 Subject: p0300 multiple misfire

my brother put a set of cams in his 00 silverado 5.3 he said it was so awesome when he called me on the phone about it. he's 18 but was gigglin like a little kid about it. now however, his truck runs a 17 at the track and we finally pulled a p0300 code "multiple/random misfire", although the light is no longer on. how do i diagnose something like this. we're trying to fix it ourselves. he tuned it up at the same time. if it was a loose spark plug or wire i figure it would be a single misfire. thanks, jasonsdakota
