Ok i've had this truck for a year now. It has 70,000 miles on it, i've put 20,000 on since i bought it.

Couple things drive me crazy.

1. The stinkin thing will not ride smoothly when it's running under 2000 RPMs. It will bounce and cutout and throw all kinds of fits. Is this the torque converter screwing up? Or possibly the champion spark plugs?

2. The fuel mileage has dropped big time. When I first got it I was getting 20 miles a gallon, now im lucky to get 14. Around the time it changed I added a toolbox and a new set of Goodyear Tracker tires. Would the toolbox take away that much mileage?

Ok I have the 16 inch tires. How many psi's do u recommend to have in them? The tires are all wearing funny. Of the 4 different division of treads, the 2nd to last on the inside is starting to stick out more. I have rotated these tires every 6000 miles. Does anyone else's tires wear like that.

I run Mobil 1 5w30.

On the idle, I would try cleaning the throttle body, it might be dirty. Also, if you don't know the mileage on your plugs, you might want to change them too. However, you symptoms sound a bit like a bad TPS sensor. If cleaning the throttle body and changing the plugs don't help, I would try this. It's not real expensive.

The tires wearing funny might be due to bad or worn ball joints. This is a recall/extended warranty issue for your truck. Since you have less than 100k, they should still be covered if they are shot. Have a reputable Dodge dealer check it out.

Good luck!

Agree with above; you'll want to remove the TB to clean - carefully clean the IAC on the back side of the TB. I'd suspect the TPS too.

Tires - could also be your alignment. If your new tires are a heavier lug design than the old ones, that usually costs milage too.

The TPS is new. It doesnt idle funny at all. Just jumps and sputters when i try to keep it at 55 mph.

Walmart didn't have enough air in the tires, I checked them out, and found that they barely had 30 psi's in a tire that supposed to have 44.

Anyone have any experience with their dakota cutting out when they try to keep it at 55 mph?

I never heard of Dakota tires "supposed to have" 44 psi - where are you getting that info from ? I've run mine from 30 psi in the rear (for handling) to 50 psi all around (for a load), and they wore normally at both settings. That is not likely to be the cause of your wear.

Now that we have a better description of the erratic operation, it sounds more like the problem is the speed sensor in the rear end.

The max psi for the tires is 44 psi. I looked over all the tires, and they where wearing on the outsides, a sign of too little air.
