Subject: It's true.. No more for me.

Message:
God, I'd hate to be one of these people on this forum that say
this but, I'm gone for now, but thanks for all your help... its
made life much easier. However, I'm not going to be buying a
Dodge ever again, and I'm sad about that, but the company is
rediculous. To put it lightly.

I had a 99 dakota, and after 4500 in repairs... screw that, I
thoguht the generation III's were the only badly designed
models, my power steering, all tie rod ends, all ball joints (I
replaced with Moog) intake man gasket, rear end, tranny all went
bye bye.. neew brakes constantly.. at 75k....

Honestly here .. you have got to be kidding me.. seriously...
thats insane

So I gave a 05 model dakota a chance.. 4.7 liter, 4x4.QC, nice
truck.. uglier though, but it was ok...

now get this.... my rear drive shaft Fvucking fell off on the
highway while towing a little 800 jetski.... that was GREAT!.. let
alone more brake problems and a tranny that doesnt shift into
reverse anymore! and thats only 4k into a brand new truck

Screw you Dodge.. I hate you, chrysler has got to be the worst
automotive company I have ever dealt with. I'm now selling me
05 dak before it falls apart from underneath me and before the
warrantee goes away..

How can anyone expect me to stay with this? God I wanted to
like the new dodge trucks, they looked great, and performed wel
when they DID work... looks liek kthe only american vehicles that
are backed up by the manufacturer and that last a long time are
the full sized F-350 and Ram and Chevy 3500 trucks (Which my
dad has owned all 3 brands of trucks and lasted forever)

I don't need a full size like that, and you wont see me in a
outdated brand new Ranger, or a retarded Colorado.. so I can't
wait to get my hands on the new Tacoma.. sorry but I bet I'll be
happier

Dodge is worthless in my eyes now, I can't be dealt these cards
and accept it..

Sorry to rant... but I thought this would never happen.

I'll never buy American, especially anything Dodge, again.

My friend has a 93 toyota pickup with 115 miles on it and
nothing besides normal maint. has gone wrong..

Screw this.

03 QC 4X4 34,000 only prob was a emisisons item that cracked. other than that no probs except for a low idle that dodge is working on and reminds me I have to call them for an update.

any new car or truck will have a possiblility of having prob when thay are new. one down fall of the production line. things get missed and screwed up. one advantage of having a hand built vehicle. how can you say yo uwont have no probs with your taco? I heard they have a brake prob also. toyo is in a massive recall of vehicles for probs.

hope you have no probs with your new taco. but all vehicles has their lemons and you might get a taco lemon too.

I have had my fair share of lingering, hard to troubleshoot issues. All it took was time to resolve.

So far nothing major, 1995 SLT CC 4x4 3.9L auto with almost 164k miles. Still gets 17-18 combined city/highway.

Had an 85 ranger that I bought knowing the injectors were bad. In the couple of years I owned that truck went through 3 engines and 2 transmissions and countless other parts.

Sorry it didn't work out for you, I love my dakota.

The only thing uglier than the new Dak is the new Taco.

I don't want to flame Toyota because they seem to make reliable vehicles but the styling is crap.

If I was trade my Dakota which definately won't happen soon, I would get the new F-150 FX4 4X4...those things look bad@ss lifted.

I'm with you on the "treat you truck right". 97 3.9 RC Manual tranny with 100K. Replaced ball joints/tierods/etc(wife+bee+55mph+curve+6' ditch=new front end suspension), timing chain and plenum pan gasket(preemtive like prodak). Other than that, I have nothing but good things to say about my dak. It has been awesome.

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

I'm Glad to hear about your good luck with your trucks.. you
have no idea how much I would like to be you guys.

No kidding about the new Taco sytling... all the new mid sized
trucks, especially the japanese trucks, but even the domestic
ones (dak, colorado) are tonka truck styling... the new Taco is
ugly in my opnion, but everything else you get out of it is worth
it in my opinion.

I just can't take the risk, and i can't like chrysler for what they
have put me through financially and mentally you know? It
actually has to do a lot with how the company treated me, as
well as all the problems.. I mean a new 05 truck and i still got
peoblems.. i did give them a 2nd chance and no 3rd will come

Good luck with your daks, i know you'll love them, as i loved
mien when it worked..

93,000+ miles. Replaced 5 electrical door accuator locks, the PCM (once at 51,000 miles, but truck is still in the shop-week 6 with check engine light probs and a $3K tab so far), Brake rotors turned at 15-20k , miles and again at 40K-then replaced with after market "powerslot" rotors and pads (no more brake troubles),radiator hoses, with most regular maintenance performed by the dealership-even most oil changes. I have owned 6 other Dodges in my life, and loved every one of them, but this one is killing me financially, and NOT makung me feel warm and fuzzy at all!! Thinking about a 65 chevy truck or old power wagonn, pre-all this computer crap, that a real person without a million dollars worth of specialized computer tools, can actually work on and keep running. With money spent already, I could have had one in "show" condition.

I'm sad to say I agree with you. I bought a '97 dakota 4 years ago, in mint condition, and have had nothing but trouble with it since day one. Which is too bad, it was a beautiful truck, but with just endless, bizzare and expensive problems. It was out of comission almost as much as operational. I had to replace the ball joints twice, radiator, alternator, power steering hoses (every winter), the intake manifold was leaking oil into the gas tank, blocked heater core, the headlights have NEVER worked properly and no one has ever figured out why, both brakes and batteries need unusually frequent replacing, heater fan broke twice...etc, etc. I can't keep up financially with the maintenance, and there should be no reason for it. The truck was babied by both it's owners, it even still looks brand new. For the longest time I kept thinking like ok, get this fixed and from now on maybe just normal maintence but not a chance. Frigging problem after problem. Every time I drive it, I'm just one trip closer to the next problem. I'm constantly listening to the engine and watching the RPM guage just to be sure I'll make it home. Also, the dodge/chrysler dearlers were the worst people I have ever dealt with in my life. I wanted so badly to like my dakota, it was exacly what I wanted in a truck, and I loved it when it worked, and maybe it was just a lemon...who knows. But I do know that I will NEVER buy another dodge anything. I'm with you...I just had it towed away this morning again(it was dead in the parking lot this morning when I was going to work...for the third time in 3 weeks) once they figure out what's going on with it this time, as most of it's problems are mystery problems, I'm selling it and never looking back. Tacoma here I come!

My uncle works with the state game and fish as an officer, and my dad as a service tech. Any who, the state just changed from Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 to the Ford super duty 4x4. My uncle said the thing wont hardly make it out of his (dirt) driveway. No I'm not kidding, he's had to have it towed out twice. Also said that it will beat your teeth out on a dirt road. And is a SERIOUS gas hog. He only had one problem with the Ram, that damn auto tranny had to be replaced with a "police" unit. For the other half of the story, He just bought a new Taco (personal). Had it around a month now, and it's in the shop for ball joints and brakes.
That really goes to show thats it's not any paticular company, almost all of them suck these days.
It's a sad time to be a working class American.

don't you people buy warranties?? :)
my standard and extended warranties have saved me thousands of dollars (dd.com has saved me almost as much)
if a part went out that was previously fixed i would go ballistic at the dealer or whoever previously fixed it. in fact that happened and i got it fixed right, for free, just because i stood up for myself (and my dak) and demanded it.

Ben you said "new brakes constantly" where were you buying your brakes and what was the reason for needing new ones so much? and you could have gone just about anywhere other than the dealer for lifetime warrantied brakes, or called dc to ask what they will do since the dealer installed brakes are failing and the dealer won't do anything about it.

same thing for your power steering hoses Holly. what was te reason they needed replacing every winter and why didnt you address that instead of replacing the hose every winter??
batteries always have replacement warranties and if they die often maybe its not the battery but the charging system.
the dealer/repairshop really said "sorry we don't know what is wrong with your headlights" and you left it at that?

sorry don't mean to offend but i just can't stand it when people go off on dakotas with all those generalized complaints and no seemingly logical attempt at resolution.

All good points Jeff.

Even dealers will cave if you complain enough. I honestly think they were tired of me calling every couple of hours. I called early one morning (been open a couple hours since they opened) and was told noone was working on it. I complained about that asking why noone was since I had dropped it off 2 days before and it should have been 1st on their list. Hahaha Oh well, I'm never going there even for parts again. I got $600+ in free parts/labor from that dealership.

On a side but related note, If you do not have it, seriously look into getting AAA. I suggest spending the few extra dollars and getting AAA plus. Some warranties do not cover towing. With the AAA plus, you can get towed up to 150 miles. Another nice thing, AAA covers YOU not the vehicle. So if you're out and about with friends/family and their vehicle breaks down, you can use your AAA and have their vehicled towed.
