Subject: Cylinder #7 Misfire

Message:
Cylinder #7 Misfire seems to be quite the common problem with Dakotas. I'm having the same problem. The engine was idling a bit rough so I replaces all plugs, wires, rotor and distributor cap. Then about a week or two later, my check engine light comes on. Take it to autozone to get it checked out. The famous cylinder #7 misfire. Now I'm thinking its a bad fuel injector. So I put in some fuel injector cleaner through the tank a couple of times. It removed the check engine light that came back on after they cleared it. But it still idles kind of rough. Could an intake or exhaust value be sticking. Any help would be appreciated.
Oh yeah, I have a '97 Dakota, 318 5.2L
Thanks.

i had this problem once with a jeep at the shop i work at... what happened was somehow dirt got into the fuel system and clogged up the fuel rail blocking fuel from getting into that certain fuel injector... pull the fuel up and remember to disconnect the ignition coil and have some trun the engine over by the key so you can watch to see if your injectors are firing... if ya got one not firing or barely spittin fuel then ya know ethier ya got a bad injector or a clogged rail causeing your misfire on #7

also try swapping coil pack with cylinder one and see if the new code is misfire on cylinder one. if it is, then just replace coil pack. this is a very easy check.
bad plug in seven? na too easy. try what scott said but if you don't have time, what i said can be done with a 10mm socket in about two minutes or less.

My truck does not have a coil pack, it has the good old rotor and distrubutor cap. Would I still be able to swap cylinder #1 with #7.
