Message:
I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT I JUST PICKED UP MY SILVER SRT-4 ON FRIDAY THE 21. PAID 2K OVER STICKER, THEY WERE ASKING 25K. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT THIS CAR WAS WORTH THE WAIT. THE POWER, THE SOUND, AND THE LOOKS ARE DEAD ON OR THIS CAR. I PUT 300MILES ON IT THIS WEEKEND. WHEN I WENT TO VISIT A FELLOW MOPAR BUDDY IN THE BAY AREA, HE SUDJESTED THAT WE GO TO TOWER BOOKS. WHERE ALL THE STREET RACERS HANG OUT. AS SOON AS I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT I WAS SURROUNDED BY LIKE 30 PEOPLE ASKING ME 100 ?S EVEN THE THE LOCAL RICER CROWED GOT A KICK OF THIS CAR.
LATER THAT NIGHT I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT AND A Z28 PULLED UP NEXT TO ME. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN WE WENT AT IT, I WAS SHORT SHIFTING AT AROUND 4500 RPM AND STAYED WIT HIM THROUGH 1 AND SECOND.
IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING ONE OF THESE LITTLE ROCKETS, DONT THINK ABOUT TO LONG CAUSE THEY ARE GOING FAST. I HAVE ALREADY FOUND SOME SIGHTS ON THE WEB THAT ARE POSTING DYNO #S. THEY ARE SAYING FROM 217-223 HP FROM THE WHEELS. SO YOU HAVE TO FIGURE ABOUT 15% LOSS FOR THE DRIVE TRAIN. THAT COMES OUT TO ABOUT 250HP AT THE CRANK. NOT BAD FOR A 20K CAR.
IF I DO START MODING THIS CAR, I AM GOING TO START WITH THE SUSPENTION. GET THEM WHILE THEY LAST BOYS AND GIRLS!!

he said he paid 2K over sticker which would be $22,000. They were asking $25,000 which would be 5K over sticker. Just paying $20,000 is good. Invoice on a srt-4 is about $18,500 and nobody is getting them for that. They will depreciate like any other car, but no way with runs limited to 3000-5000 per year on a high demand car will they be at the high end of the depreciation scale. They made more Buick GNs every year, and they were slower and more expensive. Don't try that it's only a Neon thing cause the GN is only a Regal!

Anyway its a dodge and its fast, congratulations.

The dealer probably added a little something something to the sticker like they did the PT when it came out.

Z-Tube, R/T Rims, SSB Rear Disc Conversion, Alpine Head-Unit, Infinity Kappa Speakers, SilverStar Headlights, HO Cams & Intake installed.

Got H.O. ?

D, don't get me wrong I love all the car names being thrown around here but I don't think you can get a new WRX for $21,000. A no option 5-speed wagon would cost a dealer $22169 and that's after a $500 manufacturer to dealer market support. Then if they gave you the holdback and made you pay no marketing fee, and actually lost money on the sale it would still cost $21,424 for a WRX wagon. That's pretty close to the $2000 over MSRP on a SRT-4. I'm sure you couldn't touch that deal in the first 2 weeks of the WRX's introduction into the US. Give the SRT-4 almost 2 years on the market (which is where the WRX is), and I bet you can buy them new for $17,000 with some rebates, and used for about $13-$15,000. My brother has a loaded yellow sedan WRX he bought in the first 2 weeks, and had to pay MSRP. It was about $26,000. It is still perfect with 15,000 miles and he got offered $18,000 on trade in, and we live in Subaru country. Made me feel better about my R/T's resale!

can't you buy the new subaru WRX STI with 300 HP for like 30K? I know it's a Dodge and all but the suby's got all wheel drive and a 6 speed, 17inch wheels and cool wing... (Sorry, I have a softspot for wings, I have a "go-wing" on my 70 challenger 440 six-pak, and it probably has about the same effect...looks only)

BUT ITS STILL A DAMN NEON! evey person that i know with a neon has had problems with them. from blowing head gaskets (on a stock engine) to AC problems.

i have talked to at least 10 differant people with subaru's when i was thinking of getting a WRX, and they go 100's of thousands of miles with nothing more than a oil change.

its going to be interesting to see how the half shafts and CV boots hold up to the added power. expecially if one turns up the boost and puts some slicks on it

No,I did not pay 27k for this car. I paid 22k. As in to the wrx, have any of you giving this thing such high praise, ever got in to and drove one before. If not, do it before you cast the remarks. Something as simple as in to how the door sounds when you close it, is a big differance. The sub sounds like a 76 dtsun pick-up i used to own. The suspention makes just one to many creeks and squeeks for me. And last but not least it not a dodge. Do not get me wrong, I like the car, but for the money, it could be a little better. As in to the resale and all that sh!t, I can care less. I did not buy this car just to turn around and sell it in 2 years. By the way for those of you that think that the sti won't get marked up, dream on. By the way kota, how much did you pay for that truck? and how much do THINK you can get for it.

Eric,

Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel? hehehehe The previous neons or normal neons (non-STR) are built like crap cause nobody cares. Most folks I know that bought a neon, bought it for the cheap price (which means cheap product).

Now, the STR is probably built with parts that are of much better quality (performance oriented). I'm sure Dodge didn't slap the same head gasket on the STRs as the one used in gramma neons! Like any other vehicle built for boost and performance, the parts are much stronger than the original OEMs.

In the end the car is still a NEON. But then again, is a Syclone just a DAMN SONOMA?? ;)

well if you really want to know how much i paid, here goes. i got my truck on a green sheet (if you want to know what that is, just ask and ill explain). it stickered for 21k and i got it for 18.5k (yes that is below invoice, and that might be with my 100k warrenty. i cant remember)

i just checked bluebook value and its a tad over 11k thats ofcourse in stock form. i could easily get 5k in parts that i put on it, so if i sold the truck in stock form for 10k and sold the parts for 5k i would be happy.

thats for a 5 year old truck.

now for a compairison, lets do my moms 2000 stratus...hahaha

the sticker on that was 16k, my mom bought it on the green sheet for like 13ish, and guess what the blue book is....5k talk about a slap in the face! and thats if she were to sell it to a privat party. the trade in value is like 3k and the car has had its share of problems, thats for sure!

Eli, they were built cheap because no one cares? you must mean the builders, because im sure the owners care when the thing breaks down and leaves them stranded in the middle of nowhere.

that is the differance between the japanese and us americans. THEY CARE! i can buy a civic for the same price as a neon (both cheap cars in terms of money) and i know the civic is going to be more reliable

i dont care if you are buying a 300,000 car, or a 10,000 car, the people producing the product shoud care about the quality of workmanship that goes into them!

i have not gotten into a domestic car yet that was over 2 years old and not have the interrior rattle, vibrate, or just break off in my hand.

this is one of the reason's that domestic's depreciate in value so fast.

here is something that i have noticed. asians reasearch everything before they buy. they are verry carefull how they spend there money, and always want the most value for there cash. when is the last time you saw a asian driving a dodge intreapid? hardly ever. they usually are in a toyota, honda, mercedes, bmw, or lexus (and dont say they buy there own brand, because bmw and mbz are german)

Eric,

True, I haven't been in a compact or midsize domestic car yet that hasn't made me want to puke. Everything looks and feels like a half-@ss job!

Ya, the people who appearently don't care are US manufacturers. Just take a quick look at the attractive exterior of an Aztec or the sturdy interior of a Breeze! I'm sure the people stuck on the side of the road care, but if they REALLY would have cared, they would have purchased an import! Anyone with half a brain knows imports outlast domestic cars.

Saying that, I'm only hoping the STR is one of the few American autos that doesn't live up to the American stereotype. Every once and a while an American manufacturer gets in right. (This is especially true about Dodge trucks!)

Are you serious? The NEON is going to
depreciate so fast It'll make your head spin.
Don't get me wrong, the SRT-4 seems like a
cool little car, but IMHO it should sticker less
than $16,000. Hell, why didn't they just drop
that hot motor in the ACR model. (You can get
an ACR for like $13,000)

Doesn't anyone remember the Spirit RT and
Daytona IROC? They had a 230 horse "turbo
3" motor with a Lotus designed head. People
are lined up to buy those "limited edition" cars
now.....cough, cough, cough.

Why do people always think limited production
equates to value. Hey, I've got a toilet from
1957, it's one of 34 built, you can have it for the
low price of $1500!

At least Chrysler is making an effort with the
SRT-4, but it's like a broken record, been
there, done that. I just wish they'd nut-up and
build something with a V8, 5-speed and rear
wheel drive.

Honestly, for the money, if you wanted
something to hang out with your Rice-driving
buddies, I'd go for the SVT Focus, or the Turbo
Mazda Protege. They both probably have a
better chance of still running in two or three
years.

Congratulations on your new car (honestly).

....stepping off my soap box,

Lemmers

(email me about the toilet, but do it fast, it's 1
of 34 EVER MADE)

I'll admit the the "door slam" on a Suby is a little tin-like. I figure I could put in a couple of sheets of dynamat or whatever it's called and tone it down some. Heck the "door slam" on my challenger is kinda funky itself compared to the solid sounding Dakota and Durango I own. I also admit the SRT Neon looks pretty good except that I believe it needs bigger/wider wheels and tires, a bigger hood scoop and how about some "high-impact" colors! (In reality I just want Mopar to re-introduce a modernized version of the Cuda and Challenger of the early 70's the performance years, I'd buy 1!)

SRT 8 is a station wagon, no thanks. At least my Durango has 4 wheel drive! I think Dodge is really missing the message. The people that want performance wouldn't be caught dead in a station wagon. Either young people or "muscle car survivors". Why waste everyone's time withthat when they could have "reissued" a cuda or something worthwhile... Yeah Dodge makes the viper, but the re-style made it too lame. I could probably afford one if I sold all my other vehicles but it's still way too expensive. Dodge that's a swing and a miss for strike 2.

They are getting closer with the Intrepid LX but it still reminds me of "chopped 40 mercury" meets cadillac. I still would like a car with a long hood, short/wide stance, short trunk, room for 4 2 doors, with a lot of power. As much as I like my dakota and Durango, they are not cars and by definition much more difficult to get all-around performance from. But you are right a v-8 with either AWD or RWD is a good start.
