 Subject: oil pump gear

Hello folks, well this is mister unfortunate.. I have had some serious issues with my dakota.. the issue started when I traded for it LOL. Anyway after a timing set, water pump, heater/ coolant flush I also found that the intake was leaking.. well got that almost taken care of (engine is much cleaner with all these new parts) Just have to put in the injector seals and a few other little things. But I found that they distributor was totally shot. Well that is now on order, should be here tuesday, but I also noticed that the oil pump gear was also "floating" in there but I can't remember if that is ok or not.. so if you are brave enough to read this book please let me know. Thanks in advance

Has anyone here rebuilt a 318? if so did the gear that drives the oil pump, should it be loose and move around?
