The SRT-4 is limited in that they are hand assembled in the PVO shop and they don't have the capasity to crank them out compared to something like the WRX. Do you all really tink the SRT-4 is going to be broke down in 3 years!? Seems like that would be big news to chrysler who put a 7 year warrany on the thing! I still love that "it's only a Neon" thing. lets add that to the other great special editions that have come out over the years.
"The GN is only a Regal"
"The Syclone is only a Sonoma"
"The Lighting is only a F-150"
and I'm sure everybody could come up with plenty more...
Stuff like the GLHS omnis and chargers were ahead of there time, and considering how inexpensive they were in the first place, they have a pretty good resale today. Compare them to a 86 Civic in resale.
Right now in 2003 the quality of a Dodge compared to Honda is very close. The Honda is running on past perceived quality, and has been slipping a lot lately. The imports built their reputation of quality back when everything they made was small, lighweight, underpowered and manual transmissioned. Now that they build high powered, heavy, automatics they have all the same problems that have plauged domestics. The best example is the current Honda minvan. Finally they built a real van to go head to head with a Caravan. Plenty of ex-caravan owners flocked over to Honda with horror stories of failed transmissions at 60,000 miles. Only to have a failed transmission on their Honda at 20,000 miles! At least it's under warranty still at 20,000 miles but what about 40K, and then 60K? At least they could take the time to fix the sliding doors and distributer at the same time...The Neon sufferes form the same kind of bad rep. The biggest problem the early neons had was head gaskets. This wasn't actually all that common and a more common problem on a 96 Honda was the distributer. The 96 Neon's head gasket sounds so severe but in reality it usually amounts to a slight oil leak from the head, and it can be driven that way almost indefinately or fixed once and for all for about $300 (actually Dodge will do them for $100 if you ask). The Honda distributer on the other hand fails and the car is dead... Wife sitting on the side of the road in Compton and it's just getting dark. Oh well let's get that pesky thing fixed... A mere $450 and she's on her merry way!

i know lots of honda owners who have 100-300k on them (all built between 93 and 97) and the only problem was the plastic radiator's leaked. thats it. my mom's 2000 stratus has the AC go out at 21k, the tranny went out at 53k (good thing we dont live in compton!), and now at 61k THE TRANNY IS GOING OUT AGAIN!! talk about a hunk of shi1!

i firmly beleve that the SRT neon will have problems. since they are hand assembled, there is just that much more room for error (hell if the DC robots cant build a car, what makes you think the humans who work there can? LOL)

a neon is a chicks car IMO its either "cute" or ugly. depending on your taste. i choose the latter. ;-) and WTF is up with the 4 door? they could make it look a LITTLE better, and save some weight by doing a 2 door

anyway, enjoy your new car.

How about:
The Typhoon is just a Jimmy or
The Cobra R is just a Mustang

I'm all for every manufacturer coming out with some compact ricer, it keeps the prices down (somewhat). Besides, it puts another person on the road who thinks he or she is fast until they get spanked by a truck! :)

End Quote.

OMG, that's classic. The only other time I've
heard that was at the Dodge dealer! I can't
believe I'm defending Honda, but statements
like that are just plain NUTS and couldn't be
farther from the truth!

Someone please show me a 5.2 or 5.9 that
doesn't have a valve cover or rear main leak at
70,000 miles.

I love my Quad, but to say quality is on par with
Honda is just plain wrong. I think Kota hit the
nail on the head.

Have you ever heard someone say, that damn
Honda or Toyota, that thing's a piece, I'll never
buy another one?

BTW, I'm still looking for a buyer for the toilet, I
forgot to mention it was assembled by a
"special toilet team" so you can rest assured
the quality is great.

I`ll buy the toilet as long as I know the head gasket wont blow when I ram 8lbs of Poost (poo/boost) down it.

A Porsche is just a Volkswagen
A Shelby GT-500 is just a Mustang
A 68 Dart GTS is just a grampa car
