I'm doing a school project on street racing and the effects it has on people. I need to know some technology stuff, and if you guys could give me a couple links that would be appreciated.... it's mainly gonna be on the damn ricers, but thats what the teacher wants, i know you guys probably are gonna ask why im at a dakota site, but i know some of you have a honda that gets good gas mileage.

I don't own a ricer, but I have outrun every ricer that I ever raced, except one. The one thing I can tell you is that most poeple spend too much money on their cars, and all they're trying to do is make them run like a V-8. They need to give it up and buy a real sports car.

Trust me, I know they try to be like the V8's, when I bring my Dak out on Friday or Saturday night, I can't pay people to race me....they tell me to take out 4 plugs so its fair... and my baby is bone stock (for the time being). Hondas are like tampons, every |>ussy has one... I just need some info on stupid sh!t to please my teacher.... damn them all. Thanks for the info... and long live the 5.2.
(hint of sarcasm on the 4 plugs thing)

I have a 5.2 that runs 10.0 in the 1/8 and have still been beat by v6's and inline 4's....it just depends on what they have under the hood....turbo,super,or n20.

It's all physics vs. dollars.
One of the first times I took my truck to the track I kept staging up against this nicely prepared Volkswagen Golf with the v-6 he was turning 14.5's all night. You find fewer posers at the drags, once you sift through the guys who brought out their stock cavaliers and sunfires figuring they ought to run low 15's with a few pounds of body boltons and some undercar neon.
No shame in loosing to a car with a better HP:LB ratio though.

Ricers deserve a lot more credit than people give them. Most people who bitch about them haven't met REAL racers, they've met kids that have a civic with a flowmaster and call themselves racers. I've seen an integra outrun a cobra, and NUMEROUS z28's get spanked. So, what good does getting poor gas mileage and spending twice as much on a "real sports car" do you when you are still looking at the rear end of a car half your weight and half your engine?
Sorry to burst like that, I'm still getting a dakota in June like planned, I just got to shcool with a LOT of asians and see the cars every damn day, and a MAJORITY of the people who bitch about them really don't understand that there are a LOT of really really fast ones out there that do in fact know a lot about cars.
Someday I hope this goddamn debate is settled...what will it take, a del sol to beat a vette? I hope that happens soon..

I just ran a 10.04 in the 1/8th....lots of ricers in
the 11's, a guy behind me in a turbo'd tacoma
ran a 10.5, my brothers super charged
tacoma ran 9.3's consistent. almost every car
that was half decent was a stang or muscle
car, but hell, some of the civics were in the
high 9's.
give credit where credit is due. not everyone
wants to be like a v-8, most people mod what
they got, and enjoy it, have fun, there is always
gonna be someone faster, uglier, and spends
way more money on his car than you.

10.0 in the 1/8th with a 5.2?
Mine goes 9.5/75mph with 3.21 gear and a 2.35(no traction) 60' time. I only use 1st and 2nd gear!
Just keep on racing.

It's a plague.
There's a high school physics teacher on here who once talked about how he watches way too many kids now waste all their money and time on their cars instead of focusing on school, that was an interesting discussion -- might be able to find it in the search on this forum.

I've yet to see an "Asian" driving one of those rice racers. Mostly it's city kids, and they are mostly equipped with just stickers, spoilers, and fartpipes.
Most "Asians" I know prefer either German or American cars.
Ya think they know something the "ricer" crowd doesn't (such as showing a little "class")?

I'm in my country, im a redneck, usa is for rednecks. asians belong in rice fields or at the least in our country, but as sewer cleaners. Its a sad fact that asians have slanted eyes, which when you think about it, they cannot cope with our sunrays bouncing of the asphalt when driving and have to wear beanor sunglasses. now honestly ppl, do you want that sort of rectlessness on our highways.

Well anyways, at my school, I would estimate at least 75% of the asians drive them (I'm in college, they are all the age where they have decent jobs and thus cash to spend). The ones that wanna have "class" have any car but most of the youngs ones do. Also, a LOT of arabs have them as well. And a lot of hispanics, then at the bottom of the list it's white guys and black guys, but even still theres quite a few of them. I'm in houston, very diverse city, if you wanna see rice come to U of H main one day :D

Well ProOnThaSnow - maybe you can report that a thread about street racing has a profound effect on people's emotions. Especially when it wanders off topic and turns into a thread about racism.
Now back to street racing - street racing used to be about quick cars, performance and deserted stretches of back roads and hiways. Now it's about big wings, fart cans, neon, stickers and gathering as many kids along the side of the road for the show as you can get.
I liked it better in the old days.......
