 Subject: ATV+tailgate

Im in the market for an ATV and I think it will look damn sexy sitting in my Dakota :D Anyways, my question is if the tailgate on our trucks are strong enough to hold both a ATV and myself (270lb+) without bending or breaking. I would test it out myself but, I don't want to find out it isn't and seriously injury myself and my precious (truck).
Thanks all.
BTW: What's a good ATV? Looking for a 4x4 that will let me do some mud bogging.

I make a practice of loading a 950# tractor on my Dak using ramps attached to the tail gate with no problem. I know it will hold a 650# engine. Just make sure the cables are not rusty. If you want you can remove the tail gate and set the ramps on the end of the pickup box. Make sure you secure the ramps so they can't slip off. I got pins in mine that insert into holes in the tail gate.

well i can sit me and my brothers on my tail gate no problem, and considering we all weight in at a combined almost 700lbs lbs i think you should be safe

Read your owners manual, but I've seen lighter things than 700lbs bend the living sh!t out of a Gen3 Dakotas tailgate.

I have loaded my Yamaha Warrior and the wife's HEAVY Polaris into mine a few times. And since I've got the truck box the REAR wheels sit on the tail gate when driving.
No dents but haven't done this often since I got a trailer to tow them both.
Usually it's a go cart or the kids 70 in the bed and the two big quads in the trailer.
Damn this beast can tow some sh*t!
I love passing the Chevy 1/2 tons on the way to the Dunes :-)

I can fit my heavy ass Yamaha Big Bear in mine with no probs...and I got one of dem lil 3.9's in my dak:)
I wish that event were in Ohio...I'd love to go and ride, but New York's a bit too far away.

The tailgate should have no problem with the load. Just check the cables, as suggested. I move a lot of heavy motorcycles and never had a problem on the Gen1 nor the Gen3. The nice thing about the little bed in the CC trucks is that the extra 6" usually means the tailgate has to stay down, but the weight of the bike or quad is solely in the bed and not on the gate :)
Is there a filter for this Amsoil crap? If I even thought about ever using it in any vehicle, this jerk off has definately made me decide not to. Hell, after reading how he butted into this thread I'd be inclined to email Amsoil and link them in to see how poorly he represents their company. They prolly wouldn't care though, we have another one just like him in a motorcycle list I'm on. Maybe it's their marketing strategy... even bad press is press? Peddle your $hit where people are discussing SOMETHING relevant to it... sheesh.

the sub line is someone asking about weight on a tailgate. You are so full of it that you can't even see that? If you made your post offering to have him meet you at the booth so you could shovel manure into his truck and test the tailgate strength then I might even let it go. You just used this as a way to hang your shingle again. You took up a ton of room and it totally doesn't belong. According to your logic, if we were discussing UPS shipping you could come in with a 10 page copy of AMSOIL's line of crap an say that you ship UPS so your post is relevant! Wake up and tase what you are shovelling, Buddy.
As far as being a site sponsor, you should be! You should be forced to pay someone for all the peddling you do. Non-member readers should get a divdend on what you pay for having to put up with you. Even so, you are so far out of line that a real site owner would kick you out. I know if you were on my site I would have shown you the door by now and sent you back any payment you may have ever made. I might even take up a collection to send you more as a payoff to stay the hell away.
If you are trying to get me to pay to use this site, part of why I haven't is because I don't think payment should be required. My site pulls 6gigs+ a month in usage from the server and my members freely donate to keep the site going... I NEVER suffer from too few donation and the yearly server bill and domain name is always paid for. I may contribute to the owner here one day, but I am not paying to become a member.
If you are trying to use your status as a member to tell me to shut up and let paying customers use the board, then kiss off.
Fix this site and make it mandatory for verified membership login to post anywhere, with a yearly donation request and not a member dues setup, and the rif-raf will go away and the site will improve immensely. This site could be SO much more if the owener got rid of the trash and that includes paying customers like YOU.
