Hi guys- I need some advice: 91 318 w/TBI is blowing oil and leaking oil- been doing it for a while, but it's getting more pronounced lately- figure it's on it's last leg after 350K; love this truck- never let me down and easy to work on-has 8ft box which you can't find anymore; body has a little rust; question: is it worth putting a new block in? If so- does the cost justify a crate motor or a rebuild- or should I just trade it in? (and I don't have the experience to rebuild it myself)- thanks for any input

well, the engine and trans are the biggest worry in high milage engines. But after so many miles other stuff will start to go too. Radiator, rear end, u-joints to name a few. What's your truck worth right now? Putting a bit of money in ( engine and trans alone probably $3,000 or more ) is fine if you're gonna keep it for awhile. That's still a lot less than a new truck. Why not put a 360 in if you're gonna go that route. Not much more than a 318.

I think your best bet is used . Do some serious looking and I bet you can come up with a good 318/360 at a reasonable price that would more match the value of your truck.

I was able to find a used 91 318 with 90,000 miles for $600. I got it off of the National Parts Finder hotline at 1-800-966-8211. It took a week for it to ship. I am satisfied with the service they provided.

C$2200 to rebuild it, but I will keep my eyes open for a good used one.
