Thanks justi, now I see that my cut and paste was doing the same thing.

You're welcome for the disk!

I'm think I'm going to run separate wires to the Data link Connector. Doug4.7 seems to have a good handle on that, and Ipve been contacting him e-mail about this.

With a little faith, this may just work yet!

Todd

you can go to http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/ and click on
the Dakota Wiring Diagram and get a 53 meg ZIP of PDFs of the
whole electrical system of the 04 Daks.

The 2004 Body Builders Guide above that gives you another ZIP
of PDFs of other info, a lot of it measurements and warnings and
such.

---IT WORKS!!!!----
I'll try and keep it short.
Everything EXCEPT the temp works! I didn't see the sensor, I'll have to get one.

But, now the 'check engine' light is on.
It's code P 0443 - what is that? (I know, this is on the list of the 10 stupidest questions.)

This was much cheaper than the invoice price I would have paid if I ordered it with it.

THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT HELPED ON THIS!

and, what is the P 0443 code?

It means "unauthorized option added to truck without paying dealer $$$$$. Please return truck to dealer and pay $$$$$ for code to be removed."

Of course, if you added the temperature sensor, you would get a different code, the one that says "multiple unauthorized options added to truck..."

Lurkin, et. al.,

It didn't give me that code, until I hooked the O/H computer to the PCI bus. Go figure!

But's it's cool, that I got it to work, even dims with the dash lights dimmer switch.

If anyone wants to know about the install, e-mail me.

According to the service manual it's mounted beside the radiator on the radiator bracket, but to be honest I've never looked for mine. So I can't tell you for sure, but look there first..

Justi,

After reading the manual on the compass calibration, I did as it said, and drove in three consecutive circles. It's self calibrating. The compass wasn't working completely right, and it had a 'cal' next to the direction.

After the self calibration, (3 circles), the 'cal light went out and,

The check engine light went out also!

I read where the temp sensor is, even have a good picture of it in the manual I have, on CD. It's not there, but the wiring is!

Everything works! All the different modes, compass, etc.

For all those that were told about a 3-600 dollar wire harness, etc. B S !!

This was too easy, after I learned what the PCI bus was, where to get easy access to it, etc, a breeze.

Three wires on my 2001, 12+switched, ground, and PCI bus. Even dims with my dash lights. Custom install, all wires easily hidden, etc! I bought my O/H puter, from a guy off this site, who had it for my year, etc., and didn't hook it up, and sold his truck. Thanks Brent!

I could tell you how I did it, but then, I'd have to kill you! LOL

Todd
Thanks to all who helped, via e-mail, this thread, etc.

That's very cool. Mine's never popped up with "CAL" but I've read about it in the manual. Glad you mentioned it here or the check engine woulda jacked me up for a bit too! Manual says it's needs calibrated if go thru a heavily magnatized area. Or of course, if it's a new install. :)

Just for grins Todd after your do your first full tank with the computer let us know if it's close to accurate for yours. Mine's never been more than .6 MPG off from what I do manually, so I'm anxious to see how the custom install goes..

justi,

OK, I'll do it soon, only putting about 1-200 a week on her now, depending if I go sailing or not. I can tell by the different readouts, that's it's right as a factory install. the claibration for the mileage and whatnot, is already in the PCI bus system. Yea, sailing, around here, it's about warm enough all year.

Doug,

I actually did the circles, at the fire station I'm a volunteer fireman out of. Ems, police, etc.

It was nice that although I ordered my dak, and paid only invoice for truck and the options I wanted, that this was still alot less than ordering invoice. More satisfaction too. I read for years, about dealers, telling owners, that to wire it would be around $600.! What a crock!
