Subject: Hurculiner vs Plasticoat bed liner

I was wondering if anyone has experience with both of these? How well do they hold up relative to each other? I don't beat up the bed enough to justify a $400 Line-X.

i'd have to find a 100 dollar beater to try doing on on myself. No way I'm going to screw up my 25,000 truck to save maybe 300 bucks. But that's just my opinion. I've seen the hurculiner in 3 differant trucks. 2 of them had chunks gone and pealing in other places. one was just done so no rips or nothing. All looked phoney to me. If it pleases you go for it.

So many problems .... so little time

i used hurculiner on a 84 gmc i had i traded it for another car(didn't cost much).surface must be prepped properly (just like painting a car).On my 03 R/T i took it into a shop to have ot sprayed professionally (wasn't willing to screw up a 25k+ truck). it is all up to you on how valuable the truck is and are you willing to take a chance on making a mistake.

P.S.- you will probably need to get more than 1 can for good coverage($200).just food for thought

I went with a spray in and was veryy pleased. If I were you I'd do the same. I was even willing to put it on my credit card. It is over the rail and I get compliments all the time.

I put Herculiner on my 99 Dak and also an 04 Ranger. Used to have a spray on in an F150.

Pep Boys has Herculiner on sale for $79 per kit (one gallon) plus a $20 rebate. You'll need two kits to do the full bed. That's $120, plus a can of acetone to clean ($8). vs hundreds more to have some yokel do it.

I'm VERY impressed with how well it turned out. It looks every bit as good as a spray on that costs 4 or 5 times as much. and they wear just as well.

IMHO, if you've got more money than brains or time, go with spray on. Otherwise, DIY and use the Herculiner. Prep is the key. It's not hard, just need to take time taping, sanding and cleaning.

If you plan on using your bed go with a Line-X type liner. I have the Herculiner that I sprayed in. I really use my bed...hauling gravel, firewood, etc. The Herculiner is pealing in spots and has chipped on me as well. Just my 2 cents.

if you even begin to fathom that herculiner is better than line-x then you my dear friend are a quack
i have both
herculiner on the dakota and line-x on my 2003 Ram 3500 and had it on my 01 Ram 1500
you can haul anything shovel off it do pretty much anything you want to it and it is indestructable
it is WELL worth the extra $350 to have the LineX put on
and to get the herculiner as thick as the Line-x is will take about 3 gallons
the herculiner i put on was the whole can plus a quart more and it is nowhere NEAR as thick as the line-x

It's pretty obvious that if you don't put enough herculiner on you won't have the same results. 5 quarts is inadequate.

I used 9 quarts on my Dakota and it's as thick and strong as any expensive sprayed on liner i've seen.

I guess Amsoil doesn't make a bedliner, so their honey isn't interested.

In the Houston, TX area, I went with a Permatech. It's a Dealer installed spray on, lifetime warranty, thick, etc. I've had no problems with it in over 4 years.

I had a drop in, but didn't like the way it was slowly wearing the paint at the contact points.

I got an over the rail, for my QC, for about $300 I think it was, may hve been cheaper than that.

They have an 800 # for dealers near you.

Eight years of having all sorts of cargo, and the paint in the bed of my 98 still hasn't worn through, from having things pushed and dragged on it. Both fender wells have big, ugly dents from careless fork-lift drivers mashing the pallet into them.
I figured I'd install a bed liner to make it pretty when I sell it.
So, my question stands; why use a bed liner?

So that means you don't have any scratchs deep enough through the paint that will cause rust?

Also, a nice thick bed liner will stop some denting by cushioning the blow. It wont from careless forklift drivers however. It might be just in my head, but I noticed better handling wilt the additional weight from the liner.

Wolf liner out of Riverside, CA
Basically a rhino liner, but less expensive.

With 500,000 miles on your truck, do you really think a 400 plus dollar liner will sell your truck for more. You drove the miles out of yur truck. every mile you get now is free miles. When you sell you will be talking to guys looking for a once a month garbage hauler. drive it over a cliff. You more then been paid back the cost of that truck. How many trucks of any kind do you know of with 500,000 on it. I know of 2 others, Both toyotas. No doubt there are others but there rare.

on my old 01 i put herculiner on the rocker panels where i would step and the paint was wearing
i put it on thick, jsut as thick if not thicker than my line-x
it was starting to flake off when i sold the truck
that was jsut from dragging shoes on it
i wouldnt want to shovel anything off from it
