20-30 miles a week max due to stay at home business.

While vacumming the carpet yesterday evening after Saturday's rainstorm prevented my regular weekend cleaning inside and out. I noticed a somewhat stuffy smell which resembled that of my husband's 2000 Dakota and his 4 year long soaking wet passenger side floorboard that the dealership claims over and over is not a Dodge problem...of course he has no warranty anymore now either.

I called him out and he pulled the passenger side plastic piece that holds down the carpet and slid his hand under the edge and pulled out soaking wet fingers.

Am I going to experience the same run around that he has been experiencing for the last few years?

Corey's posts helped: thanks.

I took the plastic cowl shield off [and really didn't have to remove the wiper blades] on a 1998 Dak.

There are two small holes drilled presumably by the factory, one on the driver's side and one on the passenger's side right above the kick panel[s].

The driver's side had a bandage-like white patch over the hole; the passenger's side's white patch was torn and wrinkled leaving the hole exposed.

I used some body putty to block the hole and used the same putty around the plastic clamp that Corey described in his posts at the base of the windshield.

Had some heavy rain this afternoon and so far, so good.

Hope this helps,
Phil

2002 Ext.Cab 4x4 I have the same water problem in mine. We have not had a drop of rain in months and no car washes. When I have the A/C on, water starts near the back seat under the passenger seat belt retractor and moves foreword between the pass seat and door to the pass floor board. When I suff a beach towel between the pass seat back to the back seat, it will soak up the water before it reaches the pass floor. The towel will be soaked and floor under pass dry. I see my A/C drain is working some of the time. How is the water starting from the back? Anyone have any ideas?? I would like an answer here on the forum if that is ok.

Well, my husband made it to the local Chrysler dealership today with my 2003 Durango and told them about my passenger floorboard water problem, described what he found and they say they have had a problem on this idea with only a couple of the Caravans.

He said they have not heard of this being a problem on the Durangos or Dakotas.

He says I must get my Durango in on a monday for his "water" guy to check it out. My questions is that if its "only" been a problem with "only" a couple of Caravans then why does the dealership employ a "WATERGUY" who apparently does nothing else except find water problems on Dodge/Chrysler products?

Is there any way to add a water drain at the bottom of the hearer box to remove any chance of the core routing out? My Volvo has a drain for this and it is just a small 90 deg rubber hose leading stright to the floor board. This would drain all of the collected water from the system.

Oh lucky me! I too have a swimming pool in my Dakota. Anyone want to come over and take a dip? There's plenty of water there for everyone. Anyway, frustrated, I decided to turn to this website today after noticing this happen to my 2002 Dakota 4x4 on 3 occasions. I will go with the majority on this and attempt to fix the A/C drain hose leak myself. I think this is the reason because of the evaporator being damp. I did have my defroster on all day too, which is a leading cause to have the evaporator run. The last time I took my truck into the dealership for a warranty fix (Check engine light issue) I just got a lot of my time taken up and a dumb explanation why it came on. Not to mention I had a warranty deductible to pay (check and see if you do before taking your vehicle into the dealer under warranty). I'm sure that I will prevail in fixing this. I look at it this way, if I CAN'T fix it, then I will do the simple fix of drilling a hole into the floorboard to drain the future water. At least this way it won't pool up and you won't see the small hole due to the carpeting.

Well, found 2" of water in my floorbaord again and the dealer still says they cannot find the problem. They put a rubber 90* hose on the draintube last time (which does and has always drained by the way). They have checked the door seals, the have checked the windshield for a bad seal (even pulled the cowl off and checked out Corey's suggested fix after I brought in a printout of his theory) and still no luck.

This time they said they pulled the rubber 90* hose off and stuck a scope up through my drain line but did not see any blockage.

Once again, I only seem to get the water during and after a rain storm.

Well, I drilled 2 small holes into my floor board under the carpet at the lowest points and put in some homemade water escape plugs to allow water to drain out but not in. Also, I only leave my defrost on when needed, not always in the on position, since some think that this may be the problem due to the coil condensating when the defrost is in use or not in the defrost position. It's been over a month and it seems that I have the problem fixed. Only time will tell though.

I inherited my dads' 94 Dakota. Amazing vehicle with all the options and they all work. Of course he was 82 and the truck has only 59,000 miles on the clock. Anyway, he'd been having water trouble for the last few years. I brought the truck to Texas and sure enough, first frog strangler and the floor is standing water. I pulled everything apart inside to see where it may be entering. Looked like the slide thru back window. The bottom seal fills with dirt over the years and spreads open. Rain water floods down the inside of the back of the cab. Fixed it with electrical tape and it seemed to work. So a more permanent fix, clear silicone. Rained last week, flooded like heck, need to replace carpets but not till I find this flood source! Seems like Chrysler has had a long standing problem with this. Can you spell 'class action'?
