Myrna, The rheostat which controls the various speeds for the fan motor is shot, which means that you have only the one (high) speed now. The location of this switch varies, but it is usually close to the fan motor and most likely under the dash. It is usually, relatively inexpensive (less than $40) and can be replaced by a do-it-yourselfer.

I have a 2001 but the blower resistor block should be the same. Look under the dash on the passenger side forward of, and in line with, the glove box latch. On the bottom of the blower housing look for a plug with four wires. There are two screws that hold the block in the housing. The most difficult part is releasing the electrical plug locking clip. I got the part from the local Dodge dealer in November for $9.90 tax included. Good luck, Dick

thank you for all your help. you were right it was tricky to get to but i did it. i brought the plug down to dodge and showed it to the parts
dept and he said it was a common problem. it did cost around $10 and about an hour of my time.
thanks again for your knowledge. and happy new year

jbohio, or anyone else, did you get this problem with the a/c not coming out of the dash vents fixed. I could sure use any helpful info. I also have determined that the actuator on the driver side is moving when I change the controls.

I have not been able to figure a way to get in to look or to fix (if it's off) the actuator... winter is just about over in ne ohio so I'll be into my truck in a couple weeks. I'll post a message if I learn for sure what's happening... and what I've done... I sure would be nice to have the panel vents operating.. heat...or cool

sounds like a vacuum problem. Check the vac line that runs into the engine bay, should be coming from the same hole where the heater core and evaporator core lines are.

It's been awhile...see 4/01/05 entry.. but the problem that I had has been fixed !! Horaay.. Unfortunately for my ego, I did not do it... As you recall.. maybe not.. I had heat / AC coming from the floor and defrost vents, but nothing blowing out the dash vents... well my last guess was correct. the flapper door (nearest the drivers door) was detached from the linkage. The linkage had broken out of the plastic hole that it was in. The dash had to be totally removed to access that area. So now !!! I have heat and AC coming from the dash vents! It sounds like a design weakness to me.. well maybe not.. if there is only 10 occurrances in all of the world.. that wouldn't be a design flaw... but it was very frustrating.. Thanks to all that gave me a directon to think.. now I can say that I am still smarter than my '98 Dakota... but not by much..

If you haven't already, check the fuses and relay. Then test the fan motor.

Recently while driving on a long trip with the AC on, cool air stopped blowing from the vents even though the fan was still running. When the AC compressor was switched off, after a couple of minutes the air was once again blowing, so the AC was switched back on and resumed blowing cool air until mayby 10 minutes later, the air flow from the vents had again almost stopped completely again, and the cycle of events continued repeating. Could this be the evaporator icing? If so, why is this happening now, and what needs to be done to fix it? If not icing, what would it be, and what needs to be done to fix it?

AC works great, airflow and direction is correct but cannot get
any warm or hot air when changing of the temp control. I can

Geees, you posted this over 12 years ago, doubt you will even see this............Sounds like my nightmare all over again, I think this is a problem with the truck as I can see here at this forum it is a common problem. Several hundreds of dollars later though of trying to figure it out it was the drain, they fixed it and now no problem like I had. And now several years later Occasionally I have felt the carpet was wet but that is it, not sure what that is all about, but not enuf to go thru what I went through before along with the costs. Not worth the hassle, just drive with windows open or the heater on to help dry her up...................
