Been away from the site for a long time.

Had alot going on and got away from the whole truck modding thing.

Well the truck in my profile is about to be replaced

Found a 04 4.7L 5-speed regular cab with 20K miles that I'm planing on purchasing next week.

This will be Dakota #4 and probably my last since I don't like the 05 redesign
#1 '95 2.5L RC Red 5-speed
#2 '00 3.9L CC Intense Blue auto
#3 '00 3.9L RC Flame Red 5-speed (current)

It looks like a great truck you are getting yourself into. It's about time you got yourself a V8! :-)

Brand loyalty? I have three currently.

Brand Loyalty?

88 Dodge Aries(bought new, gave to brother in '99)
95 Dodge Neon (sold in 2003 to buy Dakota)
2001 Dodge Dakota(still have, but for how long?)

When you were a poor military type, you had to start somewhere. Dad worked for Chrysler Corp, so the brand loyalty was kind of "beat" into me, as well as buying American (well as much as you can). Sure, they all weren't Dakotas, but Dodge nonetheless.

If gas prices don't improve (which is highly unlikely) the Dakota may have to be sold and I'll buy another Neon. Damn I hate to do it, but I'd save about $1400 a year in gas, and with one kid in college this fall, I need the extra $$$.

Is your Dakota paid for? Don't forget to factor in the loan payment (on a replacement vehicle) into your total monthly operating cost.

My buddy decided to save some money on gas costs and bought a Chevy HHR so he could leave his 15MPG Dakota R/T at home most workdays and get 25MPG.

Sounds reasonable, doesn't it? Well, considering how his R/T *and* Suburban have no loan payment they are actually cheaper to operate each month than his new HHR. He kinda wishes he hadn't gone off and done that...

Just make sure you'll actually save money if you get a Neon. That's all.

Yeah modain, figured all that in.

Owe about $7500 on the truck (bought it in '03; 5 year loan). Should get about $9k for it being it is 95 percent highway miles and in excellent shape. Will get a used Neon for about $8k, take out a three year loan and monthly payments will be less as well. I put about 20K miles per year on a vehiCLe, and I only figured gas at $2.25 per gal for the $1000 savings. According to the experts, gas this summer will be in excess of $2.50 per gallon. So yeah, the math has been done. I work with numbers all day so I better be right with them..LOL!

Obie, you have done your homework. If you go that route I hope it works according to your plans. It would be a bummer to start calling you ObieWanNeon, though. That handle just loses some of its impact. :-)

I have 24 payments (of $509) left and then my 2002 is all mine. A bit more for the Durango. Provided they are still running (I don't see why not) I'll be sitting much better myself regarding the checking account.

I agree modain...ObieWonNeon kind of loses the whole meaning of it. But, if I don't have a Dak anymore, there wouldn't be any point to me staying on the board unless I'd just wanna add my two cents every now and then. The off topic gets hilarious most times.

I just have to wait until 31 Mar before I do anything. That is when i send the paperwork to the Extended Warranty Company and recoup $1670 from them. Since I didn't use any part of the warranty, I get my money back. As a matter of fact, I have everything signed and sealed in the envelope. I'm just waiting until the 1st of April to send it Certified..LOL!

I would use that for a down payment on a Neon, but I need it for college for the daughter. Oh well, the hardships of having kids; thank god the good times outweigh the bad.

A Dakota was the only truck I ever wanted. I remember the commercials when I was a kid and first got interested in driving. I wanted the only truck in it's class with an optional V8.

My first truck was a ranger though. Why? Because there were no dakota's I could afford. I was a poor high school and soon to be college kid. The only thing I didn't pay for was insurance. Working minimum wage in HS I was able to save up the 2k to buy the ranger.

My wife was a huge ford fan, now she has a grand am (but won't drive a chevy, go figure). She's mentioned several times that when she gets her grand am paid for, I can trade it in on a ram for myself and she'll start driving the 02 QC 4x4 4.7L Dak we just bought in Jan.

1 down, too many more to go!
