I am getting ready to change the front brakes on my 2000 quad cab and wanted to know what the general thought was on slotted or cross-drilled rotors, also what type of pads are good. Any help is great. I am also having a hell of a time removing the rear drums.

First, think about how the brakes work. Pad surface area and disc surface area come together and create friction. Friction converts rotational energy to heat energy - remember the Law of Conservation of Energy. Pretty simple.

To make things work better, what can you do? Again, pretty simple, increase the pad:rotor contact area. Drilling and slotting does just the opposite - it decreases contact area.

On my street/track car, I use solid rotors and Hawk +4 pads. Very effective, even with repeated abuse lap after lap. If I start thinking I need cooler brakes, I'll make some cooling ducts to direct more air to the center of the discs.

I'm getting ready to do a brake job on my '01 QC. I'll probably go down to Autozone and get solid heavy duty rotors, and Performance Friction carbon fiber pads. I've used them before with excellent results.

Ceramic pads are also very good - quiet, effective, and low dust. But some manufactureres specifically state they are not to be used for towing.

alot of peopel run the powerslot rotors and hawk pads. a great combo. what I will be using on all 4 sides of my 03. as far as drilled people talk about cracking and rocks and other stuff getting caught in the holes.

for your rear drums. take a hammer and beat the pure livin tar out of them. you prob have a lip of rust and build up in there. if still wont come off. use a screwdriver and adjust the star wheel in the back to move the pads inward and should pop right off. I know may sound stupid but you dont have the parking brake set do ya? lol

This should also remove the vibration I feel when I apply the brakes?
